The new @LucaBacchetti EP, Genesis, comes out on ENDLESS right on the cusp between the Old and New Year. Once again Luca divests himself of all preconceived ideas, taking the project into 4 separate directions, 4 different soundscapes; but maintaining as underlying common denominators the attention to detail that has always distinguished his productions and his unmistakable groove, the poetic dimension and narrative ability always manages to reach its peak in the breaks. Yes, because Luca always takes sound snapshots, sounds that become images, stories that arise from the imagery as always linked to travel and that continues to inspire the Italian DJ and producer: so passionate, deep, never cold. From the African hints in Above the Line to the melodies of the title track, Genesis, bringing us back with its atmosphere to the Middle East. Anaconda could be a journey into the darkness of space, while Fireflies and Crickets
written with The Box (Trio) brings us back to a bucolic dimension we experienced as children. The EP will be released both on vinyl and as a two part digital release.

Summer is here and it's an incredibly hectic time for me, with a heavy schedule of gigs highlighed by a historic 12 hour open to close solo set at Tomorrowland in Belgium, along with finishing the much awaited 2013 city series compilation and working on our special Global DJ Broadcast Sunrise Set and Coldharbour Day.

To get you warmed up for all of that, plus as something to keep my mind occupied while struggling to sleep lately, I've put together another exclusive Soundcloud Summer Mix for you all, this time being 2 hours long. 

Much like the Spring edition, consider it as a mini "best-of" GDJB from the past couple of months, along with a couple of oldies that consistently get requested..

According to your favorite dictionary, Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts. It also happens to be the beating heart behind Three Machines, a passion project that brings together Tarek Majdalani and Sleiman Damien, two of the most celebrated producers and DJs in the Middle East.

One is a veteran of sorts, a driving force that has pioneered the rise of Beirut’s pulsating nightlife and music industry, leaving his mark on the airwaves and on the dance floors, playing the biggest venues in the region and sharing the stage with numerous international acts.

The other is a product of scientific malpractice and classified government mischief, with more major credits and events under his belt than should be allowed by state law for someone who has only recently reached voting age.

The unlikely twosome got together under otherwise normal conditions, through business arrangements and mutual acquaintances. In hindsight, it is absolutely safe to say that the first meeting only happened because the universe got bored with itself and a nuclear disaster seemed like overkill at the time.

Together, they relentlessly churn out intricate systems of sounds that would feel right at home in obscure basements, majestic cathedrals and colossal open spaces alike.

Their music is a soundtrack to the cosmos, an ode to the infinitely small, a celebration of the infinitely big, a study of human nature and all of its complex, beautiful imperfections. Most importantly, it does not conform to any pre-defined genre classification.

The new year kicks off brilliantly for Sonar Kollektiv: April will see the release of “Eigengrau”, the new album by Mius, the project of Hungarian multi-instrumentalist Gergely Almos. Now we are already pampered with a little teaser, the digital single release of “Delusional” (including two exclusive remixes). Dóri Hegyi is one of the five different, stellar female singers Almos conducted to his studio in Budapest. Her voice radiates a therapeutic warmth which elevates the song, even for all its subtle production mastery and its ingenious arrangement, to sing-along hit potential. One of the two remixes is by Holland based Pitto, who already put his abilities to test on Sonar Kollektiv / Virgin with his release “Fly Like A Bird” last year, as well as with reworks for  Jah Wobble presents PJ Higgins and Kasar. This way the track creeps slowly towards the dance floor. Same applies for the remix by Alex Barck and ComixXx, the Berlin based label's brandnew inhouse production dream team. In contrast to Pitto's remix, the two sensitive like-minds leave all the room in the world for Hegyi's voice to unfold and come up trumps with an extra fat bassline you'd love nothing better than to embrace all night long.

Kolors is not your average compilation; the project explores the individual visual perception of color and how that compares to the unique auditory experience of music.

The 15 contributing artists have all chosen a color to define the essence of their track. The selected colors expand the traditional spectrum with on-point specifics like ‘Matt Silver,’ ‘Lunar White’ and ‘Mint Green’. Regardless how many adjectives used, everyone will see these colors differently, and that is exactly the point! The experience of colors, like music, is subjective.

The project’s rich concept adds layered depth and gives listeners an expanded auditory experience. The colors are well considered and one hears the artistic intention behind the labeling.

In a profoundly personal, artistic revelation artists also provided the reasoning behind their selection, evoking instant imagery and placing listeners in the mind of the musician. Of their track, ‘Lunar White’, John Charnis & Jimmy Maheras said, “When we wrote the song the melodies reminded us of the moments in a dark dance floor where people's faces were illuminated, whether by strobe lights and lasers, or the glow of the moon in an outdoor party.” That visual association becomes abundantly clear when one listens to the corresponding music. On ‘Fuchsia’ Dance Spirit say, “’Fuchsia’ is the color of universal harmony and emotional balance and helps to create harmony and balance in every aspect of life. That is what we are trying to attain through the message of this song, and our music in general.”

The album takes listeners on an oculauditory journey through time and space; from Julien Chaptal’s lush and peaceful ‘Orange’ to Doomwork’s moody and introspective ‘Midnight Blue’, the LP tells a story. Kolors features seasoned Supernature artists like Den Ishu (who also releases under Desolat and Noir), Carlos Sanchez (a young gun, blazing the industry by storm, receiving praise from industry veterans like Danny Tanaglia and Richie Hawtin) and Audiofly to name a few- but true to their standard the label focuses on emerging talent. Affirming the strength of the label’s talent pool, even the new family members deliver auditory joy in epic proportions.

New to the imprint, Balcazar & Sordo’s “Blue”, is pure tantric! The track demonstrates beautiful restraint, true energy control, feeding one deep, groovy bass line after another in perfect cadence. On the duo Maceo Plex has been quoted saying, ‘These guys are very close to writing a big hit, I can tell”. Well if they haven’t already this is probably the one. Expect to hear it across dance floors this summer.

This album invites you to experience music differently from everybody else, on your own personal terms, based on your own vision. Art is subjective, what you see may not be what I see, and that is the beauty of it. So sit back, and give it a listen... or 10, stroke your chin and ponder deeply. Unlike most dance albums, or label for that matter, Supernature and Kolors wants you to do more than dance, they want you to think and feel and groove - they want you to experience music on a whole new level.

Full Intention are finally back in 2013 with a stunning EP on Rebirth. Michael Gray and Jon Pearn need no introductions. Spreading their dominating sound for the last 15 years they have been a pioneering force on the global dance music scene.
