**"Waiting on the World to Change" is the first single released from John Mayer's 2006 studio album, Continuum. The song enjoyed commercial success as a single and won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards. Because of its theme of discontent and hope, it quickly came into demand in a variety of television programs, charity benefits, and other events.

"Waiting on the World to Change" contains a highly popular chord progression often found in blues, rock and soul songs. The chord progression is I - vi - IV - I - V - vi - IV - I, and in the case of "Waiting on the World to Change", it is in the key of D. Another interesting fact is the accenting of the beats in the verses. Contrary to most popular music, the second snare backbeat of the second measure of the two-bar beat that repeats through most of the song features an accent on the "and" of "4", and not directly on "4".

The song's theme centers on the singer and his generation's inaction in regard to current world conditions. However, he attributes this inaction to a lack of power:

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

He also laments the corruption among leaders:

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair

John Mayer confirmed this feeling of discontent between the leaders and that led to an interview with The Advocate, explaining the song this way: "It's saying, ‘Well, I'll just watch American Idol because I know that if I were engaged in changing anything for the better, or the better as I see it, it would go unnoticed or be completely ineffective.' A lot of people have that feeling."[1]

 Even so, the song alludes to hope for the future, with the singer intoning that with his generation's ascension to power, things will change:

One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting

Politics was a topic that Mayer had not previously tackled. On his decision to include a politically tinged song, he commented, "You cannot avoid war in life, you cannot avoid the fear of terrorism, you cannot avoid those things now, they are a part of everyday demeanor. So in that sense it's become more of an acceptable thing to comment on because it's just so much of a white elephant."[2]

Hi, I'm Shaun from North East UK. VARISONIK isn't a band but a solo project that began in early 2022. Back then I had a strong desire to create my own style of alt-rock and alt-pop songs, and found the freedom of going alone is a bonus for creating new songs, as I get to write, compose, play instruments, and produce all of my music and promo videos, which is a lot of work at times but I love doing it. Steve Cohen’s first album was released back in 1997 to critical acclaim from Billboard Magazine, Philadelphia City Paper & The American Society of Musician’s Composer’s & Publishers. The Philadelphia native has since released 10 albums and multiple singles featuring his original songs recorded under his birth name and his alter ego Elton Costello. The music embraces various genres including Singer/Songwriter on “Silent Too Long”: & Rock on “Crazy” where you’ll find a full band with a horn section mastered by Grammy Award winner Glenn Barratt.

A simple Americana influenced Piano/Voice demo written around the time of the 911 attacks named “American Troubadour” found itself embraced by Pandora Radio and played 1,000’s of times (a respectable feat for an album recorded with one mic on a piano).

Steven Sean Cohen released “Summer Jams” in 2013 with a music video by Victor Mignatti for the song “Thinkin’ Bout Leavin’. The album was followed up in 2014 with 4 singles including “Springsteen” a tribute to the artist, “Bradford Country” focusing on the environmental hazards of fracking and “Colorado” in memory of those who continue die to to the mass shooting epidemic.
