Rinnovare is the project of BC artist Matteo Neufeld. Despite the challenges that came with 2020, he graced the year with many releases. Accompanied on strings by partner Chloe Davidson, and production engineering form Andrew Judah. The first being his modern-classical / dream pop EP titled Aperturia. The next was a double single release with label Ambientologist, from the Netherlands. Followed after that was Rinnovare's re - release of his long sought-after record Suspended Animation. This being an album that was traced around many countries, over the span of six years. It evolved into being a dense, rhythmic & reflective collection of modern-classical, post-rock and ambient hybrid. During the summer of 2020, Rinnovare began to write & record Held Under All, the upcoming record being released on Shimmering Moods Records, from Amsterdam. This is Rinnovare's most nuanced, minimalist, calming & seductive album to date. Featuring acclaimed artist collaborations such as Benoît Pioulard, Voga & Bedroom, a cohesive & sprawling display of wash, texture & beauty has been manifested here. Mixed by Slow Meadow, and mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri, Rinnovare has continuously pursued crystal clear production aesthetic, contrasted with raw & organic atmosphere all over.

The 'icon of post-everything', Mike Cooper, returns to Discrepant with a recording of a live set recorded at the Controindicazioni Festival of Improvised Music in Rome in 2003 .
The music moves very slowly through four movements: ‘’Reluctant Swimmer’’, ‘’Movies is Magic’’, Virtual Swimmer’’ and ‘’Dolphins’’. 

Mike Cooper says 'the first half is played on my old 1920s National tri-plate lapsteel guitar and the second half on my vietnamese electric lap steel. I also sing two songs along the way. ‘’Movies is Magic’’ by Van Dyke Parks and “Dolphins” by Freid Neil. It was the first time I had ever sung the last song.'

Teengirl Fantasy, the duo of Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss, return with ‘8AM’, their first full-length since 2012’s ‘Tracer’. ‘8AM’ is music that replicates that headspace when you’ve seen the sun come up, but sleep is still way off. It’s music of the in-between time, between tonight and tomorrow, when you’re not ready to let the feeling of right here and right now go. Your body is spent, but your spirit holds on to the memory. A new energy or a different route.
 
The album takes the dream-state of Teengirl Fantasy’s 2010 album ‘7AM’ deep into the next day, stretching ambient themes in multiple directions, scattering with the morning light.
 
‘8AM’ is Teengirl Fantasy’s most introspective and abstracted work so far. It still pulses with the muscle memory of house and disco, slow-motion sub bass, chiming synth melodies, and the airy, perfumed chords of early techno, but takes a line of flight away from songs, immersing the listener in a gently invigorating space. Pieced together from evocative fragments and longer beat-driven tracks, the music is melodic and dreamy, yet sharp and clear. The only vocal comes from Khalif Jones (f.k.a. Le1f) who draws the album back from its gentle turbulence into a time and place on 'Seeds’. ‘8AM’ places the listener in a chilled delirium; one saturated with light, like when the glare from the sun’s too bright but you can’t stop squinting at it.

"Homeward" deals with the symbolic power of the unconscious, seen as a vessel of images and memories shared by human beings from the beginning of their history as a species. The instinctual connection with nature and its processes plunges our dreams into worlds ran by ourselves, yet so unpredictable for our consciousness. 
From a sonic perspective, the possibility of manipulating sound in ways that extend its temporal perception and brings to the surface its internal movements became the instrument to mirror the relation between the unconscious portraits of the experience and the conscious mind made up of formal structures. 

From the conceptual/technical side, each track of the album was made using one sample (per track) lasting 30 seconds each and taken from eight different "classical" music pieces. Each sample was then mangled using granular techniques in two different ways: the former created the long sustained evolving tones; the latter created the single, shorter and brighter tones obtained playing chopped parts of the samples. The idea of using classical music material has been taken also in order to "evoke" those historical periods in some sonic way whose timbral qualities can be used as another layer of shared collective perceptual memories. 

Michele Andreotti studies Electroacoustic Composition at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome. As a student, he attends several workshops organized by key figures of the international electronic scene, such as John Chowning and Curtis Roads. In 2017, together with Ivano Pecorini, he released a record titled "Rivera", under the name Curved Grooves, with the roman label Stochastic Resonance. In 2018 he begins to work on the association of electronic sounds and visual material, in particular silent movies, with soundtracks which underpin the will to reveal new relationships between audio and video. In 2019 he gets the three-year degree in Electroacoustic Composition with an analytic thesis about the work of Phill Niblock, and the centrality of perception which distinguishes the whole U.S. composition scene.

Michele Andreotti - In My Beginning Is My End

A rare solo set from composer, percussionist and sound artist Susie Ibarra. 

"Rhythm Cycles is a drum solo that I consider as a performance meditation. I love to perform this piece as it is possible to always arrive at new places while returning to familiar cycles that make so much sense to me. This piece is constructed to weave through certain tempos and hit points during a solo performance that arrive at melodies and textures and phrases grounded in specific rhythms and polyrhythms. The piece cycles through each of these sections and allows me to improvise through a flexible structure, sometimes returning to a section at moments and other times moving forward to create a new rhythmic environment.
