We pull the curtain on 2014 through the second volume in our "All Stars" compilation series. We're proud to look back and excited to look forward to what we like to call 'high quality eclectic electronic music' - a quite elusive term for what we've been looking for and promoting since day one. 

We always conclude that each year has been the biggest and most important in our artistic development and 2014 is no different. This year we've changed pretty much everything - from our logo to our approach - bringing 3 new imprints to life as to further encourage the growth of each sonic pallete among like-minded artists and followers.

We showcased our selection of the best 100 tracks released by and within the Origami Sound collective of artists and labels through the "2 Years" compilation, which also marked the end of free/donation-based releases. 
"All Stars: Volume 1" celebrated our fanbase growth and was a testament to the variety of music that we became passionate about over the years. 

"All Stars: Volume 2" brings together 5 previously released tracks and 5 exclusive contributions into a mission statement that is better heard then read. We're looking at a really classy 2015 on all fronts with lots of surprising releases from both new and highly established artists, most of which will also see a physical release.

We continue our journey with Dogu Civicik, a self­described “guy with a funny last name and an unquenchable thirst for music”. Our next Urban Cosmonaut is somewhat disillusioned with adult life: he strives to recreate sentiments from the past, when everything seemed clear and simple, and when the music persisted long after its time.

While  his  style  fluctuates  in  tune  with  his  current  mood,  the  music  itself  is  meant  to  be anything but temporary. It’s meant to last long after the ebb and flow of genres and styles has died down.

“My roots lie in Anatolia ­ so does my soul, and so does my music.” His work is infused with the sounds of his heritage that helped Dogu Civicik grow into who he is: an artist who has never known the limitations of genres, growing up listening to 70’s jazz and funk and being exposed to traditional Turkish music from his grandfather. 

This  mixtape  is  a  mélange  of  Dogu’s  own  edits  and  productions,  inspired  by  feelings  of misanthropy when he’s confronted by the current state of society. If you listen closely, you can  hear  the  tension  and  the  melancholy ­  and  if  you  listen  even  closer,  you  can  feel  the mood that shaped this special podcast in our series.

To quote Dogu Civicik: the wound is the place where light enters you. Enjoy!

Martha Van Straaten MixTape 015 - Festival Nomade

A reconstruction of my NYE afterhour set in Kater Kiosk on Monday morning, 4th of January 2016. 

The floor wasn't really crowded. But it was filled with the right people. These kind of people that make you realize that it's much more satisfying to select tunes for 25 listeners than pleasing 500 raveheads. Due to the intimate atmosphere this set got more melancholic than expected. All in all it's a mix like twothousandfifteen – with a lot of darkness, a bit of light and a new beginning at the end. Hopefully.

Frau Hofmann who is based in Munich and part of the tanz.t.raum music team kicks off this wonderful set with an absolute gem from oceanvs orientalis. You know this will be an hour long journey in to musical depths where she takes your ears and mind in all sorts of directions yet you have your two feet on the ground. Frau Hofmann has this ease of making transitions between songs to make you have this impression that both songs were made to go one after the other. This mix has an excellent blend of some very cool deep minimal beats with melodic harmonies and calm vocals. 

She keeps on delivering wonderful mix tapes and it is definitely worth taking the time to check her profile where she has produced a number of mixes for renown podcasts from around the world.

Der Münchner Alex hatte ein lange Zeit meine Lieblingspodcast Reihe Schatzkiste gehostet. Über ihn bin ich zu so einige Künstlern gekommen, die ich sonst nicht so schnell oder überhaupt nicht gefunden hätte. Nachdem er sich von soundcloud verabschiedet hatte, sind wir aber dann doch noch in Kontakt geblieben. Bei unserem letzten Telefonat hab ich mal so gefragt … “wie siehts aus, magst mal einen Podcast für mich Machen?” und schwubs am nächsten Tag hatte ich dieses experimentell Dub-Techno Set im Posteingang liegen. 

Seit ca. 20 Jahren sammelt Alex nun schon das schwarze Gold und hat sein Mixing mehr als perfektioniert. Danke Alex für dieses besondere Set und schön das uns die Musik zusammegeführt hat.

We had been waiting for a long time for this edition with @mettabbana. He is a Kosovo born, Washington DC based DJ, vintage vinyl collector and curator who melds analog and folkloric sounds from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, his Balkan homeland and beyond. He has founded a number of global music focused event series and collectives in DC such as the all-vinyl Analog Soul Club, Tropic of Bass, 1001 Beats, and is a resident DJ with the @meso-creso artistic collective. His music styles range from vintage vinyl organic sounds and gritty bass to more modern and subtle interpretations of musical tradition and cross-cultural electronic fusions. 

This particular mix is the third installment of his Kismet series, especially recorded for this 52th edition. The Kismet series was initially conceived as a sunrise set played live on Burning Man Radio a few years ago. This mix as the rest of the series spans a wide spectrum of human emotions with recurring themes of nostalgia, beauty, tradition, pride, rebellion, and playfulness. When you least expect it you will receive a surprise highlighted by this mix. It gets closer and closer to the light that came in through an admirable consistency, enjoyable atmosphere! It is not long before all of you find yourselves walking along a musical-vortex, feel it! As the energy of this podcast stays long even after it has gone, we recommend it to inspire and reveal new flavours and to awaken new sensations.

