لماذا البومة؟

ثقافيًا، تحمل البومة دلالات سلبية حيث يشار إليها دائمًا على أنها تجلب سوء الحظ. يُقال للنساء العابسات "ابتسمي لا تكوني مثل البومة". لكن في الواقع، البومة مخلوقًا رائعًا يتمتع بخصائص غير عادية: يمكنها إدارة رأسها والرؤية من جميع الاتجاهات، ولديها حواس قوية في الرؤية والسمع ويمكنها سماع الأصوات الضعيفة. وعادة ما تكون فريسة البومة أثقل منها. 

هكذا نأمل أن نكون: أن نسمع الأصوات الخافتة ونعبر عنها، أن نرى حتى في الأوقات المظلمة، وأن نفترس نظامًا أبويًا راسخًا أكبر منا بكثير. 

We are an Egyptian feminist band. We produce songs based on women's life experiences in the Egyptian society. 

Why ElBouma (The Owl)?
Culturally, ElBouma entails bad connotations as it’s always referred to as a creature who brings misfortune. Women who are frowning are being told “Smile, don’t be like ElBouma”. But in fact, ElBouma is an amazing creature with extraordinary characteristics: It has a 360 degree vision, It  has a very strong  hearing sense  that allows it to hear the lowest  of voices  Additionally, El bouma is able to prey on animals  that are  heavier than it. 

That’s how we aim to be: to listen to and express the vulnerable voices, to see even in the darkest times, and to prey on an established patriarchal system that is much bigger than us.
