After All These Years (Remaster)

Most songwriters write songs about love, peace, happiness, anger, sadness and despair.......They write from the perspective of self or observation This new composition comes from observation with themes of sadness and despair. I can understand why many would not want to listen, but as a songwriter I have to write about what I am feeling and thinking about at the moment whether people like it or not. Since I returned to social media to promote some of my music I have found a very sad world. Lots of lost souls and self-absorbed and narcissistic people. I am not sure of the value of social media in society. I know it provides an outlet for those whom are alone and are socially isolated ,but it is not a replacement for human contact. Most humans want to be happy and free of physical and emotional pain, but I do not believe social media is going to make one  happier over the long term. The reality is that most people do not care about you, only your closest friends and family do and when that does not exist one suffers tremendous sadness, despair and emotional pain.

Coming back from Spain in early January my memories were full of the great sites and flamenco musicians I had seen. So I picked up my Flamenco guitar again and recorded this track. A blend of Granaína, a flamenco style from Granada, and Bolero. The opening is a solo improvisation after which the track begins with two guitars trading off. Hope you'll enjoy!

I found this ratchet handle does a decent job on slide so used it for this tune.
Bass from my Kona dreadnought and 1928 Gibson A2 mandolin, 
slide on 1945 Martin 0-18, with first string missing, small E, Too lazy to put new one on so tried slide with only 5 strings, interesting doing it that way.

on this darkest night
and i'm thinking back to when
nothing was right

felt like i'd sold my soul to the 
devil himself and i didn't know
felt like i was digging a grave
'gainst this high wall

i didn't know what i had gotten myself into
and none of my pride has kicked in
little intuition, too
but everybody kept telling me
"don't overthink it, baby"

oh, you were so charming
so everything at the beginning
you had such a charming smile
you were a little rough, little rough & tumble

but i should've seen those eyes 
were dancing with fire in your soul
oh, an anger that you just couldn't quench
with anything lovable
no, nothing lovable

and i wasn't sure what i would do
getting in cahoots with you
felt my soul was starting to,
starting to feel something new

oh, i could feel that ancient beast
