Gated's second compilation takes inspiration from the path less travelled, the earthen underbelly that binds disparate threads to its wonky centre.

So while the music here is from artists all over the world, each track is grounded in a quirky, off-kilter sound, from the opener by UK hardware house don @perseus-traxx to the closer by Space Agent, the alias of a yet-to-be unveiled techno artist.

In between we get Gated stalwarts @guavid, @polyseme, @acidulant, and @LloydStellar with their takes on the wonk, plus glassy-eyed electro from Austin, USA-based @collinsullivan, unusually banging fare from man of the moment @MOY, and broken techno from the criminally under-appreciated @StacieAnneChu.

There's also the reissued and remastered sub-bass squelcher Beta Carotene by @modifiedsounds, which was originally released in 1998 on UK breaks label Slalom.

Igor Gusev is one of the most famous contemporary Ukrainian artists. For the last decade, he has been one of the brightest Ukrainian artists working in the multidisciplinary plane, the initiator of the last, in our opinion, really topical art statement of the Odesa art scene called "Art Raiders" and many other art projects.

So, we are happy to present the release of Artist Gusev's "The Tairovo Brothers" which was recorded in the year 2000!
Initially, this release was conceived by the artist as a full-length album of 14 tracks, which maximally exposed the atmosphere of the then Odessa art environment and urban vibe. However, due to various life collisions, the main part of the album was lost, and the four tracks that make up the release "Tairov Brothers" were left. This material was created between '97 and 2000. Vocals were recorded at the beginning of the 2000s in Odessa at Prosto Radio Studio when the artist worked in a media holding company and had access to a professional studio. The vocal part is a very important component of this release! The cynical, absurd, and simply "Odesa" lyrics of the tracks make this music very interesting to listen to, and one can really catch the charm, humor, and carefree atmosphere of Odesa and the "game" of a big southern city with its own inimitable style.
In our opinion, it's an incredibly important release for the Ukrainian electronic scene and its self-reflection on its own roots. Music created at the turn of the century in Odesa is a truly Ukrainian art, which we have yet to analyze, reorder and present to the modern public. We consider this material very important for understanding what was happening in the Ukrainian art of electronic music at the end of the millennium. The combination of rough techno rhythms, psytrance melodies, and cynical textuality in a very simple form presents the material from the past century as highly actual for today's electronic scene, it really gets into many current trends.
We are happy to open this release for you, as we see great value in this music for contemporary Ukrainian art, self-reflection, and self-realization.

Working on the visual plane, Igor Gusev has become one of Ukraine's most important artists.
This release incredibly vividly describes the various situations and pictures of being that made up the very life, style, and vibe of Odessa. A very stylish sound and really interesting lyrics make up this release.

система | system presents "Mundane Levitation" by Oksana Hritseva. Oksana Hritseva is a Ukrainian / Odesa-based artist, pianist, and composer. Okasana Hritseva is a well-known music composer for art projects, movies, and documentaries. All the tracks were produced in 2001.
We continue highlighting sound/productions from the beginning of the 2000-s produced in Odessa, which were never published before.

~ “I have always been fascinated by electronic music. As soon as I got my first synthesizer, I immediately started experimenting with sound and liked synthesizing new timbres. There was such an option on Roland jx3p, and I often took part in jam sessions, where my electronic sound brought a unique atmosphere of modern advanced sound, shading and decorating the sound of live instruments. A little later, I completely switched to electronic sound. I was fascinated by ambient, and I was producing tracks in this style. There were also more daring experiments and attempts to create a unique canvas woven from electronic sounds, waves, and noises. In this way, I expressed my inner state and view of reality and tried to show all the aspects of my inner world.
There was an influential cultural gathering in Odessa in the 90s, where I met many artists and media artists with whom I began collaborating as a composer. Olya Kashimbekova and Gleb Katchuk became my co-authors in many audio-visual projects. I liked improvising on the piano, and our joint project, "Flash Royale" became a hallmark of our creative alliance. We first demonstrated it at the "2 Days and 2 Nights of Contemporary Music" festival in Odessa in 2001.
I often arranged piano improvisation evenings on the premises of the Union of Composers of Ukraine, and II liked this format of my implementation. If I needed to write an electronic track, I turned to the recording studio specialists, recording the arrangements on notes.
One day my friend brought an audio cassette containing remixes of my songs created by the Kyiv electronic musician King Imagine. His view of my music struck me, and we met and became friends. During that period, I realized that I needed to make music myself without the help of studio specialists. King Imagine helped me a lot with this. He came to Odessa and let me equip a small studio in my house. The presented tracks refer to that period. For me, it was a breakthrough, I immediately received an order for a soundtrack for a documentary series about a famous traveler, and I had a new wave of inspiration. Odessa, at that time, was seething with creative energy. Many contemporary art exhibitions and concerts, and I have already participated as an electronic composer. I like to write ambient. It reflects my inner world, the depth of my experiences, and my view of reality.” ~ Oksana Hritseva.

