3rd August 2022 - Live again from Mickey Zoggs, this time delighted to be joined by techno connoisseur and "professor of the dread arts" Midnight Mary with a bag full of wonky electronics in tow.

This show marked 6 years to the day since our very first broadcast from our flat on the baby Noods waves, when 4hrs of music ended with records and empty bottles scattered around the living room, and Henry closed the show with a dubbed out and decaying sample of Marge's closing  monologue from the Monorail episode (that gave us our name).

Fittingly dramatic and sentimental opening descended into rhythmic grubbery of many twists and turns. This is one of our favourite shows ever and very worthy for a birthday special!

Embarking on the new calendar season of De Kat Memwa with a guest I've been eagerly anticipating. There's always been an imaginary roster of creators in my mind that I'd be thrilled to host in the series. Vienna-based artist Andrea Ida has long been on this list, but somehow, due to my own negligence, I couldn't get in touch with her. Finally, I managed to correct this glaring mistake.

I recall stumbling upon Andrea's mixes somewhere around 2019, and I was absolutely mesmerized. Nearly every corner of the sonic internet space was filled with tropical sounds, which we were also cultivating at that time. However, Andrea stood out among music enthusiasts with her love for krautrock, punk, NDW, and other dark arts and matters.

I deeply admire individuals with diverse musical interests who can showcase a wide array of genres in their mixes, while evoking a specific emotion or association. Andrea is precisely one of those musical weavers. Her mixes are comprised of different nodes and intertwinings that form a unified masterpiece.

For me, her works are always about active listening, surprise, inspiration, and most importantly, immersion in sound, transitioning from one state to another, and also about charisma and daily protest against routines. And this unique release, recorded by Andrea specifically for De Kat Memwa, is no exception.

As I was crafting this text, I wanted to encapsulate the impression of listening to the mix in the form of a metaphor. Perhaps it was obvious to write something about an esoteric shamanic ritual.... But not today... 

For me, this mix is akin to riding on Falcor the Luck Dragon from the movie The NeverEnding Story, only you're not a teenager anymore, but an adult!

Ahead of his new Bright Bars From The Stars album, out on Meakusma at the end of May, DJ Peacock, aka Pieter Kock, presents a one-hour mix for the Meakusma Show on LYL Radio. Pieter is one of the founding and guiding souls behind the Berlin-based bar and micro club O Tannenbaum. Musically active since 1986 as a singer, guitarist, drummer, and noise musician, he has released music under his own name and a variety of different aliases and different shapes.

This one-hour mix lifts the veil a bit on the vast amount of influences Pieter has as a DJ and musician. He is a versatile chronicler of the night, with different moods and modes referencing the past and the future alike. Cosmic, sentimental, pop, avant-garde, and industrial, cocktail bars of a dystopian future, beware!

This is the fourth volume in my Geography of the Mind Series, focusing on private-issued Canadian music. For this instalment I gathered a mixed bag, but tried to sustain a pensive, melancholic mood throughout. The mix weaves together psychedelic downer folk, emotive electronics, environmental ambient, tape collage, and dank & dubby new wave into a blue-hued tapestry for despondent dreamers.
