After we found grandma’s belonging and her souvenirs in an old wood trunk, we found Grandpa’s safe. Thank god, Grandpa had the bad habit of using his birthday date as a combination and password on his Commodore 64. We expected to find some old money, a nice leather photo album of his adventures in the deep see and the fish he captured in the Caribbean Sea with his friend Charlie Walton, which we never met by the way. However, we did not expect to find this insurance policy on grandpa’s life and the recipient of the insurance being Charlotte Walton.

Hit the ground crawling, seems a thousand years ago,
Ever since been falling down, no place I called home.
Now the tides of time are rising, waters lapping high,
No sense in compromising when you’ve no need for goodbyes.

Would have made peace with the Lord, if only I could find him,
Never did return my calls, guess he’s time a-bidin’.
So I figured as I’m all alone, and ever so shall be,
Grind my boots down to the bone, walking to my destiny.

But I’ll paint the clouds before I go, 
Though where I’m headed heaven knows,
Never prayed for guidance then, too late for it now.
Bloodshot eyes meet rising sun, 
No surprise I’m moving on,
Oftentimes, two can be a crowd.
Guess I was never bound for glory painting clouds.

At my silhouetted bridge of sighs, pause to catch the river air,
Reflecting on a life slipped by, meet my solitary stare.
So I’ll lay me ‘neath the willows at the babbled brook-side edge,
Mossy rock eternal pillow, sand my final bed.

But I’ll paint the clouds before I go, 
Though where I’m headed heaven knows,
Never prayed for guidance then, too late for it now.
