hit-girl is dedicated to survivors. I wrote the lyrics about speaking truth to power & taking action to find freedom from sexual harassment and assault, and as a direct response to the arrogance, show of power and bullying of predators. I wanted to create a slightly tongue & cheek upbeat sunny feeling pop tune to celebrate the calm cool confidence of taking our power, and to inspire hope. I took inspiration from Wanda Jackson's "Let's Have A Party".

Sivan Lioncub and Christopher Daddio fused brains in 2010. Their first project “Lee Malone” started as a cross-country songwriting affair between Sivan (vocals, violin) in Brooklyn and Chris (vocals, guitar) in San Francisco. It quickly became an obsession & Sivan moved back to her childhood home in Oakland, California so that their music creation could continue. They busked on street corners, played in clubs, got noticed by local press and were on the rise. Then, just after they were invited to record at Converse Rubbertracks, Chris was diagnosed with hodgkin’s lymphoma and Lee Malone screeched to a halt. 

     Sivan stayed by his bedside in the hospital every day & every night as Chris went through aggressive rounds of in-patient chemo & radiation at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley. They made it as fun as they could, singing songs in hospital halls til dawn. Together through the tunnel of darkness they persevered and lo & behold, they earned themselves a new life.

      A superstitious couple, they felt that Lee Malone had brought them bad luck, so they decided to rename their band Everyone Is Dirty, a lyric from a song Sivan wrote. They recruited bassist/pedal steel player Tyler English and drummer Tony Sales (whose dad & uncle are the Sales Brothers) & released their first album appropriately named Dying Is Fun on Tricycle Records. They toured the country in their trusty van Papa Mario, playing BFD, Treefort Music Fest in Boise, SXSW & Noise Pop and lots of little shows in cities along the way.

    By February of 2015 they were on the rise again, kicking ass & playing tons of shows. Then, just after they opened for Cold War Kids, Sivan had an allergy to an antibiotic called Augmentin and her liver failed. She turned yellow and her piss looked like Coca Cola. Shocked & profoundly disappointed, they had to cancel their tour to Treefort Fest & beyond. Instead, in a hospital bed at Alta Bates Chris paid back the devotion, staying with her day and night. Music gave them hope, so they continued to write & record with Tyler, and in 2018 they released My Neon’s Dead, a 10 song memoir of Sivan’s hospitalized “toxic morphine haze”. 

      For the 2nd time,  life was re-granted to the duo. With a clean bill of health they replaced Tony Sales with Tyler’s high-school bandmate, drummer Jake Kopulsky, and their rhythm section grew to be a force of nature. 

   Until today Sivan & Chris are recording music at Donut Time Audio, a full service recording studio that takes over their 2 bedroom house in Oakland. He engineers & produces. She writes lyrics & and shreds a clear blue electric violin that glows when it hits the light. When he’s not working on an Everyone Is Dirty song Chris makes a living recording & mixing music at Donut Time Audio with local artists. Sivan enjoys collaborating with other artists as well, most recently recording violin and singing with The Residents on their albums "Intruders" and "Metal meat & Bone" and touring with Shannon Shaw.

Vander Roo stated that B.Swo sounded heroic to her and was used with the aim of cliched oversimplification; Dinosaur's had thier day frolicking in the sun.
