“Speak Again” is Elexa Dawson’s third single since her solo debut album, Music is Medicine. The song began as a pandemic collaboration between Jack Markell (former governor of Delaware) and Elexa, as he sought to work with a Potawatomi musician to compose an arrangement to a poem he’d written and titled “Nine Remain” inspired by Kimmerrer’s Braiding Sweetgrass. “Speak Again” is a call to remembering Indigenous languages “near erased.” Somber and driving, “Speak Again” manages to sparkle with cosmic country depth.

THE NC Music Love Army (NCMLA) includes more than 50 members determined to fight by means of songs and performances by and for the people of NC, spotlighting the moral bankruptcy of policies from the state’s legislature. The NCMLA has issued 14 releases, becoming a soundtrack for social justice and championing the causes and candidates fighting for an inclusive body politic.

“Fibbin’ on Me,” written by travelling Canadian physician Dr. Ben, is a bluesy tale of a lying cheating lover who is making life miserable. But listen carefully to the lyrics, and you’ll realize the song is also about atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat often seen in the emergency department. Dr. Ben wrote this song after a rough shift one evening. The accompanying Youtube video (https://youtu.be/OtiTW68lqk0) features Dr. Ben’s guitar solo analyzed on a cardiac monitor. This is a great song for anyone suffering from a messy relationship, a healthcare professional wanting a good laugh, or music lover who likes cool and quirky guitar riffs.

Dr. Ben [Chan] is a folk-blues recording artist who performs songs of heartache, hope, and healing, based on 30 years of travels as a doctor to almost 100 rural communities across Canada. His music describes his experiences helping people with mental health challenges, addictions and chronic illness, using a mix of intricate fingerpicking guitar styles, soulful blues licks and poignant lyrics. Dr. Ben regularly performs in bars and clubs in the small towns on his travelling doctor schedule. Based in Toronto, Dr. Ben’s side-gigs include university professor and advocate of global health.
