𓂀 Having played all the dance floors in their hometown of Toronto, which includes supporting international acts such as Eli & Fur, Maya Jane Coles, Audiofly, Dennis Ferrer, Bedouin and Ame, has not only developed their reputation as both support and peak time artists, but also earned them their place in the dance music community and helped develop a loyal fan base. Continuing our new mix Series is Martin Broszeit from Germany.

Martin is an insider Tip and Local DJ Longplayer from Hamburg in Germany.

Martin Broszeit aka Phoenix, was born in 1972. He started spinning at the age of 17 Hip Hop and Hip House. Now the Man is into Deep & Organic House, Mellow Techno & Lounge Music.

He has been Resident DJ @ Pleasure Dome Hamburg 1995-2000, TrancePort Hamburg 1998-2001, Cosmic Club Lübeck 1996-2022, Phonodrome Hamburg 2001 -2003, Clouds Hamburg 2015-2019 and Tortue Hotel 2018-2022.

B-Sides
Dance Promotion Manager of Kontor Records & Universal Music from 2000-2004.
From 2019-2020 music director @ Accenta Music.

In 2001, he formed B-Sides of his Manager Job “Smart System” together with his production mate Chopstick (now a days Labelowner of Suol Music).
One of their tunes found its place on Tiesto’s “Nyana” compilation.
Two more tunes were signed by Germany’s Progressive House veteran Oliver Moldan.
German Dance Charts #1 with Remix of Sister Sledge "We lost in Music".

Martin plays 2020 first time live on Ibiza Global TV. DJ Sets on Ibiza Global Radio, Deep Vibe FM und Skywalker FM.

Boasting more than a decade of experience releasing music, Pablo Bolívar is a name familiar to most in the underground circuit of Dance music. Born in Santander, Spain, in 1981, he took his first steps into the music business by studying Sound Engineering at Barcelona’s Crash institute, then working as an engineer for a number of years following his graduation in 1998.

After a while, Pablo began working at one of Spain’s most recognised Electronic imprints, Decoder Muzique. Following this, in 2006 he released his debut LP via Barcelona label Regular, entitled ‘Anjanas’. The 11-track album showcased his melodic, hypnotic and intriguing style of Techno that has over the years become synonymous with his name, panning between ambient sections and tougher, more club-driven moments with a real maturity and understanding of music that only comes from studying the art at its core.

In 2009, Pablo released his critically acclaimed and personal favourite LP, ‘Recall’, also via Regular. The album saw him once again nod to past influences such as Heiko Laux and his Kanzleramt label as well as other German imprints such as Chain Reaction, but also was deeply inspired by the passing of his father.

Since then, the Spaniard has gone from strength to strength, with further releases on Regular, as well as on Curle Recordings, Galaktika Records, Desolat, Justified Cause as well as via his own labels, Seven Villas and Avantroots, also remixing the likes of Gui Boratto, Mario Basanov, When Saints Go Machine, Gorge, Parov Stelar or Juana Molina to name a few.

As well as a number of excellent studio releases, Pablo has utilised his background as a sound engineer to help produce for a number of other musicians, including for Hirotaka Miyamoto’s LP ‘Circles’ and Maurice Aymard’s album ‘Between the Stars’. Furthermore, Pablo has continued to manage and release other artist’s music on his labels Avantroots (established 2009 and co-managed by Sergio Sanz) and Seven Villas (established 2014).

Outside of music production, the gifted Spaniard has built up a reputation for his meticulously crafted DJ performances, combining his own mesmerising Techno cuts with records unearthed from his regular excursions crate digging as well as from other artists such as Move D, Soulphiction, I:Cube and Vakula – modern names that he is a big personal fan of.

Looking ahead and Pablo shows little signs of slowly down his ambitious workload, with planned releases on labels such as Endless, Culprit, Moodmusic and Peppermint Jam as well as many other projects in the pipeline. He’ll also continue running his two labels, as well as touring internationally. Keep an eye out for more output from one of Spain’s most exciting talents.

Joe Miller is an English-born beatmonger, influenced in equal measure by heaving clubs and the earthy melancholy of forests. He grew up in Australia, where he learned to craft sets that are whimsical and left-field, evoking a sense of place.

Joe has released music on Dream Culture, All Day I Dream (with Jamie Stevens), L’enfant terrible, Traum Schallplatten and Manual Music, with support from Guy J, James Grant, Robert Babicz, Lane 8, Nora en Pure, Anthony Pappa, Gab Rhome, Pablo Bolivar, YokoO, Danny Tenaglia, Tone Depth, Chris Fortier and Love Over Entropy.

Recently, Joe has contributed mixes to Bespoke Musik, Magician on Duty, Deeper Sounds (streaming on British Airways flights), Moodroom Collective, Dream Culture’s Dreamcast series, Electronic Groove (with Jamie Stevens), bloop London and Fiction Lab. His 2019 schedule includes dates in New York (Bespoke Musik) and Miami (Do Not Sit on the Furniture), as well as releases on Magician on Duty, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Sag & Tre.

Canopy Sounds 53: Joe Miller

It’s been a real honour to put this mix together, a cathartic and healing process that culminated in me playing music on the property I grew up on and love dearly.

Finding motivation and inspiration for music in 2020 has not been easy, especially being based in Melbourne. When I was asked to put together this mix I found it hard to piece together what I wanted to get out of this it.

Having been in lockdown for months I could not stomach the idea of recording this in my house, I needed something to play for. 

That is when I first pictured recording this set at my parents property, the place I grew up, a place where every tree I helped plant, where every fence post I helped dig in... a place that I love more every time I go back. 

This mix is a love letter to that place, filled with gratitude to the land, my parents, and the man I’ve become from growing up there.
