Empty Editions is proud to present Eli Keszler’s Last Signs of Speed as our inaugural release. This release, our first vinyl record, has represented a labor of love for both Eli and ourselves.

Last Signs is Eli’s first solo release since 2012’s Catching Net (PAN Records) and explores a very different side of his unique acoustic universe. One in which the macrocosmic percussive collisions of his earlier work give way to a gradual unfolding of dub-influenced rhythmic constellations. Eli has described Last Signs as his response to playing in club environments over the last few years; an attempt to negotiate a delicate balance between the materiality of his acoustic instrument and the hyper-mediated sonic ecosystem of the club sound system. Coming off like an inspired synthesis between Scientist and Xenakis, Last Signs of Speed is a truly unique work by an artist at the height of his powers.

"An obscure tape release discovery by Red Light Radio founder and close friend of the label, Orpheu de Jong, led to Music From Memory’s latest release. This two track 12” highlights the work of electronic music pioneer Joel Graham, a San Francisco based artist who self released two cassettes in 1984/85.  

Originally recorded and performed live on pre-MIDI analogue equipment in 1982 as an outline for a live performance, these visionary tracks provoke much of the same sensibilities found in both contemporary dance music as well as in works of more established vanguard artists of the time. Slowly unravelling and deeply hypnotic, Joel Graham’s music seems to manifest a doorway to a profound new world and can be seen as a forerunner of what was to come in electronic music."

Sara Hausenkamp is a swedish musician/artist born 1989 in Malmö. She started out playing classical guitar as a child and teenager and then went on playing keyboard in different band constellations in her late teenage years/early twenties. 
In 2013 she moved to Berlin and started playing keyboard/guitar/singing in the electro duo "naftik". 

Except from music she also expresses herself through illustrations, collages, photos, writing, painting, fanzine-making etc.. In 2011and 2012 she studied at the school of comic art in Malmö.

"55 Cancri e" is Sara Hausenkamp's solo project that she started in summer 2014. It's night music from outer space. Tunes covered in diamond. Sensitive guitars, crying synthesizers/flutes/wine glasses, organ/melodika and haunting voices.

Compiled by If Music's figurehead Jean-Claude and Adrian Magrys - founder of the London based Polish label Lanquidity Records (Bogowie, Contemporary Noise Quintet, Speakers Corner Quartet) - the six tracks span infectious Polish disco grooves (Wojciech Karolak and Andrzej Korzyński); bustling break-heavy jazz from the Polski Jazz Ensemble and the Russian-born "Prince Igor" Yahilevich; heartwarming spiritual jazz stylings from Hungary's Binder Quintet feat. John Tchicai; and Alojz Bouda's awesome oddball Slovakian synth banger 'Random' from 1980 also features.

"Adrian is known to If Music not only for being a customer and a supplier of quality contemporary jazz, but he is also one of a small handful of world-class go-to peeps when it comes to Eastern European music" explains Jean-Claude. "When the idea for the compilation was originally mooted, and before I had even thought about which direction this album was going to take, I knew that Adrian had to be involved."

Mastered by Barry Grint at Alchemy and cut on heavyweight 180g vinyl. Art direction by longtime friend of If Music - Ali Augur.

Andrzej Korzyński - 'L'Arme Du Milicien – Patkarz'

'ATELIER / FERME' is the debut collaboration between buddies Object Agency and Swim Platførm, as the two combine trumpet, guitar, saxophone and an array of analogue synths on a series sleek, heady instrumentals. 

Recorded in Strasbourg, 'ATELIER' sees pin-sharp found sounds woven amongst cavernous clicks, pops and weirdly synthesised voices to form an addictive, technodelic bricolage. Think Domenique Dumont floating in a sensory deprivation tank, or Joe Hisaishi enjoying a fine wine tasting holiday in Alsace. 

'ALTITUDE 1' is a hypnotic live jam recorded at Swim Platførm's home in Brussels, and features Devon Loch on sax. The 'FERME' sessions of side B, recorded live in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, are all brooding orchestral stabs shot through folds of analogue organ, conjured from a snow-covered cabin. Recommended for fans of To Rococo Rot and Huerco S.

A journey to the moon that began fifteen years ago now reaches another milestone – 15 years, one and a half decades, over 150 individual releases, many many artists, countless professional relationships but also friendships along the way. Many many stories and shared memories – not all of them good, not all of them bad either. While modern space age technology would make it possible to reach the moon’s surface a lot faster, for us it is not only about moving forward as quickly as possible, but also to turn around, look back and around ourselves and to reflect on everything that happened and is happening. This is why we have such a broad range of artists guesting on our latest compilation. Some that have been part of the voyage from its earliest stages, others that have been with us for major milestones along the way, and even more that might move ahead with us into new and unchartered musical regions.

Working with Dave McKean – a true legend, especially for anyone into comic illustrations – wraps up this whole trip in the sweetest way. Not only is it a big honour, but – in a way – it completes the circle, as Dave has been a major influence for the label’s artworks from its earliest beginnings already.

Luckily, we have not crashed into any lunar crater with our listeners. We want to thank you for making this long journey possible and we greatly look forward to celebrating this milestone with our partners, musical family and of course with you, our listeners.

Almost 20 years ago Jürgen De Blonde debuted on KRAAK with the nowadays unfindable and almost visionary album köhn 1. It was the starting point for a vital and wondrous exploration that lead him over paths of glitch, idm, shoe gaze, hypnagogic pop, improvised music, straight forward synth music, field recordings and kraut. 

In the middle of this ungraspable adventure through contemporary electronic music, Köhn stands as a genuine artist that stayed true to the curious spirit of the DIY knob twiddling and boggling boy he once was. 

KRAAK is proud to present his 7th album on KRAAK — Kreis Plön, which documents and envisions 20 years of exploring. It’s an album that is about a fusion of the past and the future, of separation and reconfiguration, of mourning and rejoicing, of noise and peace. Kreis Plön is about geolocation. It’s about probable fiction and looking for bits of different puzzles that fit together. An exercise in linear and perpendicular coherence devoid of any objective logic. 

In the middle of the album an artist is envisioning his place in the Now, questioning how or when he got there, as he links memories to imaginary places, and real places to imaginary histories. Kreis Plön stands as such a masterpiece that bluntly envisions the future of electronic music.
