Lil Lunchtime Sesh 12-1-22

While Denver might be the bass capital of North America, the house scene has also been flourishing lately, with a number of artists and collectives guiding the way. One of the producers in the Mile High City who is causing a stir is Josh Fedz, who moved there in 2017 and hasn't looked back since. Not only has he held a residency at Denver's 128 Productions, but he's also played in support of artists like John Summit and Duke Dumont while releasing tunes on labels such as Hood Politics and Groovy Bone.

More recently, Josh Fedz looked to two other talented artists, Zaytek and owie, to collaborate on a dancefloor heater dubbed "Gonna Be." This tech house gem on Sacha Robotti's imprint, Slothacid, offers up a catchy vocal that pairs perfectly with its melodic elements and driving bassline, making it infectious at its core. Josh Fedz offered up some insight behind the track as well, saying that it was "inspired by a true story of being with a significant other who is on the fence on whether or not they are ready to make it official."

To celebrate its release and help kick off the chilly winter months, Josh Fedz spun up the first mix for our Winter Waveforms series this year. This near-hour-and-a-half-long house-fueled ride showcases his innate curation abilities behind the decks as he layers in tracks from artists including Piero Pirupa, Truth X Lies, Kaysin, Westend, Volac, and more. There are also a number of IDs littered throughout the mix that come from DEEPFAKE, Max Styler, and two from Josh Fedz that see him team up with Gio Lucca and Haylee Wood.

The house and techno scene is booming, and there's a new wave of artists, especially women, who are helping shape the future as they carve out space for themselves. One of those talented DJs is LUMI, who originally hails from Helsinki but has since created a home for herself in Seattle. She took her first steps in the music realm with choir and piano but developed a passion for the sound of techno and hasn't looked back since.

The past few years have seen LUMI hone her skills behind the decks as she's continued her sonic evolution, and she's impressed with each passing set. Not only has she become a fixture at nightclubs in Seattle that include Kremwerk and Ora to open for the likes of Pan-Pot, Sam WOLFE, and Teenage Mutants, but she's also taken the stage in San Diego and Santa Barbara along the way.

"In my life, it’s the women that have supported me or said my name in rooms full of opportunity; they have a special place in my heart. Navigating this industry, in all of its complexity, it is incredible to have women that have your back, and you also have theirs. In honor of International Women's Day, LUMI spun up a mix that's filled with some fantastic techno cuts that will surely get your body moving to the beat. She also shared some insight on who inspires her the most. "The women that I look up to in dance music, and techno in particular, are the ones that make their own rules, are true masters of their craft, and aren’t afraid to push the boundaries in both their productions and their DJ sets," LUMI said. "Artists like Nicole Moudaber, Nina Kraviz, Miss Kittin, and VTSS. I think she’s such a baddie!"
