After 4 years of rave parties in Lyon, the Spiral Dance crew just gave birth to the Sous Traitance label.

Throughout its first compilation – a strong selection of up-and-coming producers –, the collective gathered 30 minutes of fiery and experimental breakbeat, considerably influenced by the ‘90s wild energy.

Yet, the 6-track Various goes beyond showcasing an obvious inheritance from the UK early-rave era, perfectly embodied by Antoine 80 and Shcuro contributions. The 12” vinyl also blends genres from the past 3 decades - in the true spirit of the current French underground djing style -, as Jonnnah and Penelope’s Fiance both from the contemporary drum n bass scene codes, while DJ 8.6 drops a mid-2010s industrial downtempo burner, and Yolek even sounds to be inspired by the nasty, raw atmospheres of 2000s hip-hop.

FÆRIES proudly presents Chouf’s new track, BSP. Drawing from her background as a social worker, the artist now offers music workshops revolving around poetry, intended for underprivileged audiences. Her work has been described as standing at the crossroads between « spoken word and sentimental raï ». This new project is part of the soundtrack from filmmaker duo Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel’s upcoming video game-inspired film « Best Secret Place », produced by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. On BSP, Chouf chants, as a light calling from beyond. Magnified by reverb, the artist’s voice is accompanied by an airy choir that amplifies the strength of her words. A mystical, oneiric soundscape is drawn, inhabited by the distant distorted echo of TRUSTFALL’s guitar. Using traditional codes to restructure contemporary poetry, Chouf’s enchanting elegy shapes a mystical piece. Following the track is a remix by Lux, skillfully reconstructing the original work with bass-heavy rythms and precise sound design.
