New Year. New Mix. More News. As you can tell from the header of this mix I'll  be DJ'ing for Kaelin Ellis, Gat$, Treis and friends next month (Fri, Feb 4th). 
I'm super excited to be playing because Gat$ is one of my friends and we've talked about me DJ'ing for him for some time now and Kaelin Ellis is an amazing producer (featured in several mixes and he produced an album with Lupe Fiasco) and I had the pleasure of watching him perform last month in Tampa's "Rock the Park" (he killed it). So it's great to be providing the music for such great local talent in Florida. Consider this mix a promo/warmup for next month.

Weekly Mixup #39 - LIVE @ LOWRY PARCADE [Part 2/1030pm]

A couple of months ago I was asked if I wanted to DJ an MF DOOM tribute night. I immediately said yes because I felt like it would both be an honor and a challenge to try and make an unforgettable night and mix for the patreons. Little did I truly know what I would be taking on. In the weeks leading into the event, I engrossed myself in all things MF Doom and Hip-Hop and discovered an even larger discography than I was ready for (nervous lol). 

This mix contains mostly MF Doom, his usual (and unusual) villainous collaborating suspects, some Doom from his early Hip-Hop projects KMD, some forgotten MF Doom tunes, MF Doom instrumentals, remixes, and a Mos Def tune here and there (one unreleased).  Call it 95% DOOM!!

I wanted to share this mix because I don't know if I'll ever use these tracks in the future, I'm really proud of it and I think it should be another MF Doom mix out there for the people.

This mix was recorded Live from Lowry Parcade on Friday, 10.13.23 when I was invited back for a 2nd MF Doom Tribute. This mix features everything MF Doom, between the lo-fi's, hi-fi's, remixes, demixes, unreleased, re-released, tracks he's produced, many tracks you've heard and many you haven't (including a few edits from yours truly), additionally I added some interview clips over the instrumentals I played.

Originally I was going to release this on 10/31/23 marking the 3rd Anniversary of Daniel Dumile (aka MF Doom)'s death but I wanted to release it before the weekend got underway. I hope you enjoy it.

Operation Doomsday Vol. 2 - A Tribute to MF Doom

Soundscapes is a mix idea that I've had for a few years now and I wanted to do a test run of some of the songs. This is a not a full mix but a live demo test back from 11/9/23 that I decided to un-private today (12/25/23). 

Like Andre3000's latest album, this type of mix may not be for everyone. However, if you're looking to relax, chill, and zone out this should be right up your alley. If you're familiar with my mixes you can consider the future mix to be a spiritual successor to my "Relax" mix from the Weekly Mixup series.

About the mix: 
Nokin Toro 3, dedicated to one of my best friends “Roderick Nokin” [https://soundcloud.com/rodnokin]. This is a mix that was 5 years in the making (after part 2 in 2018). 5 years in which I took my time to gather the right pieces until it felt complete.
As a rule of thumb, I tend not to release a mix until I believe:
a. I’ve obtained a large amount of quality songs to select
b. The songs work harmonically and cohesively with one another
c. The overall “theme” of the mix can be established 
d. I feel motivated to mix (lol)

So a quick breakdown, what's a Nokin Toro anyways?
My friend used to create a playlist for our friend called “Rafy Poro”, creating up to 3 playlists over the years. I decided one year to make a mix in honor of that idea and thus named it Nokin Toro. Well, here’s the 3rd and “final” Nokin Toro mix. 

This mix was probably one of my most challenging ones to date. I had so many songs and every one that wasn’t used was a certified 3 to 4-star banger lol.  Not to mention the songs I did use had some interesting challenges in mixing them.

Summer Ends

What originally started as a quick and rough overnight bootleg on the morning of Christmas Eve transformed into something more involved. This song mixes Relyae's "Beachside" and Kanye West's "Touch The Sky". I usually keep my bootlegs and remixes for a rainy day or to be played live, but hey its almost Christmas.