When I decided to take a break from the label I made a promise to one artist that I would support her next release. That artist was Lilly Phoenix aka The Subdermic. Those of you who have followed Bass Agenda Recordings will know I love working with people who are always pushing forwards and evolving their music. I am always more excited by an artist coming up with something challenging and different to their last output than I am about artists who repeat their formula rather than push it forwards.

I was a fan of The Subdermic long before I released her music on Bass Agenda Recordings, but in many ways her Electro journey has taken place on the label. From Joyride through to All Shapes and Sizes and now this release, you can see she’s blossomed – like a beautiful part robot flower, with sharp edges.

P7345UR3MØD37 is her new alias – confirming her commitment to the Electro sound and wanting to give this side of her artistry its own place in the world. As you will find upon hitting the play button, this is all about dancefloor energy; constant stimulation, keeping things moving and interesting. From the industrial stimulants of Hymenoptera to the twisted acid of Emanator this is an EP that blends the elements that have made Lilly’s music so interesting since day 1 – fast, furious, twisted, sexy, edgy sounds born of a lifetime of development and dedication to her craft. An early promo was was sent to Dave Clarke at the beginning of the year, so you may recognise the title track and Hymenoptera from his Whitenoise show.

The pleasure keeps coming too, with an exceptional remix by NULLPTR which adds a layer of lush depth to the title track.

Мене звати Юлія Власкіна, я виросла на Донбасі, другу половину життя прожила в Києві. Через війну виїхала з України і так склалося, що наразі живу в Берліні. Писала музику для театру, зараз працюю на радіо і роблю передачу про український андеграунд ‘To Hear Is To Feel’. Мені дуже пощастило.

Я випустила перший EP ‘Le Divisionnisme’ під псевдонімом YV у 2019, потім змінила псевдонім на super inter. Не впевнена, що не перейменуюся знову, — це освіжає.

‘From The East’ — це музика, яка склалася сама собою. Чернетка у мене була вже пару років, я кілька разів грала цю музику наживо, але ніяк не могла довести думку до кінця і оформити. Це не зовсім типова для мене музика, і я певним чином соромилася її драматичності та вразливості.
Але події останнього року створили потребу кудись спрямувати і там прожити той біль, який вони принесли. Так я зрозуміла, як дописати цю музику, про що вона.

На обкладинці моє фото Олімпійського стадіону, біля якого я жила останні роки перед війною.
Це дуже особистий реліз, але я відчуваю, що багато хто мене зрозуміє.

My name is Yulia Vlaskina. I grew up in Donbas and lived in Kyiv for the second half of my life. Because of the war, I left Ukraine and now live in Berlin. I used to write music for the theatre, and now I work on the radio and make a program about the Ukrainian underground called 'To Hear Is To Feel.' I am very lucky.

I released my first EP, 'Le Divisionnisme' under the alias YV in 2019, then changed my name to super inter. I'm not sure I won't change it again - it's refreshing.

'From The East' is music that has developed by itself. I've had a draft for a couple of years now, I've played it live a few times, but I couldn't get it right and put it together. It's not quite typical music for me, and I was somewhat ashamed of its dramatic and vulnerable nature.
But the last year's events created a need to direct it somewhere and live the pain they brought. That's how I realized how to finish this music, what it's about.

The cover features a photo of me at the Olympic Stadium, where I lived in the last years before the war.
This is a personal release, but I feel many people will understand me.

Somatic Responses - Doomsday Conduit

Long serving veterans of the electronic scene Somatic Responses are back on Acroplane Recordings with Doomsday Conduit - their 4th LP on the Irish imprint. Always looking forward, the Healy brothers have crafted an album with two distinct identities, presented on either side of a limited edition cassette.

On Side A of this run of 100 tapes, the somewhat introspective opener Other Destinations breaks the ice to make way for the heavyweight material that the Welsh duo are known so well for. The aptly named Photon Barrage features frantic acid lines and punishing breaks, followed by the title track where pulsating bass lines dominate the neo-jungle landscape. Synth layers unfurl in the fast paced The Fault Inside Us, leading to a change of velocity in the form of Slewed Diffusion where the marching percussion is pierced by hyperspace drills.

The B side sees the Somatics exploring the acid drenched, electro occupied realm of their collective output. 2Hlec kicks off with morphing mechanical breaks. Imagined Darkness (Elektro Mix) follows with the sounds of machines engaged in mutual destruction. Process Layer is stripped back in comparison, almost hypnotic, eventually decomposing into a chorus of digital lamentations. SLec has one foot in a post-apocalyptic Detroit, with the other located somewhere off-world. Closing the LP out is the dark ambient ode to the void, Tec Cymru.

The mech-scape imagery for this release has been designed by Timothée Mathelin (www.futurorg.com) and features full colour on shell printing on both sides of the LP’s blue cassette.

FROEN is a DJ and promoter living in Central Asia, founder of 'Disco Arab’: events featuring Arab, Latin, African, and Asian music.  ‘FRØEN’ means ‘frog’ in Danish; in this connection, the artist describes her music selection as a ‘swamp with many different weird-sounding creatures’. From the opening notes the mix plunges the listener into a mysterious, somewhat frightening dark-fantasy atmosphere that grows into rhythmic dance grooves.
