Berlin-based, Franco-German producer and DJ Franz Matthews, alongside well-known happiness coach Jonathan Lehmann, have crafted a thumping, hypnotic EP that combines music and the practice of guided meditation as one.

We’ve collated remixes from a spread of some of the greatest minds in electronic music today, including Aera, The Organism and Milio, to create their unique interpretations of this pioneering project of mind and music.

Franz Matthews’s original brings a complex web of interlocking percussion rhythms that develop with unfolding synths throughout the guided meditation to reach a soul-shaking climax. Transporting us on a journey through the mind with a captivating piece of musical storytelling throughout.

Aera steps up with the first remix, carving out a spacious story that casts the spotlight onto the spoken word vocals from Lehman, combining elegant rhythms with contrasting layers of subtle harmonic movement and mind-altering synth melodies that engage the inner recesses of the brain.

The Organism takes things into a more aggressive, percussive direction, using his archetypal sound to traverse across the planes of your mind. Off-kilter synth tones collide across a punchy Moog style bassline and grooving disco-tinged drum machine grooves underneath.

Finally, Milio brings his distinctive club sounds to the blend. Mixing glitching rhythms with wandering melody lines that integrate elements of minimalism and techno into a joyous and playful reworking. Milio’s distinct ability to craft memorable lines that are equally unique and quirky closes this superb remix package off with finesse.

Premiere: David Kochs 'Night Leaving'

Off the back of one of their most prolific years on record, Danish trio WhoMadeWho are starting the New Year as they mean to go on. Following the critically acclaimed release of Silence & Secrets back in November, the internationally celebrated live outfit now looks to expand on the success of the third single from their forthcoming seventh long player, as they ask iconic German artist and Silence & Secrets co-producer Frank Wiedemann to release his version of the captivating hit record.

Having carved a reputation as one of the most important artists to emerge onto the electronic music scene in the past two decades, Frank Wiedemann’s rise to global superstardom has been remarkable to say the least. Needing little introduction, the German musician and label owner of Innervisions and Bigamo Musik is best known as one half Âme and is also a member of electronic music acts including Schwarzmann and Howling.

No stranger to Silence & Secrets – having already laid his studio expertise to the original mix just a couple of months ago alongside co-writer Jens Kuross – the iconic German stalwart now steps up to release his own special rendition of the wistful, melodic cut.

"I won’t call this a remix”, says Wiedemann, speaking about the record. “It’s rather a finished earlier version that happened during the process of creating the original song."

With a warm modular introduction and stripped-back instrumentation making way for Tomas’ Høffding’s melancholic topline, we see Wiedemann’s luscious sound experiment merge with the hypnotic spirit of WhoMadeWho’s musical hallmark to create an eclectic, yet familiar sonic journey that keeps the listener guessing throughout. As subtle piano chords and ethereal tones make way for deep, chugging basslines and a climax of distorted harmonic synthesizers, Frank’s versions brings the original closer to the dancefloor, as he delivers an emotive hymn that will linger long in the memory.

In the years since their inception WhoMadeWho have established themselves as one of the definitive underground bands of their generation, renowned for their exceptional grasp of emotional depth, heartrending melody and inspired song writing. The group, comprised of Tomas Høffding, Tomas Barfod and Jeppe Kjellberg, inject consummate professionalism into standout performances all over the globe, from Roskilde to Sonar, Melt! to Burning Man and have produced seven albums and a plethora of EPs, singles and remixes on labels like Kompakt, Innervisions, Life & Death. With Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Høffding and Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, their music is an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying.

For the first release of 2022, we are pleased to welcome Amsterdam- based Romanian Alex Preda, who already participated in Odd Echoes Vol. 3, and this time, he presents his debut EP  ̈Moons & Stars ̈ on the label with a fabulous remix by Lexer.

The Preda sound has developed over the years, with his taste developing into the electronic sounds of the likes of Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis in his teens, into his signature driving techno. 

Always with an element of warmth and melody underneath and has evolved into integrating live elements into his performances, something Alex has been perfecting over the years.

The lead track Might Be Love ft. Katty Heath, is the perfect opener, full of groove and catchy melodies, that play along with the fx lead vocal, creating a super club piece.

Lexer approaches the reinterpretation of the lead track, adding new and catchy melodies, synthesizers and textures, giving his well-known stamp and taking the version to his own terrain.

Delving deeper into the EP, we find more of Alex's signature sound, but with a deeper and more emotional touch as shown in  ̈Don't Move" where the focus is on the beautiful chords that make the perfect match with the celestial synth melodies.

To close the EP we have “Searching” which is also another dance floor oriented track, fitted especially to turn the heat on the on any set. And last but not least, “Away from IT” is the perfect electronica/breaks closing track to round up this special EP.
