Burgeoning house talent Secondcity returns to Saved with the highly impressive Feel It EP. The Chicago born producer delivers a wide-ranging EP that flows between deep house, heady, relentless techno and more laidback house struts across its four tracks. Displaying both his innate connection to the dancefloor and a versatile dexterity, Secondcity offers another reminder of why he is such an in-demand producer.

The EP sets off in full flight with the powerful, dubby “Feel It.” A fully loaded bottom end pulsates and drives with real purpose as a subtle but addictive groove provides the backbone. Resisting the temptation to explode into wild frenzy, the track chuggs away with a controlled but bristling energy. “Terrace Tech” is more intense, locking into a heady, druggy, heads-down groove that remains unflinching till the last. It has a raw and organic feel but manages to include a sense of funk into its highly hypnotic personality.

“The Lines” brings the pace down somewhat, settling into an offbeat but funky house strut. It’s rolling bassline and inventive hook give the track its distinctive flavor, just as the punchy beats and FX inject the momentum. On “Avec” the collaboration between Secondcity and Kydus, the pair combine a succinct groove with a real sense of swing. The bassline sways beneath some funkified percussion that gives the track an almost laidback but party-centred attitude.

Its a been a while, but Rejected boss Edwin Oosterwal finally returns, alongside Woodie S, with a brand new single, Missing, and a nagging piano riff that just won't let go. 

Having had the idea for a track in his mind for some time, but more than aware of his limited experience at the piano, Edwin was on the hunt for a player. Step forward Woodie S. "Wout had already blown us away with his incredible playing on the Pitto single 'Shadows', and was the perfect choice to help me with the track" says Edwin. 

Joining forces the Dutchmen created a version that was put through the Rejected test run of both Edwin and fellow label boss Joris Voorn. The wonderfully hypnotic and annoyingly catchy piano melody of Woodie S, dances likes a sprite over the bouncing tech beats of Edwin, on an original track that has ended up far removed from the original blueprint of the record. 

Which leads us to the remix. "Whilst I love the original and have seen how well it works on the floor, I also wanted to try and get closer to my very first ideas for the record" says Edwin. 

Their remix gives the record of a beautifully laid-back beach-house feel. The keys are tended with an added jazz and the chords are smooth as silk. Sunshine vibes all round.

This is their first addition to the label since the hugely successful ‘In Reverse’ EP and it comes as a package that fans both old and new will relish: a jubilant record melding the most groove-laden strands of Disco, Funk, Soul and House. Oh yeah...and to top it all off, the guys have collared one of the greats for a remix in the one and only Matthew Herbert.

Herbert’s remix adds a certain poppy flair to the original as it laces Zilla’s sassy croon with mangled synth blobs and hypnotic, circling samples, rounding off a serious coup for Heist Recordings and a fine addition to the catalogue.

It's easy to look outside, not so easy to look within...
Breath deep, open your mind's eye and get ready to soar the astral plane with CON010: Conscious, coming at you from the Netherland's Den Haas.

Opening things with a deep, but irresistibly tight rhythm, the EP's titular track sets a delightful tone that pervades the entire release. Next up is certainly Something, a track that beckons listeners with dreamy pads embracing a fluttering bass - the overall effect being the perfect track for warming things up or closing things out at sunrise. The final original offering, Garden, is something from Eden itself... A pumping kick and crunchy hat combo drive over a bouncing bass that falls into a pit of transcendental synths and woody tribal pops.

Romanian star Olivian Nour jumps on the EP for a decidedly digitised remix of Conscious with a low-down club groove certain to take dance-floors to the other dimension.

Forward thinking electronic exponents Arkitekt announce their first compilation release after a selection of parties in London, Leeds and Birmingham promoted their sound. Focusing on the more forward thinking strains of house and techno, their musical mandate has been to gleefully plunder the underground elements of the modern dance clime, with stripped back grooves riding against warm melodies and textures.

