I wrote this song when I was driving from New Orleans to Nashville (where I now live) for the first time. I had started the second leg of a 60 day US tour in my 1983 Dodge Camper Van. My bandmate/boyfriend had just left for another tour and I was on my own for the first time. It was an incredibly freeing feeling. Earlier that same year I had quit my day job working in insurance to do music full time, bought said camper van, and planned this tour. I manifested that exact moment; it was bad ass.

Left Alabama

This song was inspired by a relationship I had that never should’ve happened. One of those situations where you’re just having fun with someone on the weekends and all of the sudden they have a key to your apartment and 7 months later you’re like “what just happened?”. Coincidentally he always wanted me to write a song about him…

Being unable to perform during the pandemic forced Emily to focus on her songwriting more than ever before. It is how she processes, understands, comes to terms with, reflects on and shares her stories.
