For over a decade, Los Angeles based long-time friends Derek Anderson and Scott Land have dominated the bass music landscape. Known together as SLANDER, the pair have been at the forefront of bass music’s evolution with continuous smash records, sold-out shows and consistently raising the bar with a non-stop touring schedule and discography that now features fifty releases.

SLANDER released a single titled ‘Before Dawn’ in 2022, marking a departure from their usual sound. In 2023, that evolution took shape, as they introduced a new techno-inspired alias: Before Dawn.

Rather than signalling a shift away from SLANDER, Before Dawn represents a new creative outlet. The project debuted at select after-hours sets, including their own ‘Starbase’ Festival in Southern California, and standout performances at Burning Man, EDC Las Vegas, Space Miami and The Midway SF. Derek and Scott officially introduced the alias with a sunrise set at EDC Last Vegas in May 2023 to most recently selling out the official Project Glow afterparty at Soundcheck in May 2025.

Derek and Scoot are now gearing up for their debut release titled ‘Reborn EP’ on Eli Brown’s Arcane Records on the 1st of August. With the remix pack due in September to include reworks from artists including Victor Ruiz, Charles D and NoNameLeft.
The dark intro on ‘Reborn’ brings with it an ominous ambience that lingers and escalates as the central beat begins to clap. Beyond this shadowy inception, a grim clutch of click- clacking hi-hats and corroding synths bluntly loop together making for an unsettling signal of intent for the bass maestro’s techno inauguration.

Succeeding the EP’s opener, ‘With Me’ is with SampliFire, a bass and modern dubstep producer who balances riddims and heavier bass with bib 808’s and drops, bagging him
earlier collaborations with Marshmello, Svdden Death, Kayzo and Wooli. ‘With Me’ is a delicious slice of darkened, warehouse techno. When a swarm of yawning bass chords and hoover like effects scatter after the initial breakdown, a baritone vocal begins to murmur before abandoning the melody to usher in a densely packed groove and metronomic stab that chops at the melody before abruptly coming to an end.
The third collaboration, ‘Spiral Eyes’ weaves into being by way of feral kicks, decayed strings and probing bass synth. A crescendo of deformed melodies then begin to uncoil as a despotic vocal revolves monotonously whilst the beat churns away until it eventually succumbs to a close. The single is a collaboration with Former, a Dutch producer who’s mainly released on Vision Recordings where he has numerous collaborations with Sleepnet and Ring Noord.

Before Dawn’s ‘Reborn EP’ will be released on Eli Brown’s Arcane on the 1st of August with a remix pack to follow in September.



BCCO Premiere: Before Dawn- Spiral Eyes [ARC077]

Brooklyn-based BRÄLLE is a creative project forged from both fear and necessity. Before stepping into the techno scene with 2017’s ‘Dream State’, BRÄLLE spent nearly a decade composing and touring in the underground Death Metal and Hardcore worlds. Even after leaving that environment, the drive to produce visceral and emotive music remained, leading to the birth of BRÄLLE. This background gives BRÄLLE a distinct vantage point on the global electronic music landscape, operating outside of typical cliques and trends. With releases on labels like Soma, Mindtrip, Evilgroove, and NewRhythmic, the project’s sound is swarming, psychedelic, and resolutely modern. BRÄLLE’s tracks intertwine stark, visceral percussion with forward-thinking granular sound design, blending a primal core with a futuristic ethos. Born from personal adversity, the music embodies both tension and release, and a continual search for hope.

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.
