Lyrics largely written while descending Helvellyn in the English Lake District amidst the buzz of ascending it via the challenging 'Striding Edge'. The music followed as soon as I got back to my guitar. Flanging out the chords on the piano felt a bit 'Lennon' and the arrangement came from there.

Hey I’m Pat McKenna
 
My music is experimental, and mostly instrumental in nature. Influenced by 70’s and 80s progressive rock (RUSH, Genesis, YES, etc) , blues, jazz, 90s grunge (Alice in Chains. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) and retro electronic music. I have been producing, mixing and mastering my own material a little over 2 years now, I also do song covers now and then.
 
I started playing guitar, bass, and keys at a young age. A few years ago I was in a life altering car accident, and due to physical limitations, I prefer to use MIDI for drums and percussion. Everything else I play on guitar, bass guitar or hardware synths. Im still learning how to properly record, mix, and master my music on my own. Music production is a very enjoyable and therapeutic process for me, and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to listen to, like, repost, and comment on my work.

I am a singer-songwriter originally from Liverpool (yes, that one; home to Cilla, Everton FC and a few other cultural icons) and now living in Kent, near London, UK. I play in a ‘punk n’roll' covers band called the The Oddball 3 and my own songs solo at open mics. I’m a music nerd/geek obsessed with The Beatles and Bowie and like lots more: Costello (btw my ‘Elvis’ moniker is a nickname I picked playing rugby football – I think I started one season with a decent set of sideburns!), Squeeze, R.E.M., Smiths, Roxy, Bolan, Springsteen, Neil Finn etc. Partial to a bit of synth / electronica/ country/ SKA/ reggae/ Motown/Stax soul too – a very eclectic mix of inspirations and influences. I’m a vinyl and CD junkie and overall,  listening to, playing and writing music is my life's passion...... However, I try ,nonetheless, not to take myself too seriously and I do this 100% for fun and while I dream of writing a classic song(s) from which the publishing could allow me to quit the day job (I'm a school teacher) realistically, I have no ambition other than for friends and strangers to give me the privilege of their valuable time to listen to my songs; and, as a bonus, if they like it; maybe click and comment. I record all my stuff on my iPad using Garageband for iOS. Yeah; for sure I could get a better sound if I used X,Y and Z or mixed this up and that down etc. but I'm honestly not really bothered. Generally, I’m lo-fi, vintage, retro, 20th century kind of guy and everything I present here is purely a demo. It is all about the songs and the sound ‘idea’ for me and not the performance. Although I believe that I’m a very competent/experienced, (albeit technically ‘unadventurous’) guitar player; I’ll hold my hands up to a limited singing range and looping and pre-sets save my life given my keyboard skills extend barely beyond being able to flange out chords with one or two not accompanying bass notes. If you want to talk about my (or your) songs that's cool; as is anything geeky/nerdy about any of the artists above or similar. However, please don't get in touch with production tips and suggestions, because in the nicest possible way, I’m not that interested in such things - But I won't be rude if you don't read this first :) More than anything, think it’s really important that artists respect each other’s’ work even if they don’t like or rate it highly. Listening to just one of my tunes tells you nothing about my creative approach, listening to ten of my tunes will still tell you very little, listen to a hundred of my tunes and the penny will start to drop, but it's only after hearing 500+ of my creations and collaborations that your eyes will widen in amazement! 
However, if you don't have unlimited eclectic taste none of that applies, and the reality is, who, in this world, is going to listen to every tune I've created, no one--if even one tune is heard from beginning to end it's a minor miracle, because sadly, there is a belief that unsigned means inferior, but I've heard enough tunes by the rest of you guys to know that's a myth, that's bullshit, we create some of the most inventive, authentic, imaginative tunes out there!
Give me unsigned, independent and underground music over signed, safe, predictable, recipe book, music any day of the week!

Now I don't personally believe I'm in the same league as #Bowie, other than my lyrics, more often than not, making more sense, but I do think I share his ability to adapt to different genres, and his endless, diverse, creativity, just not quite on the same level.

I'm not proficient/accomplished on instruments, & I have other musical limitations, but most genres come natural to me, and I much prefer having that unforced ability to being highly accomplished on instruments, highly polished on production, or having the perfect voice!

Gaz Brown, a singer songwriter and the other half of Conscience Of Kings with producer and multi musician Noobly.  Also I’m  a writing partner for Under This Sun with producer and multi musician Sarge.

I fell back into writing during 2020 after a 20 year absence. I think the hiatus￼ must have done me a world of good as I haven’t stop writing since, with over 70 songs recorded in studio or demo form. It’s just great to be back doing it again and not having to rehearse in sweaty lock ups and constantly playing live. I have the comfort of my own small studio room and do everything remotely
Having previously only ever fronted bands, the most successful one being 90s psychedelic original underground indie band This Elegant Chaos. I finally bothered to learn guitar and keyboard in the past couple of years .I just wish I had bothered when I was 15 as I might be decent by now!
My songs on this page are just born out of being creative and probably don’t sound nothing like my influences unlike the band page on sound-cloud of This Elegant Chaos.

Influences include late 70s new wave, late 80s indie guitar bands and the 90s explosion of ￼￼the Brit pop era and anything else that’s decent, whatever the style. If it’s good it’s just good!

The demo songs have all been recorded on a Boss Mini BR80 that fits in the palm of my hand. 
It’s all my own work except the  collaborations that are listed under Conscience of Kings, Under This Sun & Jeff Roberts. 
Always open to doing any collaborations with other Soundclouders, don’t be shy to ask. 

Conscience Of Kings is an ongoing project with Noobly that is available on streaming platforms. 
The aim is to record enough quality material to produce a full bodied piece of work to release a second album.
