m ë x presents "Quietly and secretly into the late hour" Afterhour Sounds Podcast

Unsere Nummer 210 kommt von einem jungen lateinamerikanischen Künstler, den ich jetzt seit knapp zwei Jahren verfolge und mich immer wieder mit seinen abwechslungsreichen Sets beeindruckt hat: Nämlich m ë x  (https://soundcloud.com/meaex).

Als Mitglied des bekannten Wiener Projekts "Heimlich (https://soundcloud.com/heimlichaufsc)"  kümmert er sich mit Gleichgesinnten vor allem um die Förderung von Kunst, Kultur und entschleunigter, elektronischer Musik in Wien. Aber auch als DJ ist er schon reichlich herumgekommen. Neben egtl. allen Wiener Clubs, war er auch bereits in diversen Berliner Clubs und auch der Fusion zu Gast. Zudem ist er ein Teil des Produzententrios https://soundcloud.com/willezumwahnsinn.

In seinem Sound lässt er sich dabei nicht in eine Schublade packen. Nein, das will und braucht er auch gar nicht, Irgendwo zwischen Down- und MIdtempo zieht er gekonnt verschiedene, musikalische Register. Egal ob Ketapop, Deep House, Neo- und Jetlagdicco.... es kommt immer ein wunderbar harmonisches Sammelsurium heraus, das man nicht missen möchte. 
So auch bei unserem neusten Podcast mit dem Namen "Quietly and secretly into the late hour", der im Grunde alles punktgenau beschreibt. Neben einem gewohnt entspannten Beginn drückt er dezent, aber zielgerichtet immer mehr aufs Gas ohne dabei zu übertreiben. Angereichert wird alles mit einer bunten Mischung aus teils sphärischen, verspielten und melodischen Tracks. Dabei wird die Zielrichtung im weiteren Verlauf des Sets immer klarer: Nämlich die entspannte Afterhour. Und wie!

m ë x, Danke für deine Hingabe und für das Zusammenstellen und aufnehmen dieses besonderen Sets. Dich habe ich bisher noch in keinem Set so gehört. Bitter mehr davon.
Ich bin mir sicher, dass die Welt noch viel von dir hören wird.

Our number 210 comes from a young Latin artist I've been following for almost two years now, who has always impressed me with his diverse sets: Namely m ë x (https://soundcloud.com/meaex).

As a member of the well-known Viennese project "Heimlich (https://soundcloud.com/heimlichaufsc)", he and like-minded people are primarily concerned with promoting art, culture and decelerated, electronic music in Vienna. But also as a DJ he has been around a lot. In addition to egtl. all Viennese clubs, he has also been a guest in various Berlin clubs and Fusion. Besides he is a part of https://soundcloud.com/willezumwahnsinn.

In his sound he does not let himself be pigeonholed. No, he doesn't want to and he doesn't need to. Somewhere between down- and middtempo he skilfully pulls out different musical stops. No matter if Ketapop, Deep House, Neo- and Jetlagdicco.... it always comes out a wonderfully harmonious smorgasbord that you don't want to miss. 
This is also the case with our latest podcast called "Quietly and secretly into the late hour", which basically describes everything spot on. In addition to the usual relaxed beginning, he presses the gas discreetly but purposefully more and more without overdoing it. Everything is enriched with a colorful mixture of partly spherical, playful and melodic tracks. As the set progresses, the goal becomes clearer and clearer: namely, the relaxed afterhour. And how!

m ë x, thank you for your dedication and for putting together and recording this special set. I haven't heard you like this in any set before. Bitter more of the same.

Different form, same attitude. 

Times go back slowly to feel a bit more familiar, it takes some patience to understand where things are truly going, but I can only be thankful that you stayed around this project all this time. A pleasure to be on this little journey together.

This set is a compilation of my favorite productions over the last months, including releases in labels such as @LOKDbasel, @moodfamily and some inclusions from my upcoming album that will be out on @lautundluise in 2022.

