This track is a tribute to Nick Drake.  He was a great artist who died way too young--and who influenced our music a lot.

Mark and I wrote this song in 2004.  The lyrics were about my girlfriend at the time ... who is now my wife and mother of our three children.

Simple Love

The style of these four songs were all inspired by the Anders/O'Bitz/Butler single from 2020, "Careful Now My Son," which music critic Will Oliver wrote this about: “Careful Now My Son" captures a folk and country-themed rock sound that takes the inner-turmoil of the past year and captures it in a fashion that feels raw and passionate." 

The four songs on Contrapasso are more a reflection on the cultishness of Trumpism in addition to America's original sin of slavery--two very connected aspects of America's present and past.  The MAGA cult could be considered the New Confederacy.

This EP features the amazing production and musicianship of Mike Butler who, in addition to producing and mixing, plays almost all of the instruments.  Eric and Mark are very grateful to have worked with Mike since American Bardo.

Northern Californian singer-songwriter, Eric Anders, and southern Californian guitarist-composer, Mark O’Bitz, have released at least a full-length album every year since 2018.  

Eric and Mark are in the process of releasing a 30-song collection called "music in the time of coronavirus" (MTC).  "Careful Now My Son" was the first release in lat 2020.  Sirens Go By was the first MTC album, released in early 2021.  Stuck Inside and Variant Blues are the second and third MTC albums, both released in late 2021.

They recently released their single, "Searise."  The "Searise" music video was made by Basque artist Joseba Elorza (Greenday).

The duo released their twelve-song concept album, AMERICAN BARDO, in the summer of 2020.  AMERICAN BARDO was listed in Popmatters' top 50 albums for 2020.
