Swiss label Phantom Island's second compilation features 5 previously unreleased tracks from the label's roster. The A-side kicks off with L.A.-based Maraschino remixed by Fuga Ronto, a bass-laden treatment that nods to the dancefloor. Second is Zurich's own crooner who is looking for fun: Moreeats, remixed by label co-owner Kejeblos. This is groove-heavy business that will get stuck in your ears. The B-side leads into dreamier realms, starting with CCO (Florin Büchel) in his most cosmic acid outfit. Followed by Ethimm, whose contribution proves his ability to create a romantic genre mix on a carefully arranged mid-tempo tune. The EP is brought to a close by Lexx with a soothing instrumental that will take you safely through a gentle drizzle of rain. The cover artwork by artist Anna Hilti is a depiction of 6 orchid species that are in danger of extinction in Switzerland. Uncommon species for sure!

In the previous episode, the Vibracid technique was discovered as a way to deactivate memories imposed by technocratic elites.

Now, with VIBRACID 2, its real deployment begins: a series of sonic attacks targeting control systems through rave vibrations.

Each track is a weapon. Each producer, a node of resistance. “Vibracid Advent,” the single that launched the assault, opens the mini album with acidic force — delivering the first sonic strike that breaks through imposed control. From the acidic and powerful aggression of Calagad 13 (Spain), through the modular precision and acid techno of C.C.O (Contra Communem Opinionem, Switzerland), to the dark, industrial electro of Mokotron (New Zealand). Atix brings the French 90s rave energy; Wicked Wes, from Florida (USA), builds grooves with bifasic rhythms and glitch textures; and Romphea (Greece) closes with distorted breaks exploring chaos and sonic escape.

Careful sound and mastering, and exceptional design for a limited edition of 150 copies on solid red vinyl.

As luck would have it, he was pretty keen on the idea as well as dug himself away in his studio nest to emerge not too much later with a two hour mix filled with some of the finest sounds this side of the sun. Eastern percussion and keys mix perfectly with house pads and ambient chords on this beautiful balearic piece of music that grows in the nicest and most organic way possible. This promising track is backed up on the release by two great versions from Ilija Rudman and Robot 84. Out soon !

One of this staffers most favoured labels is Beachcoma, and next up is a three tracker from Norwell. Based in Budapest, he had releases on Rotterdam's Pinkman and Shabu Recordings in 2016. 'Citadel' kicks off like New Order's 'Sunrise', before some off-key modulation, lo-fi drums and high freqs ping it elsewhere. Delicately layered and intensely intriguing, slightly Holden-esque and quite beautifully sad, yet adamant.

In the world today there are very few uninhabited areas which formerly had been inhabited by human beings. In Argentina there is one. The southeast of the Great Island of Tierra del Fuego, on the Atlantic coast has been uninhabited since the last century, when a people called the Haush “disappeared”. Hardly anyone goes there except crews or passengers of ships which occasionally anchor in its bays. The last commercial seal hunters abandoned the region years ago. The Haush were known for their Hain ceremonies, the indigenous landscape of their forbidding land was harsh and unforgiving and this the soundtrack.

Bernardo Barrera & Estuardo Flores are two guys from Guadalajara, México. Having released EPs on Wonder Stories (NYC) and Logical Records (Madrid), they teamed up with Emerald & Doreen for „ Hain“ - a fat bassline whirlwind tour through tribal nu disco, acid, dark disco, chug & techno sounds.

'December' is the first single from Yumi Zouma's sophomore album, Willowbank, out October 6, 2017 on Cascine.

Just over a year after releasing their lauded debut LP, Yoncalla, Yumi Zouma return with Willowbank, the band’s sophomore album. For the making of Willowbank, Yumi Zouma's members — Charlie Ryder, Josh Burgess, Christie Simpson and Sam Perry — settled on a plan to reunite for the New Zealand summer. To complete what would become their first significant work written and recorded entirely in their home country, they rented a studio in Christchurch’s semi-demolished CBD, on one of the few remaining blocks that still characterizes the city from before it was destroyed by a series of earthquakes. “It was as though there was a brief pause in all of our lives and we finally felt like a band from New Zealand,” said Burgess. “We were on home turf and creating from a place that felt fundamentally natural.” When you know it’s there, the feeling of rootedness is undeniable on Willowbank. Being connected to their origins on the bottom of the earth allowed the band’s members to craft another essential chapter in the Yumi Zouma storybook.

Hailing from Chicago and Melbourne, Australia respectively, Kevin Pariso and Joel Witenberg together make up the Brooklyn duo, Surf Rock is Dead.  Embodying the beachiness of their namesake's genre through a new wave filter, the band have spent the last two years crafting an infectious brand of dream-pop in the vein of Diiv, Day Wave, and Beach Fossils.

“The phrase ‘we have no friends’ is a running joke and half-truth between the band.” Says Pariso about the namesake of the EP. “When we formed the project we would spend late weekend nights jamming and writing music instead of spending it out with friends. Putting time into a creative project definitely can hamper your social life but the idea is that the fruit it bears will be worth the sacrifices.”  

Those sacrifices paid off when the band went to record, using music as a way to escape the day-to-day grind and hot NYC summers. Ultimately, the duo was able to build off each other from similar shared experiences to turn song and lyric ideas into the anthemic dream-pop of the five-song EP. 

‘We Have No Friends?’ will be released September 22 on both vinyl, and digital formats. Vinyl versions include their debut 'SRiD' EP on the b-side.
