The Town Where I'm Livin' Now

Rodolfo Planes offered me this great arrangement and suggested the title of 'Professional Liars' as a starting point. I changed the title to Career Liars as it scanned better with the melody and although we didn’t discuss the subject closely we both had our own ideas who these usual suspects might be. You all may also have your own choices other than these potential ‘Comeback Kids’. 

This was first written in 2022, but has developed gradually over the last two years with Ce Mastro’s spectacular chorus harmony arrangement lifting the song to astonishing new heights, then lastly Georg’s additional sax work giving a renewed energy and power. Thanks to everyone for their valued collaboration on this. Thanks for taking the time to listen.

When The Eyes Close

Made using Only the free Crowhill Vaults instrument plugins, and nothing else except effects. For the CrowHill music competition of June ‘24. Thinking of doing an additional version perhaps with more gaps in percussion and things like that as I feel it’s a bit OTT here, but pretty happy with the vibe of it😎 I used effects to try and sculpt unique sounds from the vaults and used lots of layering as well. The main challenges were getting the  multiple instances to not produce too much room / reverb sound on top of each other and things like that.  A lot of distortion effects and warps like flangers phasers echos delays etc were used. This was mixed with clean instances of the vaults as well for contrast. Also harsh eq profiles on further instances to try and find ways to put missing frequency content into the mix.

Tom again approached me with a beautiful piano melody and an initial arrangement that he hoped I’d add lyrics and vocals. Shortly afterwards, Jussi gave the whole thing a wonderful rhythm and the first lead guitar you will hear.  Tom once again had the great idea to ask Hidefumi to complete the song with a powerful guitar solo in the coda. For the Crow Hill Company composing challenge, December 2024 - the prompt was to write a wintry piece featuring the latest Crow Hill Vaults instrument, "Wavering Choir".

The weather here today is fantastic. Cloudless blue sky, hot sun and strong warm breeze. I thought I would share with you the sound of the wind today in the cedar tree that I am fortunate to have in my garden and I stuck some piano improv on top. Probably the quickest track I've made in my life. Sometimes less is more. I hope your weekend is also as beautiful as my day here is today. Thank you for listening.
