For his first solo EP, Tushen Raï designed a record in the form of a colorful patchwork of sounds, a meticulous collage of samples, surrounding noises and synthesizers. Here, Maori percussion dug on field recording discs from the late 60s and 70s meet Indonesian chants recorded on phones and posted anonymously online. A nostalgic yet deeply contemporary testimony to an imagination weakened resulting from the cultural globalization. 

With "Drums Circles", Tushen Raï wants to reconnect with the adventure novels, from Jules Vernes to Barjavel, which nourished his childhood. Thought out as an ode to the diversity of our cultures, our practices and our beliefs, "Drums Circles" is a cry in favor of open-mindedness and curiosity. It is an invitation to discovery rather than to conquest. 

A humble invitation to embark on a journey and to collective trance.

HRDF: Who are you ?
JS: I am Juniore Super, co-founder of the SUPER Daronne collective based in Bordeaux. I have always been passionate about music and started making music at a young age, playing several instruments. When I discovered electronic music for the first time I saw the opportunity to mix all my past inspirations through mixing. Playing records allows me to put my idea of the most adequate music in a given context. It's this role as a transmitter of emotions or culture that I find captivating. Today I also have another role, that of holding an artistic direction and programming the electronic segment of the lBOAT in Bordeaux. It's something that suits me quite well I think because I am very curious and adventurous in this passion. Music is above all a sharing, introspections as much as meetings! I am very happy to be able to participate in the creative effort with this piece and to give an account of my musical interpretation beyond my turntables.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
JS: I've always had a bit of a nostalgic view of music, I'm quite a fan of the raw, analog production methods of the previous century. When looking for vinyl beyond the record shops, you'll end up browsing through a lot of old stuff in an attic, in your family's collection or on flea markets. This record was in a batch that I had recovered to clear a friend during the confinement. I always had this little challenge to try to find a nice surprise. To do that, you have to listen to everything without leaving out any details. And that's how, in the middle of this popular 45, I discovered this slightly hidden synth pop track.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
JS: First of all I think this song appealed to me by its title and the lyrics of the original version. It was composed in 1985 and from a certain point of view it is very topical. During the confinement it was even disturbing! So I decided to make a more current and futuristic version, as if the original was stranded on a new land, the Terra Novae.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
JS: Today I really take to heart my new job as a programmer, it's a great experience that allows me to explore the current scene and learn every day. I also play almost every weekend and I continue to share the music I collect, it's really good to be able to dance again! I'm lucky enough to be able to do it alone or with my friends from SUPER Daronne depending on the dates so I enjoy it. For the moment the production is more like a few hours here and there because it all takes time, I will publish new stuff one day maybe or maybe not ! I don't put any pressure on myself at all, I think the most important thing is to do music with sense and passion.

In this first days of 2019 we have the fantastic new track from Discos Capablanca's Golpe De Estado - 'Liquido'...
When we say 'new' this is a track which has existed in some shape or form for a decade, a production from Hugo Capablanca and Oklo Gabon was reportedly rejected from a label for being too weird.  A decade on Marc Piñol heard the track, was blown away by it and asked Hugo to remix it.
The result is a shonky New York influenced lo intensity houser chock full of live instrumentation.  Bongos, sax, flute and freejazz which would not sound out of place in a Kenny Dope or Louie Vega set, think Nu Yorcian Soul remade in the Catalan and you are somewhere near close, but not close enough. 
Do yourself a favour, hit play melt away.

PREMIERE | Golpe De Estado - Liquido (Marc Piñol Remix) [Discos Capablanca] 2019

Andrew Claristidge teams up once again with the mysterious Workerpoor for a new EP on the ever-eclectic Night Noise Music. The release was written between their studios in la Bretagne, Paris and Berlin, and comes backed with remixes from David Carretta, Cristiano Roberto, The Soviet Union and Tales of Voodoo. Claristidge was formerly part of Acid Washed and has toured the world with his multi-faceted sounds that veers from pop to wave to techno. Workerpoor, meanwhile, has been at the heart of the dark electro scene on labels like Zone with artists like Arnaud Rebotini, The Hacker and Gesaffelstein. Their latest EP makes use of analog synths, drum machines and field recordings from the lake of Callac de Bretagne, so brims with life.
The fantastic first track ‘Strength Training’ is a dark, deviant, electro-wave burner that soundtracks a cyborg disco. It’s raw, rugged and futuristic and perfect for club deployment, while the second track ‘Slow Uppercut’ is a slow, ambient, robotic piece redolent of Boards Of Canada that will sink you into a cosmic abyss.
First remixer is legendary French artist David Carretta who opts for crashing hits and slapping drums that are dazzling and distorted in equal measure. Cristiano Roberto is a new alias from electro & disco mainstay Rodion and here he cooks up a psychedelic slow burner that will flip you inside out. Synth disco don The Soviet Union serves up an intergalactic workout of pixel thin synths and punk-funk drums that are fantastically visceral and direct. Last of all, Tales of Voodoo — a London party and artist that transcends musical boundaries—layers up swirling pads and trippy colours, crisp hits and rumbling bass into something strangely joyous.
This is another devilishly good package of modern disco from Night Noise.

Julian Fleker is an artist from Argentina, a friend from our origins in the underground of Buenos Aires. Ricardo Ruben's project starting from the name to the artistic side face and composition takes a humorous place, although his musical background is serious. Ricardo Ruben is a character from a song by the 80's rock group Los Twists that carried a share of acid humor. It is then that the name of this Ep is not surprising, nor the way to face a different compositional work, wanting to highlight an idiosyncrasy of personal and local search.

“Sinatra is not dead, Yabran told me” plays with black humor and a story of an Argentine media gate. Yabran was a businessman accused of mafias and corruption that ended in a suicide case where everyone doubted his true death as someones think with Sinatra too. Ricardo Ruben is a drummer and the track is a tremendous banger full of percussions, and acid arpeggios of 303 in staccato where a real drum solo joins playing on top by rolling fills. A song that gallops sideways and that is a tractor pushing pistons like crazy. Weird, jazzy, creepy and bizarre black humor, really irresistible.
