For the next entry in the Mesh mix series, we welcome Mesh artist Evan Gildersleeve, who brings an hour-long journey weaving together distorted textures, visceral rhythms, and fragmented melodies, unfolding a world that feels both intimate and expansive.

In Evan's own words, 'Having grown up listening to a lot of heavy, guitar based music, I’m often drawn to artists who channel a kind of unwieldy energy. I’ve also become increasingly fascinated by manipulations of the voice, something that appears in many forms across the hour. This mix is very much representative of the artists I admire whose music has had an undeniable impact on who I am creatively. It’s a selection of tracks that I often return to and continue to resonate deeply'.

Mesh Mix Series 031: Evan Gildersleeve

'Mortal' is the debut single from London based composer and electronic musician Evan Gildersleeve. The track explores the composer’s personal challenges with mental health, his search for solitude and the conflict of imposed isolation.

What began as a more introspective project exploring themes of solitude saw a complete shift in relevance during lockdown. Quarantine forced a period of re-evaluation upon the composer and a great deal of music was soon abandoned. Evan later rediscovered a collection of sparse piano improvisations, captured in a peaceful moment before UK lockdown began. The recordings served as a gateway between the tranquility of the recent past and the turbulence of the present day. Although comforting at first, the growing tensions experienced around the world would inevitably creep into the music. The result is a gentle push and pull between tension and tranquility, a singular piece that flows seamlessly through meditative moments and often teeters on the brink of overwhelm. 

‘Mortal’ is out now on London label Human Worth with all proceeds donated to UK mental health charity Mind.

Evan Gildersleeve is emerging as a distinctive voice in electronic composition. His music explores the intersection between emotive storytelling and immersive sound design, often shining a light on challenging aspects of the human experience.

As a frequent collaborator, Evan has contributed towards projects from some of the most celebrated figures in modern music, including Jónsi of Sigur Rós and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson. 

His glimmering debut Mortal arrived in 2020 through London label Human Worth, offering a gentle meditation on solitude, the conflict of isolation and the transformative impact of nature on a fragile mind.

Evan’s expansive compositions would go on to catch the ear of acclaimed electronic artist Max Cooper, who’d invite the composer to join his venerable Mesh imprint.

Wake arrives March 14th, marking Evan’s most introspective work to date. A deeply personal account, documenting a turbulent period of self-recovery and exploring the power of collective empathy.
