Eclectics release 'Let It Pass' by Statues

Essex-based trio Statues return to Eclectics with another four-track EP. There’s no change to the MO – two exceptional OGs rock up to the party, each with a +1 in the form of a killer remix.

Rotunda is all swagger and shoulders. A mid-paced beast that swaps sharp edges for a slow roll, that rocks… but gently. The synthetic bass dives deep, providing balance and ballast while the upper register takes advantage of this free reign. Zither glissandos ebb and flow while guitar lines drift in and out, marshalled into time by a neck-snapping shuffle with a sense of slow, unhurried purpose.

Showing a similar, singular focus, is Gold Suite, AKA Bali’s Joey Fitzgerald. Opening the original up wide enough to drop in a piano, acoustic guitar and lead line licks, he builds a remix that is in equal parts balearic groover and 3am mover. The result is a certified banger that will see arms raised quicker than any armed bank heist.

Lessons, by contrast, sees Statues in repose. A simple cymbal pattern leads the way as organ, strings and bass join in, laying the ground for the mournful vocal refrain “The past is a lesson”. What follows is a blissful slice of horizontal balearica pitched perfectly for these times. With the world opening its arms to us once again, this is the soundtrack for us all to sway into its embrace.

Coyote take the remix reins, their deep dub adding lift to the kick and bounce to the bass. They pare back and stretch out, filling the space with found fragments and soft sonic furnishings. The result is a very different destination, but one that still wraps itself around you like a welcome hug from an old friend. Expansive synths and tightly echoed effects ride the wave of a way-out sound without losing sight of the original.

It’s a lesson to us all.

From the frozen and windswept northlands of Minnesota, to the brutal summer heat of central Texas, Zack Highwire (aka Triptíque Musique), drew inspiration for music by connecting the spirit of the universe to man and machine for just shy of two decades. His infectious rhythms, pulsating bass, and psychedelic cosmic vibes take the listener on a mind-altering journey through the mind, body, and soul. Zack passed away on October 22, 2020, but he left us with tracks like Marrakesh to celebrate his life. May he rest in peace riding the universe's vibrations he so often connected to.

On the B side Italian duo Mushrooms Project offer up an acoustic into electronic psychedelic acid masterpiece featuring guitar from Leo Almunia and bass player Ivan King.

All proceeds will go to the Zack Krzmarzick Scholarship Fund used to establish music scholarships for high school students entering college from his hometown of New Ulm, Minnesota.

Residentes Balearicos bring us another golden trip with their ambient mix of Cachonda, silencing the drums and cymbals for a lazy excursion down the magic river. Sun Scope, wow what a beautiful piece of music, I'm getting goose bumps listening right now. Deep Melodica man, it flows and grows without getting all complex. This being released right at the tail of 2017 is a game changer in my favorite track of the year. What comes out of Timm Sures and Richard Hampson Camp only can only be described as remarkable. These guys completely work for the love of music. "And to possibly pay for a trip to the White Isle once a year". as Timm put it to me once. Is It Balearic....? ain't just Balearic they're almost punk in their attitude, in the sense there's no big promotional campaign beforehand. The records they put out sell themselves.  Well now here is the link to have a listen to the 5th track on the A side of Sun Scope the ep, Sun Scope.

Sun Scope is a soundtrack to a dreamlike journey through nature. The A side represents morning until dusk. The B side, midnight until dawn. Maricopa drops a beautifully evocative album of mellow electronica on IIB.

Funky vibes of the 1970s and 1980s are generously mixed with techno and peppered with unconventional live instruments, vocals, and flirting with rock and roll. Throw in ambitions of new genre creators, and you get a fantastic creature, a techno-funky-rock unicorn. The _Wise And Weird_ EP features four of the duo’s original versions ranging from groovy indie dance to funky techno to acid house. Mikey Sibson of London’s Elevator East party and balearic music blog 45turns comes in hard with a slow emotional rework of an 80s synthpop gem from Japan, carefully reconstructed for late-night magic on the dancefloor.

Ali, runs the Warm booking agency day to day working with acts such as Horse Meat Disco, Gerd Janson, Henrik Schwarz, Hot Chip, Jungle and many more. Alongside this, he also runs events by the seaside in Bournemouth and the occasional event across the UK and Europe from time to time. 

He has previously held down Warm residencies at clubs such as Plastic People, The End and Bussey Building over the years. 2020 will see the launch of RE:WARM a reissue label which will see 7"s, 12"'s, LP's and compilations so keep those eyes peeled along with a series of DJ dates throughout the year accompanied by his Warm seaside partner in crime and Eclectics side kick, Micky Browne. 

The mix was put together as the sun was setting over the Purbecks and the accompanying artwork was the view that accompanied the selection/mix.

Born and raised in South London, Dr. Rob now resides / hides in the mountains of Japan. For over a decade, together with Max Essa, and Ken Hidaka, he’s been hosting the Lone Star parties held at Bar Bonobo, in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. The three friends recently complied the “chart topping” Oto No Wa album for Music For Dreams - the Danish label for whom Rob also produces a weekly radio show. Rob has another long-running program, The Remedy, broadcast every Thursday and Saturday evening on his local station, FM Karuizawa. Dr. Rob contributes to Electronic Sound Magazine and Faith Fanzine, and writes for, and runs, the Ban Ban Ton Ton blog.
