Deeper Than The Sea, produced by Red Broad, features guest vocals and collaborations from Bajka (Bonobo, Beanfield, Sola Rosa), Soul Sista Shakti (Monodeluxe, Aandra, Audio Jazz) and Margo Rey who also featured on the first release. DEEPER THAN THE SEA follows on from where HAPPY HOUR IN THE GENE POOL left off, continuing the rich pallet of downtempo beats, chilled out grooves and sultry vocals. The album contains twelve original tracks, four vocal and eight instrumental. The overall vibe is a luxurious mix of chilled out downtempo ranging from light vocal to deeper dubs, glitch and experimental electronica musings. Electric pianos abound and the use of flugal horn and muted trumpet adds an element of cool jazz into the mix, creating a truly eclectic listening experience. A lounge lizards idea of heaven on earth, DEEPER THAN THE SEA is a perfect fit for anyone looking to relax, chill out, and kick back.

Deeper Than The Sea (featuring Bajka)

Low Volume is a collaboration between two talented Indian born producers Pawas and Ambrish. The EP features three original tracks including remixes by Nhar and Mastra.

Look behind is a calm and melodic track that develops a wonderful drive with the help of the varied bassline, the acid-infused parts used coming across very playful.
Nhar's remix masterfully takes over the melodic elements of the original but catapults the track back into the eighties with the skillfully reinterpreted synth parts, the concise clap and the vocals.

The minimal house number Apache Gold impresses with its reduction paired with groovy-dubby bassline and a cleverly staged guitar hook.

Topsides, nevertheless more subtle, strings together sophisticated synth parts in a varied way and garnishes them with pads and funky-tinged synth elements.
Mastra's remix focuses more on the calm synth parts, which he uses more concisely and combines with additional rhythm elements.

In October 2018 DJ Rocca and Almunia member Leo Ceccanti joined forces to deliver “Rhythm Collision”, a three-track EP of jangling, sun-kissed grooves, psychedelic dub disco and Afro-Cosmic flavours on Really Swing. 18 months on, one of that set’s standout cuts has been given a new lease of life courtesy of fellow Italian producer Alessandro Pasini AKA Deep 88.

Since making his debut a decade ago, Pasini has earned a reputation as one of house music’s understated heroes – an artist whose hardware driven, retro-futurist take on deep house tends towards the timeless, melodic and atmospheric. With a deep love of turn-of-the-90s dream house, Larry Heard productions and sun-baked chords, his dancefloor-focused productions have often been called Balearic.

It’s perhaps fitting then that his reworks of Rocca and Cecanti’s “Ever Changing Bubbles” are as Balearic as they come. His “Balearic Mix” sets the tone, with Pasini layering trippy, dubbed-out and ear-catching elements – Ceccanti’s eyes-closed electric guitar solos, jangling acoustic guitar chords, warm dub disco bass, echoing spoken word samples, fluttering flute solos, drowsy organ motifs and the pair’s delay-heavy vocals – atop a crunchy, head-nodding, live style beat. While it deviates from the duo’s original version, it inhabits a similar sonic space – albeit in a more dancefloor-friendly way.

Pasini excels himself on the accompanying “Balearic Dub”, stripping the cut back to its raw essentials – drums, metronomic bass –while toughening up the percussion and adding delay-laden instrumental snippets. It’s warm, woozy and otherworldly, with echoing voices, tactile musical motifs and restless delay trails combining to create a suitably hazy and intoxicating mood. By the time the touchy-feely flute and acoustic guitars begin to dance across the sound space, you’ll be lost in the groove and too happy to notice.

Resurrected after a three year absence, 'Gown Control VI: Loose Threads' is a sequel of sorts to the earlier piano focused volume. As the world and its wife tries to board the last plane out of 2020, Eclectics rolls up with a charter flight big enough to ferry all-comers to Shangri-La. The Oh! EP, from Ibiza-based Italian producer Luca Averna and legendary British veteran Chris Coco, is 35 minutes of delightful, deep-dive distraction from a world gone mad.

This isn’t simply a collection of tunes sitting cheek-by-jowl with their remixes, this is a soaring suite – a movement in five parts put together with care, confidence and consummate craft.

First up on the in-flight entertainment is “There Is No Planet B”. Despite the distress-signal sentiment of the title, it’s an audio hug of breathy synths, languorous lead lines and slow, whirling propeller percussion. A mid-paced reminder that we really are all in this together, the melodic flow coalesces midway through, giving directions to the dance.

The Veteran Delinquents (Joe’s Bakery and Passport to Paradise stalwart Craig Christon along with producer Tim Hutton) pick up the baton and increase the momentum like veteran DJs reading the room. Their remix follows on seamlessly from the original, bigging up the boogie with handclaps, piano and a beat that channels electro and new wave New York.

Next up is Jazxing (The Very Polish Cut-Outs/ Transatlantyk), who find another gear and chug straight ahead – full steam in widescreen. Increasing the bandwidth even further they throw in guitar licks and percussive punctuation, forcing the familiar melody into bold new territory.

And suddenly, there you are, in the middle of a four-to-the-floor groove for discerning dancers after a journey so smooth you couldn’t even feel the corners.

As the bass peters out, title track “Oh!” blossoms into view, building slowly, layers lapping over each other, gentle yet steady, fragile but with a firm foothold. The pace has quickened, but the pin-perfect pacing means you don’t realise until you’re halfway in and committed to the ride. Oh! indeed…

Then, the final act. Once again, Eclectics frequent flier James Bright tales the controls and banks away beautifully from the original, leading you into territory littered with broken beats, rippling synths and an afro-infused groove. This is all played out against a gentle backdrop, a watercolour wash of sound that smooths the flightpath, tempers the turbulence and joins the dots between guitar flourishes and snare snaps.   You have reached your destination. Enjoy.
