Swedish producer, DJ and Envelope Audio label boss Nikki Pryke delivers her debut album ‘Connection’ via the imprint this November, heavily influenced by electronic pop from the 80’s and early 90’s throughout.
Residing in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, Nikki Pryke has been a staple of the music scene in her home country predominantly under her guise of Lioness which has seen her DJ alongside the likes of Ron Trent and Âme and unveil an array of material ranging from Techno to Ambient and more. Here though, under her own name, Nikki Pryke takes a divergent path and delivers a project which aesthetically leans more towards pop, nu-disco and indie.
In Nikki’s own words ‘’The artistic vision for the album was to create a sonic prism on the theme of love and connection, dressed in an electronic pop suit from the late 80’s/early 90’s. With a direct approach, the album takes the listener by the hand on a vulnerable journey through longing, blissful infatuation, complexity and contradictions, all the way through the universal love felt for an unborn child.’’
Across the nine-track collection, Pryke explores an amalgamation of styles from the the cinematic and textural ‘Intro’, aptly titled ‘Drone’ and ‘Song For Lula’ through to the psychedelia infused ‘Fear & Freedom’ and enchantingly catchy pop leaning ‘Hey Boy’. Also on offer are haunting, folk like compositions such as ‘Sorrow’ and ‘Hymn’, while ‘Mating’ and ‘Connection’ see Nikki lean into more classic electronica tropes with heavy doses of sub bass,
intricately programmed rhythms and dynamically unfolding synth work all intertwined with her own ethereal vocals.

Oscillate Tracks 003 is the first split EP featuring resident Johanna Knutsson and alumni Karen Gwyer. The two performed together early last year, Karen live with her shimmering textures before Johanna introduced her bleepy tales. Their musical affinity was easily recognisable and our aim was to bring their dynamic connection from one fleeting experience onto the enduring form of a record. 

On Johanna’s side, the Swedish producer plays with tempo and panning, constructing vast soundscapes on the backdrop of a dubbed-out alternating bass drum with refrains from her Nord synth rippling throughout. On the flip we find Karen exploring melancholic ambient IDM, layering sparkling notes over lush melodies interlaced with rapid percussions, forming utterly exquisite works of art.

As a producer, vocalist and DJ, Tokyo-based @sapphire-slows has a sound that is both indelible and difficult to neatly categorise. Taking cues from minimal, electronica, ambient and off-kilter pop, her own music feels greater than the sum of these parts, combining an unerring sense for space, detail and atmosphere with slow-motion melodies and heady, cosmic vocals to create something personal and truly unique.  

Since starting to produce music in her bedroom in 2011, Sapphire Slows has released an impressive body of work, with LPs, EPs, tracks and remixes coming out on the likes of @not-not-fun-1, @100percentsilk, Kaleidoscope, @nous-disques, @kalaharioystercult, ninih (@ye_yeh) and most recently @ad93rec.	

As a live performer and DJ, she has been similarly prolific, with numerous European tours under her belt, along with regular showings in China, Australia, the US and naturally, her home country of Japan. The diversity of artists with which she has shared the stage (from Lena Willikens, Objekt, Svreca and Ben UFO to Laurent Garnier and The xx) is revealing, and further proof of the chameleonic qualities of her music.

Recently recorded at OATH in Tokyo, Sapphire Slows’ Patterns of Perception 79 is a warm, carefully crafted and kaleidoscopic narrative that perfectly captures the many shades of her unique sound. Flitting between cinematic ambient soundscapes, emotive vocals and breezy after-hours energy, these 59 minutes sway comfortably across dappled layers of sunlight and shade, finding a solid underpinning in the swelling melodies and textural layers that are so tightly linked with her own visions.

Johanna Knutsson debuted as a DJ on the vivid nightlife scene of Berlin towards the end of the 00’s. Built on a foundation of techno, her sets are on the emotive side of the spectrum. Johanna moves around effortlessly between genres; riding on rhythms, drums and sounds; incorporating hard-hitting house, acid, breakbeat and electro - a fantasy of spacey, deep, hard uncompromising music sans aggression. She creates a landscape for you to travel into with her, whether it is a soaring BPM-trip or a soothing private carpet ride, she wants you to feel comfortable and grounded. She connects with you and sees her set as a wordless interaction where energy and motion fluxes freely.

Envelope Audio started out in 2017 with the aim of inviting artists and listeners to explore new musical ground within electronic music, being a foundation for new constellations in sound releasing prolific artists with an unique expression, such as the late Alland Byallo, Fjäder and Johanna Knutsson.
