Black Leaf

TT, formerly known as Treasure Teeth, is the electronic music duo comprised of James and Barbara Elting Mckillop. With a discography that dates back over a decade and works created in London, Miami, and New York City the group has recently released a new album on London's ANE Records titled "Crosstalk". James and Barbara are friends of mine that have taught me how to use a plethora of my instruments over the years. Deeply humble, but astute in consideration of output and composition, TT exists as a benchmark of artistic integrity. The latest album can be bought here :

The Psychic Liberation show aims to document and recount information through conversations with artists working within sub, and sometimes countercultural, connective musical or otherwise creative communities. This is a template worth reflection as we enter a further atomizing digital age wherein the role of in person connectivity is actively subverted and co-opted by convenient social interfaces. This program aims to create a model by which inspiration and information can be pulled from and applied to aiding burgeoning communities regardless of form, content, or make-up.

Psychic Liberation presents “Friendly CSA Compilations Parts 1 & 2”. A compilation in two parts consisting of artists orbiting the PL canon from around the world in an effort to raise funds for Roots Unbound Friendly CSA.

Roots Unbound (RU) is an abolitionist grassroots organization based in Brooklyn offering nature-based programming centered around food justice, therapeutic horticulture and ecological disinvestment to people in the NYC area with a focus on supporting and uplifting people impacted by the carceral system.

Friendly CSA is a cooperative, agricultural initiative that was mobilized to respond to the food apartheid within New York jails and prisons. Roots Unbound sends care packages of harvested produce that are
chosen by incarcerated folks via a newsletter sent out every month, by growing and collaborating with local New York City land stewards. This CSA is provided at no cost to the recipients, funds raised for this CSA will be used towards packaging, postage, printed materials for newsletters, and a P.O. box.

I remember making this track:

I was walking through Glasgow, handing out CV's because my parents had told me I needed a job, even though I was studying, so I could get another job in the future (no gaps in my employment record). It was raining and I didn't want a job. CV after CV was handed in. If you've never been to Glasgow, I can tell you the rain is very "sharp"; it cuts through your clothes and stings like little bolts of electricity surging though your body (not like Edinburgh rain).

While I was on Great Western Road, near the Botanical gardens, I had this strange recolection of the way I felt in High School: a sense of confusion and non-belonging; disphoric. The fact that the person I was then was almost completely erased from memory, a blur, yet still present years later, was strange and relativley existential. 

I went home and made this, and as strange as it is, this piece of music sounded exactly the way I felt in that specific moment. And for that reason I've always considered this paticular track a creative, artistic success.
