I was sitting in St. Nicholas Park at dusk, plucking my violin quietly, getting frustrated that the insects biting me were “preventing me” from “focusing” and coming up with any lyrics.

By the time I walked the 3 blocks to my apartment, the whole song had appeared in my head.

I imagined a setting back home in Alaska, sitting on a porch outside a house party, having an awkward yet beautiful encounter with someone very dear.

I played this song at a house show for a friend, songwriter, and producer Evan Crommett. He helped me produce it, adding synthesizers, backup vocals, and texture while I offered input and mandolin. This project opened my eyes to the world of music production, and gave a glimpse into how “the sausage gets made”.
