Samurai Music presents it's 100th Vinyl Release with Hyaku

The medium is the message! Vinyl has always been our preferred medium for releasing music and without this tactile form of presentation, Samurai Music would not continue in its current form. Vinyl is the ultimate personification of what the label wishes to represent. Music always comes first, but the vinyl artefact is king for us.

Hyaku is the 100th Vinyl release on the Samurai Music label. Through the many twists and turns of the industry in our almost 17 years of existence, the Samurai Music vinyl releases have maintained their aspiration for quality, unique design that stands the test of time. Praise and thanks always to our long time designer Ryan Quinlivan and the many pressing plants we have worked with over the course of our labels lifespan.

To celebrate this milestone we have assembled a gang of producers that best represent the Samurai Music sound of now to contribute tracks that they feel best encapsulates their take on our sound.

Human Synthetics returns to the label for the 8th installment from Dream Schemes. A mixed release with tracks for home or the dancefloor, plus a bonus remix of Leisure Centre from Repertoire’s own Law.

A side - Reality Function - is a dreamy sci-fi fuelled track that almost made an appearance on his first release with us. This one is about what you would expect from HS, tight production, choppy breaks, wavey synth lines, and deep rolling baselines.

B side - Renegade - shows HS turning up the heat a little. While still deep and atmospheric, this one comes packed with well thought out call and response across the bass section, and a second drop that would get people moving in any situation.

Bonus track - Leisure Centre (Law Remix) - sees Law drop in and deliver a stripped back, steppa take, on the much loved Leisure Centre - a track from our first ever release. Perfect for all occasions, this one will spin listeners around with crisp drum programming, hypnotic melody lines, and big bouncy bass.

Welcome to the underground of the Portuguese underground. Not necessarily the oldest members, but at least among the most active and the most honest, because WTVR and 451F are the kind of artists who are involved, not to say committed, in their artistic approach and in all their cultural activism. Whether it's a career as a “pyromaniac” visual artist or one made up of encounters and accidents, these two producers certainly share a desire to defy the boundaries between genres, both thirsting for sonic experimentation.

So, is it still footwork? Is it still jungle? Or halftime? Or breakcore? Not really... and a bit of all that at the same time. And that's what makes this production so interesting. So, let's experiment!