Our all-night long sessions on Thursdays at Klaus regularly get a bit out of hand and have already ended in a 9-hour set 🚀 Even though we find it cool to be able to watch work colleagues eating "Znüni" on our way home after a Donnerklaus, we are unfortunately not getting any younger 👶 So our old raver joints were all the more relieved when our buddy @hovrmusic came to visit us last Thursday ⭐️ Here is our (unusually short 😜) warm-up from last week 🎉

Donnerklaus – Vorspiel mit Klaus – 23.06.22

It’s been 3 weeks, and I’m still vibrating - still a little incredulous about playing live at Kater Blau, a venue that has been on my bucket list since it was still called Kater Holzig. It’s home to so many great artists I admire, a place that has long extended its magic beyond Berlin’s borders, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to fill it with my music. 

I’ve been thinking about putting my live set together for a long time, so when the opportunity to premier it at Kater knocked on my door, it was crunch time. 2 months to conceptualize, dissect, render, rehearse - most of that time was spent on figuring out what doesn’t work. Many times I thought about changing to a DJ-Set instead, but ultimately, and last minute as always, I got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of my little garage studio here in Brooklyn all the way to my home country’s capital. 

These two hours on the Heinz Hopper floor went by lightning fast, and it all feels a little dreamlike still. Of course it wouldn’t be a live set without a few hiccups here and there (see if you can spot my „launching a whole scene, instead of just one clip“-mistake in the early part of the set haha), but I think that’s what makes it come alive in the first place. I learned so much from this experience, and got back to my studio/garage with plenty of ideas on how to grow from here. I want this to be a malleable work-in-progress, evolving together with me - unique, non-repeatable, moment-capturing, responsive, alive. 

Thank you to everyone to came out and got hot and sweaty with me on the hottest weekend in Berlin, literally and figuratively. A warm welcome indeed.

Heute mach ich mal ein kleines Special für unsere Freunde von Something Slow aus Berlin. Das Projekt hat sich voll und ganz der langsamen elektronischen Musik verschrieben. Neben ihrem Hawaii Projekt als Isle9 haben sie in meinem Berliner Wohnzimmer-Lieblingsclub Beate Uwe die Something Slow Sonntags-Reihe ins Leben gerufen, die nun aber in die Höhen des Klunkerkranich gezogen ist. Mit einem besonderen Händchen für tolle Musiker wird hier Sonntags ins einer extrem entspannten Runde geschwooft, geplaudert, gekuschelt und den slowen Tönen gelauscht. Neben den schönen Events entsteht hier aber auch ein großes Kollektiv an Musikern die hier ihr Heimat gefunden haben. Ein großer Dank geht hier an Julia die ein ganz wunderbares Händchen für Talente hat … ich finde hier immer wieder Künstler die ich sonst nicht so schnell entdeckt hätte. Danke Julia für deinen Einsatz und die Liebe zur elektronischen Musik.

Mit diesem Set präsentiere ich nun auch einen Künstler aus meiner fränkischen Heimat den es wie so viele andere nach Berlin verschlagen hat. Und das ganze natürlich Live auf Something Slow.

Zu seinem Namen kam HOVER durch Zufall. Aber das war es auch schon. Denn was der Berliner DJ Nacht für Nacht an den Decks tut, hat mit Zufall rein gar nichts zu tun. Er kennt sich aus mit Musik. Er spielt vier Instrumente. Das merkt man. Noch besser kennt er sich aber damit aus, wie man aus Musik Körperbewegungen macht. Und das wiederum, merkt das Publikum. 

Irgendwo zwischen Tech-House, House und Disco findet HOVER genau den Punkt, der bei allen Menschen gute Laune auslöst. Mit diesem Sound hat er sich unter anderem in den Timetables renommierter Berliner Clubs, wie dem Sisyphos, dem Kater Blau und dem KitKat festgespielt. Garantiert kein Zufall. 

Für mich geht er mit den bpm ein gutes Viertel herunter, um auch dem langsamen Teil seines Repertoires Gehör zu verschaffen. Nico vielen Dank für das wunderbar abwechslungsreiche Set mit einer grandiosen Stimmung. Und nun wünsch ich euch viel Freude mit Something Slow.

Sometimes the best sets are the ones that happen in the afterhour, when all you want is one last dance before it's all over :)
Seeing that huge sea of faces in front of me was so moving - all those people with their eyes closed, melancholic but smiling, exhausted yet still moving to the beat. What a view.

Thank you to Nick & Robin from @fernab-berlin for having me and for creating that special atmosphere on the Archipel floor!
