This week we are featuring Parisian DJ and Producer Douran who is celebrating the release of his new EP Avalanche. His music is big, cinematic, and ethereal without a hint of cheese. His more dancey stuff harks back to the days of true progressive, when Sasha and Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and other UK jocks held court. So it's only fitting that his AM mix leans into those epic sounds, perfect for taking with you on a long scenic drive or a trip to the outer atmosphere. For Ukrainian DJ Liona Stone, 2015 was the pivotal year that she committed herself fully to life as an artist in the electronic music scene. Before that, she was hosting a popular music television show, one that allowed her to rub elbows with the biggest names in the business. Leaning on the relationships she'd established during the television show, she was able to quickly land some important DJ gigs and from there, her talent took over and her career blossomed. 

In her first half-decade as a DJ, she had a broad range of showcases - from spinning soundscapes at the beach clubs in Bali to the energized nightclubs in Dubai. But when the pandemic shut down all the venues, she took to platforms like Twitch like so many others. However, where the majority of DJs performed 1-3 sets a week for a few hours, Liona Stone embraced extended sets and could often be found streaming 6+ hours a day 5-6 days a week. She immediately saw the value of livestreaming as a career enhancement rather than a sanity saver and she embraced isolation as a way to actually broaden her reach. 

Now, as clubs are hosting live events again, she's taking a different tack from most and has no intention of cutting back on the livestreams - effectively making a new home in the digital realm. She's grown a dedicated following online and connects with her fans on a deeper level while showing sides of herself that could never be seen on a stage. For instance, Liona has shared her fitness commitment while streaming by doing fitness-focused techno sets in which she works out on a stair machine while DJing flawlessly.

While no one really knows what's next these days, Liona Stone is continuing to grow her livestreaming presence for the foreseeable future. She's constantly exploring new ways to engage her audience and seeking ways to build a strong community. In an ideal world, her community would have a bond that goes beyond her sets, and this is something she believes can be done better through livestreaming than at live shows. She may be onto something here, The Pinecone Club has become an organic offshoot of Gabriel & Dresden's Club Quarantine and perhaps The Lion's Club will be born out of Liona Stone's committed fan base.

The sound of house music has permeated speakers around the world for decades, but that isn't where Tallinn-based duo WATEVA began their story. Both members, Hugo Martin Maasikas and Kris Evan Säde, come from different spaces in the realm of music with Hugo initially finding success under the alias CARTOON and Kris signing his first record deal at the age of 13. But when they became tired of the drum and bass sound that dominated the sonic spectrum in their home country, they looked to make waves together in the realm of house music.

Since first joining forces, WATEVA has gone on to deliver a number of singles ranging from 2018's "My Love 2 U" and "I'm Talkin About" to 2020's "Cold Fumes (In Mid-June)" and "Rear View Mirror." But the best was yet to come from the duo as they geared up to release their debut album, and this year marked the arrival of their biggest body of work to date. Released back in August, Disposable Society landed for the world to consume and featured 13 tracks that were perfect for the final month of summer.

The album is littered with darker electronic soundscapes and brooding vocals that play into the thematic elements of a dim future due to the way society is currently heading. Tracks like the previously released "Cold Fumes (In Mid-June)" are welcome additions to the album, but other tracks including "Someone Better" with Emily J, "Burn Out" with Asena, and "Good Intentions" are also stunning in their own rights. You'll find yourself dancing away yet lost in your thoughts simultaneously, which is a great indicator of the lasting power that this album has.

To celebrate the release and further showcase their abilities in creating dynamic soundscapes, WATEVA swung by to spin up a mix and help show us all what the dance music scene in Estonia is all about. Speaking about their local scene they said, "Estonia is super keen on drum and bass, and that is actually why we started making music. The underground scene has crossed over to the mainstream a lot, and the same is happening with deeper house stuff right now." And quite frankly, we can't wait to see what is yet to come from WATEVA and other Estonian artists in the future.

Tonight is The Full Harvest Moon. It is called the Harvest Moon because at the end of September crops that were seeded in Spring are now ready to be harvested. 

This is truly a time of transformation, and the Earth is going through a major shift as it heads into Autumn. We are also each going through a major changes in our lives as the Earth's energy projects onto us. We can utilize these moments of transformation - IN THE DANCE & THE MUSIC - to become what we feel we need to be in order to adapt and find comfort in the upheaval. Pisces will make us feel a little braver and stronger, we may find that we have the courage to do things we were afraid to do in the past. Let us not be limited by our five senses perceptions. Let us simply live, and BE EMBODIED from a place of possibility and alchemy.

Frequency Underground resident, Wilcot, out of Greenville, SC revisits us for the 44th episode of the series in what is perhaps the dubbiest journey yet! The set is incredibly vibey, with an array of emotions swelling from dynamic synths, soft pads, and an underlying groovy house feel.
