A little bit Tex-Mex, a little bit blues, a little bit singer/songwriter, a lot of rock and roll. Born and raised in Houston, Tx, Nick Diaz honed his craft over the years spending time and performing in New Orleans, New York City, San Francisco and now Austin, Tx. 2017 and 2019 saw Diaz stand alongside Texas legend Alejandro Escovedo as his lead guitarist while Buenos Diaz drummer, Jeff Olson, held down the drum seat for Austin indie rockers White Denim. Charlotte, NC native Mike Saint Clair rounds out the trio on bass having worked with Okkervil River, White Denim and Polyphonic Spree. Buenos Diaz has released 2 full length records, 2 EP’s, along with a slew of singles released throughout the entirety of 2019. 2020 will see Buenos Diaz release their new EP "I Want You" produced by grammy award winning producer/guitarist Beto Martinez (Brownout, Grupo Fantasma). 98.9 KUTX has coined their recordings as “lo-fi loveliness and analog excellence” while No Depression Magazine said “Diaz guitar work blew me away”. Whether it’s gritty Texas blues, in your face NY punk, retro new wave, or contemporary folk, Buenos Diaz is sure to fit a taste of Texas in each song.

Money Chicha: Austin’s first chicha group, incorporating the psychedelic sounds of guitars, fuzz, and reverb with heavy percussion, cumbia rythyms and the melodies of Colombia and Peru. Their music is an homage to the musical and cultural movement of the ’60s and 70’s that was known as chicha.

Grupo Fantasma is back with their fifth studio album, Problemas, produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Los Super Seven) and set for release on October 30, 2015 on Blue Corn Music.  This is the band’s first studio album since their GRAMMY award-winning 2010 release El Existential.

Although Austin’s music scene changes constantly and rapidly, one band that endures and continues to evolve is Grupo Fantasma. This year marks the 15th anniversary of their first show at the Empanada Parlor in Austin, Texas.

Grupo Fantasma formed in 2000 and is comprised of musicians with Latin, American and Texan roots. Praised as one of the most important independent acts in the Latin genre, they are widely known for their energetic live shows, which NPR describes as “seamless…whenever and wherever they’re on stage.” The 9-piece orchestra has received praise from The Wall Street Journal, Billboard, Huffington Post, and USA Today called the band “Latin-funk masters.”  The band has also seen a wide array of film and TV placements including AMC’s Breaking Bad, the John Sayles’ film Casa de los Babys, Showtime’s hit series Weeds, ABC’s Ugly Betty, NBC’s Law & Order and many others. They have served as the backing band on several occasions for the legendary Prince (ALMA Awards on ABC, Golden Globes, CBS Super Bowl Bash), Fania All–Stars pianist Larry Harlow, Sheila–E, GZA of Wu–Tang Clan, Daniel Johnston, Aaron Freeman of Ween, and indie rock standouts Spoon.

On their new offering, Nemegata ascends the proverbial Holy Mountain. Their upcoming third full-length was recorded at Lechehouse Music in Buda, TX, and produced by Grammy-award Winning musician and producer Beto Martinez (Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Money Chicha), and Juan “El Mono” Alvarez. The new album is a powerful Afro-Indigenous Colombian shamanic journey filled with tobacco-seeped jungle sounds, eerie synthesizers, and distorted psychedelic guitars.

These songs pay homage to ancestral voices and figures, as well as the powerful voices of Colombian youth activists who stood up in 2021 and continue to shape the future of Colombia through their protests.

Nemegata is a fierce power trio fronted by Víctor-Andrés Cruz “El Guámbito” on lead vocals, electric guitar,synth and Colombian percussion. With the taut, polyrhythmic lock of César Valencia “I Nova” on bass, synth, Colombian percussion, and vocals. And Fabián Rincón “Don Fabo” on drums, synth drums, and vocals. Their sound is often described as hallucinatory, otherworldly, and haunting, with a trance-like performance.

The band is heavily influenced by their native Colombian traditions such as cumbia, bullerengue, gaita music, Colombian Andean songs, as well as '60s and '70s mind-bending psychedelia from Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.

Nemegata’s futuristic take on tropical Latinx sounds and Abyayalismo has won over audiences and critics alike with their explosive live shows, earning them “Top 10 Local Acts” in 2019, alongside BlackPumas.

Their debut album Hycha Wy (Sonorama Discos) is considered one of Austin’s top 100 albums of 2020. The band has also been nominated for the 2022 Austin Music Awards in the “Best of World Music” category.