Sie bespielen nicht nur die fabelhaften Clubs wie Kauz, Hive, Zukunft oder die legändere Friedas Büxe, sondern haben sich vorallem durch ihre Partyreihe “Miras” einen Namen gemacht. “Miras” sind Parties in Offlocation mit dem Ziel einen Pop-Up-Club mit einzigartiger Deko, Musik und Stimmung für eine einzige Nacht zu kreieren – respekt für die große Mühe. 

Außerdem haben sie erst letzte Woche das Muyal Festival veranstaltet, ein Benefizfestivals zu Gunsten zweier Hilfsorganisationen für Nepal und Simbabwe. Feiern für einen guten Zweck … find ich super <3

Mir sind die beiden vor allem durch ihren hervorragenden Podcast für unsere Freunde von “Das hätte es Früher nicht gegeben” aufgefallen. Mich begeistert bei ihrer Musik zum einen der Indie-Pop Einfluß der 80er Jahre und die fantastische Wandlungsfähigkeit. 

So nun genug gequatsch … Ohren auf für SENTIMENT …

Aber Hallo ist ja schon wieder 1 Tag vor Weihnachten --- war nicht gerade erst Sommer. Aber ich wäre ja nicht der Elektro Uwe wenn ich es nicht schon geahnt hätte. Deswegen gibt es auch dieses Jahr ganz selbstverständlich wieder ein kleines Xmas Special Schmankerl für eure Ohren. Wie jedes Jahr suche ich mir hierzu immer einen ganz besonderen Künstler/in aus meiner Sammlung von DJs aus … folgende Eigenschaften sollte dieser dann haben: bisschen verrückt, ungewöhnlichen Musikgeschmack und in keine Schublade passen … weder quer noch längs. Und für dieses Jahr hab ich da einen langjährigen Weggefährten ausgewählt … Daensen von der drosssel-Gang aus Berlin erfüllt alle Anforderung für ein schönes Kontrastprogramm zu White Christmas und Plätzchen und lässt euch garantiert in den Leerlauf-Modus kommen.

Ein Jahr und ein Jahrzehnt neigen sich dem Ende zu. Und wie die 4 Jahre vorher gibt es auch dieses Jahr wieder einen kleinen Jahresrückblick. Und wie jedes Jahr mit einem besonderen Cover von meinem Arbeitskollegen und Freund Schub.

Musikalisch hat dieses 2019 die grandiose Künstlerin Lenia aus Wien vertont. Auch hier habe ich wieder ganz schön lang rumüberlegt wenn ich auswählen soll. Auf Lenia ist meine Wahl gefallen, weil ihre Musik so direkt und ehrlich rüber kommt. Kein Fame … sondern wahre Leidenschaft für die Musik und dieses Lebensgefühl das unsere Szene wiederspiegelt bzw. wiederspiegeln sollte. 

Auch dieses Jahr hatte ich meine Künstlerin gebeten ein Thema für Cover und Mix auszuwählen. Ganz nach dem Motto was hat dich dieses Jahr bewegt oder berührt. 

Das Thema „going up in flames“ fand ich sehr passend. Leni schrieb dazu „Wie ich aus dem Weltall auf die Erde schaue und überall Feuer flimmern sehe. Die Wälder brennen, die Städte sind voller Riots, überall brennt der Hut. Aber, Feuer macht auch Platz für Neues. Hauptsache am Ende gewinnt die Freiheit“. 

Schub und ich haben dann lang überlegt was wir hierfür als Cover umsetzten sollen. Komplementär zum Feuer ist das Wasser und da sind wir beim Thema was uns mehr als bewegt hat dieses Jahr … tausende von Menschen ertrinken im Mittelmeer und wir müssen dabei zuschauen, weil unsere Politiker unfähig sind. Das Symbol für den Wahnsinn ist der Rettungsring an den wir uns wohl alle klammern … der aber leider auch bereits in Flammen steht. Es ist Zeit für einen Bewusstseinswechsel damit wir das noch halbwegs hinbekommen als Menschheit. Auf ein 2020 mit vielen positiven Veränderungen … Phönix aus der Asche.

So meine lieben Hörer, Künstler und Freunde … kommt gut ins neue Jahrzehnt … mit viel Liebe und Freiheit.

Ich wünsche meinen lieben Hörern, Künstlern und Freunden ein wunderbares und gesundes 2020. Mögen sich eure Wünsche und Träume erfüllen. 

Es ist viel passiert im 2019 und ich habe auch viele Entscheidungen getroffen die einiges in meinem Leben verändert haben und speziell im 2020 verändern werden. Eins davon ist das es der letzte Neujahrs-Mix in meiner kleinen feinen Podcast-Reihe sein wird … ihr könnt euch noch auf zwei wunderbare weitere Podcast freuen und dann ist Ende Januar Schluss mit sound(ge)cloud … man soll bekanntlich aufhören wenn es am schönsten ist.