The first man stepping up the Arkitekt palette is Robert Dietz. The German DJ cut his teeth on the Frankfurt arena of Deutsch dance, coming from no-where in 2009 to ensnare one of Beatportal’s Artists to Watch. Since then his rise has been apocalyptic and relentless, recording for stellar imprints such as Cecille, Cadenza, Deep Vibes, Running Back and Saved Records. He’s crafted a trademark sound, built on pure house and infused it with the sensibilities of contemporary club culture.

It’s a pedigree which has made him one of the most versatile and in-demand DJs on the planet. He delivers achingly next level voyages in the underground basements of Shoreditch, Berlin and Eastern Europe but also has the ability to seduce mainstream arenas like Awakenings, Electric Zoo, Exit Festival, Ushuaia and Pacha with his underground aesthetic. And it is that intoxicating template that is evident all over this double disc spanning mix.

Disc 1 focuses on the more underground and techier side of Robert’s tastes, aptly titled ‘Club Hours’. It fizzes along with a sea of clicks and whirs as it ripples from the gentle menace of the 2012 update Butane’s ‘A Rave Mistake’ into the shuffling tones of Trickski’s brilliantly monikered ‘Brazzavillage Dance Commando’.

Elsewhere tracks from killer producers such as Davide Squillace, Sascha Dive and Ricardo Villalobos take the mix slowly into deeper realms of energy, before it ends on a flourish with the mechanical Detroit edge of Ben Nevile’s ‘Awshashen’.

Disc 2 is a more expansive affair with the deeper side of the Dietz spectrum in full effect as he takes the listener ‘After-hours’. The synth stabs and tribal percussion of ZPH ‘Popshit‘ lay the battle lines down emphatically for where it’s heading, delivering a mix to work just as well on the headphones as it does on the dancefloor.

There’s gorgeous deep house of an atmospheric nature from Boo Williams with ‘Peaking Point’, the melancholy grooves of Dale Howard’s ‘Bubbz’ and the Underground Resistance meets basic Channel vibes of Leonel Castillo’s ‘1974’. The sublime wonder of Lil Tony’s ‘Employee Only’, a lustrous concoction of soaring melodies and robotic clicks, brings the collection to a glorious end.

Following the release of the compilation, Robert will be back on the road, taking in performances at some of the world’s premier clubs. Heading first to Asia, Robert will be touching down in Singapore for a show at Zouk before then making his way onto Tokyo to play Ageha. Next up he will jetting over to the Americas with gigs in Santiago de Chile, Caracas and then New York for Halloween. Robert will also be making appearances in Moscow and London so don’t miss your chance to experience this ever evolving artist in the flesh.

Edwin Oosterwal is driven by timeless soul-laced house and techno. A DJ with over 25 years of stripes, including residencies at iconic Amsterdam clubs Trouw and Studio 80, past performances at key festivals such as Awakenings and Mysteryland and world class clubs from fabric to Berghain | Panorama Bar, his ability to fuse between house and techno hits with an insatiable jacking energy. He has a knack of weaving stark stripped-back troughs and dizzying physical peaks; a dark art that’s reflected in everything else he does.

As a label co-boss behind Rejected and Spectrum (imprints he founded with Joris Voorn), the output is characterised by direct dancefloor tracks laced with longevity. Releases come courtesy of an array of respected acts ranging from Josh Butler to Deetron via Ian Pooley, Steve Bug and of course Edwin himself.

As a producer, Edwin’s taken his time to truly hone his craft and steadily build a sonic signature that resonates through house, techno and all the artful shades between and has been supported by the likes of Loco Dice, Eats Everything and Kölsch. Whether it’s his collaborations with Dennis Quin or his solo work, an ageless aesthetic is coded deep into everything he does from the all-out Chicago-style tone hypnosis of ‘Bleep’ to the iced-synth mysticism of ‘Vamp’ via the stately jacks of ‘Elasticity’ and beyond.
