'Blues Riff''s distant guitar, airy synth pads, and consistent tick of a drumbeat add up to a disaffected vaudeville-esque dance track that conjures up Tom Waits, Jim Jarmusch and yes, Lynch's Lost Highway.

This single release comes in conjunction with the announcement of Pearly's debut album 'Silver Of The Mirror', out February 11th, 2022 through Eto Ano Recordings. The nine-track album continues the impressive world-building and focused aesthetic that the Cleveland band has cultivated since its formation.

Silver Of The Mirror offers a menagerie of musical ideas. As fans of cinema, Pearly jumps around genre throughout SOTM in an irreverent, tongue-stabbing-through-cheek manner. There’s a trembling unease that lines the project, seen most clearly elsewhere in the works of David Lynch; this feeling a reflection of a pervasive American angst. SOTM simultaneously provides a totem towards America’s dark history and further exposes the cracks in the reverie of contemporary middle-class life. While listening to this album, we witness the creative writing duo of Austyn Benyak & Josie Yeager attempting to protect each other from this world by building their own.

New York trio Purelink give us an exclusive peek of what they have planned for the upcoming summer live music season in this weekend’s Sunday Mix. As the creators of Signs, one of the best ambient and dub techno albums of last year, their 80-minute mix shows off their advanced ears for soundscapes and texture, while adding on head-nodding grooves and dubby four-to-the-floor beats.

It’s as dancefloor suitable as it is Sunday sofa ready. “This new year has mostly been spent in our studio prepping new music and live set ideas,” they say. “A lot of these songs reflect the dancier side we’ve been inspired by lately. Hope to see you on a dancefloor soon.”

This October I had the honour of playing the closing set at Zhaodai Beijing during my China Tour; The tour was an full experience which took off with a 7 gig journey in 8days and this is the only live recording I have. Enjoy!

Our next mix comes from Montreal’s enigmatic DJ Frog. Dusty loops and crushed grooves are the highlight of this Doo Records mainstay. Her selections and productions flutter between the minimalist zones of house and dubby techno. It takes in a whole host of unreleased material from Cheeks, Hashman DJ and sometime studio collaborator SnP 500 and stays resolutely buried in swampy sonics and swirling dub undercurrents. Subtlety is key to how moods are built up, then fade away. There are no big moments, just a slow teasing of tension that grows ever more irresistible.