This mix was inspired by the night I opened for Slow Magic back in November of last year (2015). 
Its meant to wind you down after a night filled with high energy and slow the pace and atmosphere.

The MixUp: Sunday Vibes - Nujabes & HipHop [11.6.16]

Make Something Sexy 2 is a project that was 5 years in making. 
As the title states, MSS2 is primarily split into 2 sections: Make Up & Break Up songs. 
Where I've previously celebrated various aspects of relationships: From communication, to spending time with your significant other, this time I wanted to explore the aspects of rough patches in a relationship.  

Today (2.14.17) also happens to mark 6 years that I've been DJ'ing and its been an enjoyable experience. One that I hope to continue sharing with you all for the foreseeable future. Let me wrap all this up by saying Happy Valentine's Day, thanks for being patient (waiting 5 years for Part 2) and thanks for continuing to listen after all these years.

The MixUp: RetroWave [11.22.17]

Nujabes.

A name I wont forget. Like many I came to know of him only after watching the anime "Samurai Champloo" and falling in love with the music they used. Only after this was I continously up on every release and mix of his. My favorite being the "Ristorante" mix both side a and side b. What is Ristorante you ask? Its an italian way of saying restaurant. The tagline to his mix was "makin' good beats like cookin' good foods". In memory of my one of my favorite producers I have compiled and mixed just that, good beats by other producers who were either inspired by Jun or have a similar sound to him. He was taken away too early from the world but his memory, his legacy and his soul will forever be felt by those he touched and inspired. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did making it.

Sometime ago I was dating this woman and she was over my place when I was working on one of my monthly mixes. It was at this time that she said she enjoys my monthlys but she literally told me "I want to hear you make something sexy". Even though we're not together anymore that statement sure lit a fire under me and for months I have been collecting music for this mix alone. This has been my little project for a while and what your about to listen to is the result. This mix is several things wrapped into a 114min package, energetic, chill and dance-able. Got something special for you all this week. As you've probably noticed Monday Mixup is now called Weekly Mixup. I received some friendly feedback about MixUp Mondays being misleading by not coming out on Monday's. As such its going to be a weekly mix not limited to Monday. The motivation to make another mix has returned and this week's mix is dedicated to my friends at "The SET".
"The SET" (originally Something Else Thursdays) is a collective of 4 DJ's who create and DJ fresh open format tracks and mixes. Spring Forward

This mix is inspired by and named after DJ Jamad, a DJ who I first discovered in 2004 with his (and Floyd The Locsmif's) Outskirts: The "Unofficial" Lost Outkast Remixes / Mix. From 2004 on I would scour the internet looking for DJ Jamad's mixes and became a consumer of his "Afromentals" Mixes and then the weekly "Afromentals" Mixshow. As a matter of fact I have over 20+ official Afromental mix CD's :). Its safe to say that DJ Jamad falls in the category of "your DJ's favorite DJ". Hope you enjoy the mix, and that Slum Village track is one of Jamad's remixes :).

Weekly Mixup #19 - JAMAD

Exactly 10 Years Ago I released "Digitally Deficient VDay Mix - HipHop x Love - Feb 14 2011" and little did I know that this would begin my journey into DJ'ing. Fast forward to today and I have been blessed to be featured with and play alongside some of the best musical talents from both around world and locally. Many of you have not had the opportunity to listen to my first mix as it was taken down on September 12th, 2012 due to copyright disputes. This mix features several tracks from the 1st (and 2nd HipHopxLove) mixes alongside some new ones. I wanted to both celebrate these mixes and redo some areas using the skills and knowledge I've gained over the years. 

I also want to thank my listeners both new and old who have been here from day one all the way to today and inbetween. Thank you. I originally started making these mixes for me (and I still do lol) but I also do it because its worth it to me if I know I can reach at least one listener. If you remember (or still have a copy of the first 2 mixes, please give this one a listen as its familiar but a new experience.
