In my music I have recently become interested in resonance and overtones. The electronics in Dichroic Light aim to magnify these often overlooked sounds within the cello.

Breaking point was diffused by Louise Rossiter on 18th May at sound lab in the Recital Room of Glasgow City Halls.

"Breaking Point is an acousmatic work exploring the connection between
human and object and how when under adverse strain, this connection can
disintegrate.
The piece is structured into several small sections. The main sound object for
the entire 15 minute work is a balloon.
My intention throughout the piece was to create a sound world more complex
and intricate than might be expected from the source sound

The water ripples slowly, gently. You notice the light catch the tiny waves, the two combining in a rapid dance. These small movements draw your attention as each flash of light or wave of water shimmers creating a new and unique image forever changing, but at the same time, always the same.

I'd like to thank Eve Kennedy for her time, effort and advice through the composition of this piece. 

Shimmering was first performed by Jonathan Morton in the Scottish Ensemble concert during the 2012 plug festival at the RCS.

Edit-Point is Scotland’s only electroacoustic ensemble. It was founded in 2010 and is run by composers Timothy Cooper, Matthew Whiteside and Nicholas Virgo. The group’s objectives are to present music that combines instruments and electronics and to provide a platform for artists to present technologically difficult to realise compositions.
