The Funkier Sounds Radio Show

Resident Craig Adams took to the decks this week, a talented member of our crew who has exceptional taste in music, ranging from uplifting house grooves to funky disco beats to souful vibes. As well as spinning tunes on NDC Radio, he is also the host of the well respected show House Nation on Radio Saltire. 

His guest for the second hour was Smashed Atoms, the creative alter-ego of London-based producer and DJ Steve Gladdis. Known for his eclectic beats and vibrant energy, he's released tracks on labels like Hot Digits, Paper Disco and New City Sound. Blending elements of funk, soul, and electronica, his sets are always a sheer delight, and it's a pleasure to welcome him to Horsebox Disco.

The latest Funkier Sessionis a good one - a 96 minute beast of a mix from a UK-based DJ and producer called NTRIK. I loooove this mix - there’s loads going on but it flows really well… starting off on a lovely boogie tip but building to something chunkier with original and remixed disco, some house and varied funky vibes. A few classics and some new discoveries in there too. It’s a really nice one, and you’d do well to give it a listen to see what I mean! As always, I'm looking for more mixes, so give me a shout if you wanna get involved - all welcome!

Funkier Session #032 - NTRIK

I started this episode slow and slinky, but switched things up halfway to road test a few promos. Tried to keep it a vaguely summery vibe this time, and covered lots of bases as usual.

This fortnight’s guest mix was from Leon Dahl, who’s an ace producer based in NZ that I’ve appeared alongside on some compilations. It also turns out he’s a wicked DJ, as shown by this mix - an hour and a bit of eclectic but very funky sounds. There’s a lot in here but it flows so nicely - there’s funky stuff, old school stuff, ghetto stuff, banging stuff… all the good stuff! And then a genius slowdown at the end - didn’t see that coming.

This episode was a rather special one - it’s my last on NDC radio as I’ve chosen to move on from the late time slot to somewhere with a bit of flexibility while I ponder my next move. I’ll be taking it on to Twitch for a bit.

Times are a’changing for my Funkier Sounds radio show - I’ve made the difficult decision to take it off NDC, its home for the last few years. It’s purely so I can be a bit more flexible with when I do it and the format - guest mixes have been a real pain recently, so now I’ve got the freedom to do one hour, or two, with or without a guest mix. Dance With Me Extended

I kept things fairly moody for this one, with a mix of deep house and broken beat kinda vibes - it was fun flitting between 4/4 and those looser percussive vibes. Then things went a bit bumpy in the last half an hour or so, with a few US and UK garage flavaz just because I fancied it.
