Optimo the club always booked live acts rather than DJs and over the years it ran as a weekly club put on literally hundreds of bands. Perhaps as a result of this we get a lot of bands approaching us wanting to collaborate. The time felt right to start an offshoot label purely dedicated to bands. We are therefore delighted to present our new imprint: Optimo Music Rocks!

First up on the label is Edinburgh based Bikini Body, a live tour de force and no slouches in the studio either. ‘Mr Tinnitus’ is a digital taster of their upcoming full ‘Weird Party’ EP which will also receive a very limited vinyl release a little later in 2024.

We asked Bikini Body to tell us about the upcoming EP, and ‘Mr Tinnitus’.

‘Weird Party’ is a collection of tried and tested Post-Funk Punk tracks, each with a personality that evokes the oddballs and tearaways you met at that weird house party the other week. ‘Mr Tinnitus’ leads the record with Disco doggerel and plenty of cowbell, signalling our desire to be dancier than Post-Punk and Punkier than dance. Personal experience of disappointing encounters, chauvinist male stereotypes and gendered ideals pepper the remaining tracks without compromising the irresistible groove inherent to the Bikini Body sound. 

We made this record with our good friend and intuitive producer, Chris McCrory, at Green Door Studio in Glasgow. Capturing the live sound was at the heart of the recording process, and it is a joy to finally usher these songs from the dancefloor to your turntable. The release was mastered by the legendary Bob Weston.


“Mr. Tinnitus” is backed with a Dub version mixed by Joe Ariwa. Joe Ariwa is a young sound engineer / producer bringing a youthful, fresh & exciting style to dub music! He is also Dub legend Mad Professor's son.

"Neulust," the latest EP from Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge, introduces listeners to the talents of Joshua Gottmanns and Niklas Wandt. Wandt's captivating voice invokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the era when Thorsten Fenslau was active, infusing tracks with poetic recitations. Wandt's drumming harmonizes perfectly with Gottmanns' warm chords and captivating melodies. Together, they debuted on Zurich's Lustpoderosa label with "Neulust," aiming to redefine their musical connection. Their presence in the central European underground scene has been marked by releases on Themes for Great Cities or Bureau B, accompanied by their vintage German Wave sound and lively performances. Regular touring has been part of their journey. "Neulust," recorded with minimal intervention, delves into themes of love, estrangement, and consumerism, blending haunting electro, deep house, NDW, and Euro Dance Elements. The EP signifies a significant stylistic shift and stands as the band's most compelling offering yet in their ongoing musical evolution.

Through the night they would travel, beneath the cloak of darkness. It was cooler then and they might slip by undetected.

Strange forces watched over this place, something in the great beyond kept a careful look out.

It was that which they must escape.

Oceanic appears alongside a cast of wicked producers on the final release from BAKK. A compilation which features the likes of Legowelt, Aurora Halal, Don't DJ and more plays out the label in style. This track showcases Oceanic's unique and pensive approach to sound design.

'T/ERROR | DATA SURFER' is the latest EP from New Interplanetary Melodies (NIM), a collaboration between Simona Faraone’s NIM label and the collective Kuro Jam, led by Gianluca Pernafelli. The EP features Rome producer T/ERROR creating a musical version of a new comic strip titled “DATA SURFER.” The narrative explores the consequences of a special mixer falling into the hands of an angry suburban hoodlum immersed in electronic music. The EP unfolds in a vivid picture of “pain, passion, and redemption across Rome and Berlin” with T/ERROR’s sound-narrative journey reflecting electro-acid tones, dark mechanical sounds, and liquid electro.

PREMIERE: T/ERROR  - Last Brute In The Firmament [New Interplanetary Melodies]

We present you the EP from Anton Levdikov “The Umbra is going wild”.  Umbras are the author’s mythical characters, about whom he tells legends about and depicts in his paintings and installations.  The EP chronicles their journeys, which become wilder from track to track: through darkness to light, through light to darkness.  A long but fascinating journey.

Musically, Anton notes his love for industrial music, acid house and electronic body music.  The remixes involve producers from different genres: their diversity continues the path of Umbra.  Among them: Mexican producer TKUZ, Spaniard and owner of the Logical Records label - Ivan De La Rouche, resident of Arma 17 and Pinkman - LVRIN, one of the founders of the Bravers - ORYOL and resident of Temple de Plastique - JULIA KONOR.

GC's first reference, titled “Enter the Wild” is stuffed with elements brought together to create a mix of percussion, groove, and excitement, an after-midnight fiesta combining Anastasia Zems’s massive vocal talent with what the label’s creator, Mike Sacchetti had envisioned probably influenced by a tribal dance he saw in a movie and a long bike ride home.

Both stepped out a bit from their living room couch to deliver something fresh to the sound of Indie Dance. And as if it wasn’t confusing enough to your expectations, two special guests came to spend the evening at the remix department: the french based Moroccan rooted artist Zaatar widens the sound spectrum while spitting out cosmic dust with a slow builder re-interpretation piece of “The World’s a Dream”, ultimately to hand it over to Berlin’s established producer Radial Gaze to properly fuel the rocket with an acid energized version just tailored for the peak time enthusiasts.
