In the midst of the increasingly popular house music hurricane comes a fresh two track EP from one of the movement’s most promising talents, Richy Ahmed. Taking cues from hip-hop, techno, funk and disco, ‘The Drums’ EP arrives on the 2nd of December via Hot Creations.

Just stretching his limbs in terms of his discography, in less than two years the London-based producer has gathered some series attention. From 2011’s slinky, deep house mover 'Suck It' (Hot Creations) to his 80's chicago manipulation remix of Infinity Ink's 'Infinity', there’s always an enviable glisten about his work. His wizardry behind the decks lead to him being named resident DJ at DC10's Paradise this summer with the season coming to an end in late September.

'The Drums' got its maiden plays during Richy's Boiler Room Set and the takeovers of Paradise Ibiza. The EP steps out of the blocks with definite verve. Title track, 'The Drums', a hip-house barnstormer of a track it massages a buttery-smooth rolling bassline into a four-to-the-floor backdrop with contagious results. Legend, Kevin Knapp, jumps on vocal duty dropping in and out with praise to 'the drums'. On the flip side, '101 Jam' is a rolling analogue slice of deep house brilliance. Here, Richy pitches skittering hi-hats and hyperactive synth movements atop a robust bassline foundation. It proves homage to the brand of house celebrated right from the genre’s genesis.

Paul Thomas Presents UV Radio 270

The third release for Stroboscopic Artefacts in 2014, SA22 is the new cut from Italian producer Chevel. 'One Month Off' is an EP built around the abstract themes of construction, starting with demolition and ending on perspective.
Opening track 'One Month Off' combines a warm thump with skittering percussion. Ragged cymbals build pressure. As the track continues to strut, through insistence as much as confidence, it gives out. 'The Wall', next up, is perhaps misleadingly a more unsettled affair. There is little linear impetus, a panoply of syncopated beats and foreign noises from the undergrowth. This is a wall of multitudinous surface, a front concealing the unsettled and unsure within.
'Cave Dwellings' is a more organic construct, building from the traditional basics of a kick drum and hi hat. Like the opening number this is a confident piece, but the Caves resonate with greater darkness and menace. The kick squelches at the bottom, the snare drips; glistening echoes bound through the chamber. 'Marker Shop' is fourth up, uniting disparate urges and glorious moods. The beat is uncomfortable, and repeatedly gives way.
The record closes on 'Viewpoint', a piece of warmer perspective. It is not, however, a calm scene: in many ways this is a view of something more unsettled than what has come before. It is both jungular and industrial, an uncompromising marriage of nature and noise.
Chevel lands, then, on SA, with a discussion of construction and constructs. Out on March 31st.

San Francisco's Safeword (Marc Smith and Clint Stewart) have been on a tear since forming last year in San Francisco. Right off the bat they've hit a stride with releases on fine labels such as Dessous, Paso Music and are currently remixing for the mighty Mobilee. This, their debut EP on Bad Animal titled "West Portal," weaves down more soulful yet dark avenues. Deep vibes, smooth synths and silky vocals are perfectly accompanied by heavy, churning rhythms and reflections of acid house.

The legendary Smash TV lend their expertise to round off the EP with an acid house monster of a party jam. While still retaining the dusty soul of the original material, the duo has brought their Midas touch to Bad Animal with this golden rework. Massive stuff!

Rob Acid is back with another selection of analog filth, on his excellent Dirtcuts label. Series B ventures once more in to the darker side, with a heavy use of his hallmark good old 303, and a stack more to boot. Robert Babicz alter ego, is once again sounding like a frenzied slab of franticness, thats been made in a dungeon. But thats why we like it so much. Here we find a veritable feast of mayhem, with 8 new tracks for you to listen to, dance to, play and cause havoc with.