Aber erst mal ist es ja noch nicht so weit und deswegen öffnen wir mit NIL SON aus Dresden heute erst mal die Büchse der Pandora. Und Nil Son hat zu diesem Mythos auch seine ganz Eigene und schöne Vorstellung die ich euch nicht vorenthalten möchte und der eigentlich nix hinzuzufügen ist.

Im vorletzten Podcast meiner Serie habe ich mal eine Künstlerin gewählt, die mal nicht hinter den DJ Pulten von Partys steht. Hekske hat eine unglaubliche Leidenschaft für den Downtempo entwickelt und nennt sich selbst die 'The Bibi Blocksberg of the Downtempo Scene'. Neben ihrer grandios kurierten Podcast-Serie „The House Witchtapes“ spielt sie seit 2017 regelmäßig für diverse Podcast-Serien Sets ein und macht dies mit unheimlicher Akribie und Hingabe. Und wie das mit den Hexen so ist … ein bisschen Magie ist irgendwie dabei auch immer im Spiel. Keiner ihrer Podcasts gleich dem anderen … immer wird für die Reihe eine ganz speziell passende Stimmung erzeugt und in einem wunderbaren Flow vermischt. Podcasting in Reinform.

Liebe Hekske tausend Dank das du als Hexe meinen letzten weiblichen Podcast einspielst. Mein Konzept mit 50/50 Podcast hat übrigens super funktioniert und ich kann allen Reihen empfehlen es evtl. auch umzusetzen … ist gar nicht so schwer … es gibt genug tolle Künstlerinnen da draus und es werden immer mehr … aber nur wenn man sie aktive supportet. 

So meine lieben Hörer … nun wünsch ich euch viel musikalische Freude mit Hekske und ein besonderes Schmakerl erwartet euch dann in zwei Wochen zum Finale von sound(ge)cloud.

Ich finde jedes tolle Projekt, gerade wenn es vom Herzen kommt, sollte ein würdiges und schönes Ende haben. Deswegen habe ich mich vor ca. 3 Monaten dazu entschlossen meine Aktivitäten bei Afterhour Sounds und vor allem meine kleine, aber doch sehr feine Podcast-Reihe sound(ge)cloud zu beenden. Anfangs ist diese Entscheidung irgendwie sehr spontan und aus dem Bauch heraus entstanden. Aber nun nach ca. 3 Monaten muss ich sagen ist es eine gute Entscheidung für mich und schafft Platz für Neues … weil Stillstand ist irgendwie nicht so mein Ding. 

Die Gründe wieso ich keine Lust mehr habe so viel Zeit in dieses elektronische Musikdings zu stecken sind vielfältig und eigentlich auch nicht wirklich wichtig. Viel wichtiger ist was ich aus den 5 Jahren mitnehme konnte. Das sind auf jeden Fall viele tolle Momente mit fantastischer Musik. Viele tiefgehende Gespräche mit Menschen die zu Freunden geworden sind. Verrückte Erlebnisse die man eigentlich nur auf Techno-Partys erleben kann. Ich würde sagen ALLES in ALLEM und in SUMME --- Bewusstseinserweiternd.

Für den letzten Podcast war eigentlich auch sofort klar … dass hier nur Doob & Janoma in frage kommen können. Sound(ge)cloud und Janosch und Andi sind eine ganz besondere Beziehung. Ihr erster gemeinsamer Auftritt war auch gleichzeitig mein erster Podcast. Und was gibt es Besseres als mit dem aufzuhören mit dem man angefangen hat. So schließt sich der Kreis und das ganze wird eine runde Sache 😃 5 Jahre sound(ge)cloud und 5 Jahre doob & janoma … eine tolle Experience 💖

Und wie immer bei Doob & Janoma ist der Podcast genau auf den Punkt. Ihre selbst gesetzte Mission für diesen Podcast war „zeitlose Schönheit mit Tiefgang“ für mich zu kreieren. Hey ihr Schnuckis, ich kann dazu nur sagen „mission accomplished“. Besser kann man nicht aufhören …

Neben Andi und Janosch möchte ich mich natürlich bei allen fantastischen Künstlern bedanken, die diese Reihe mit ihrer grenzenlosen Liebe zur elektronischen Tanzmusik zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemacht haben. Es war in 136 Folgen kein Podcast dabei der nicht genau für diesen Moment gepasst hätte --- IHR seid einfach SPITZE.

Und ganz am Ende geht natürlich ein Dickes DANKESCHÖN an meine Hörer weltweit die über die vielen Jahre treu dieser Reihe gefolgt sind geliked, repost und kommentiert haben. Es hat mir große Freude bereitet für euch die Perlen aus dem Dschungel der elektronischen Musik zu tauchen … ich hoffe ihr hattet die ein oder andere großartige Stunde damit.

Und wie ein guter Freund von mir immer sagte, wenn ich mich von ihm verabschiedet habe:
