Exploited Body - When My Darkness Came To Light

Following releases on Posh Isolation and Northern Electronics, Exploited Body returns to his label Changeless to present his ambitious debut album 'When My Darkness Came To Light'.  
  
'When My Darkness Came To Light' is a subdued yet unrelentingly volatile record that examines the inescapable parallels of his depression and life as a black person. On his first solo release since 2019's 'Touching Without Feeling', his signature blistering distortion is contrasted with delicate melodies and heart-wrenching compositions that are at once deceivingly captivating and staggeringly harsh.  
  
’When My Darkness Came To Light’ will be released 9th April via Changeless.  
  
The album is written, produced, mixed and mastered by Noah Kin and features artwork by the visionary LA-based mixed-media artist Jesse Draxler and photography by Changeless affiliated Helsinki-based photographer Helen Korpak.

With Assembler, his second full-length album, Yen Tech re emerges in ecstatic and primordial new form -- a multi-layered and interwoven work that blends futuristic production, meta-science fiction, and anthropic critique into a dizzying array of next scenarios -- a maze-like vision of our technological and exponentially oracular, full-stack future.

This imagined future becomes a construct or place in itself; one in which the record buzzes and swarms; a mechanosphere of towering melodic vocal samples and sound design - all narrated by Yen Tech's unnerving, diaristic vocals - as he channels the form of post-human techno cretin, whispering hyperbolic ASMR to no one in particular. We follow this character from one disorienting experience to the next as he recites a stream of indecipherable neologisms and hyper-descriptives, the existential residue seeping from every line. In the end though, a strange, uneasy beauty comes into focus; the metamorphic lyrics and musical euphorias revealing Assembler as a type of elegy: a wet glass reflection of the failures of what we are and were - and a jubilant celebration of what we may become.

"I imagined Assembler as a type of self imposed simulation, an invisible boundary that the narrator has to navigate out of to move forward. It was a way of looking at how we may carry the issues and failures of the past with us into the future. The psychological baggage of history, the guilt of geotrauma, the addictive melange of technology all become dealt with in this stage of acceptance and recovery. I wrote the album with this in mind, a process to find the slimy pearl of who we are" - Yen Tech

6G is the child of a hollow moon, unwritten histories of permaculture deities in the levant, pagan conspiracies about haunted birthrights, texts buried in lunatic obscurity, communication with the evil smile of a goddess, bells designed to be wrung three times in the night, childish blood games, farmers with occult crops.

The duo of Oxhy and Susu Laroche have chosen the name The Fertile Crescent, evoking one of the cradles of human civilization as much as a (un)healthy devotion to the power of the lunar cycle. Musically, it reeks of post-industrial folklore ripe with solemn tones and conflicting bits, combined via the mocking dream logic of a trickster spirit. A skeletal presence of melody in a sparse, ceremonial ambiance that can even welcome thunderous rolls of breakbeat, like tapping from the energy of every ritual that has scarred the land in time. Following the record is like attempting at drawing a psychic topography of those same rituals, manifestations, tragedies and games, it’s like mistaking the broadband network for the Ley lines but still succeeding in conquering its occult power.

SF.MIX.25 – Antonia XM

The 22nd release of katharsis is the album “Jester” by the Finnish duo Running, coming out on May 16th. The album unfolds an emotional and mythological tale of an imaginary terrain in an alternate time and realm with the Jester as the protagonist. Throughout the eight tracks, the listener is presented with a sonic world of tragic, sadness, beauty and even comedy by the duo’s poignant style of melodious ambient compositions.

Running’s “Jester” follows their last album “For Us By Us”, released on the Finnish label True Aether in 2018. On this release, the group seem to thrive with a conceptual and almost narrative backdrop for their creative outpourings. As Running have earlier been known for their very energetic and experimental live-performances, and as both members have indulged musically in other projects spanning from hardcore punk to contemporary performance art, it will be exciting to see where the duo goes from here.

Impossible Piano is a collection of AI generative MIDI piano pieces, merged with field recordings sourced from New York throughout 2021 by New-York based artist sysadmin and accompanied by visuals shot by Karolina Lisowski.

Split in two sides and referencing artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tim Hecker and Taylor Brook, it constitutes a complete narrative oscillating between structure and texture respectively.

Impossible Piano I-IV is a compositionally driven affair, welcoming the listener with a deceptively simple motif that progressively complexifies and expands into something new yet altogether reminiscing of its core. Unconcerned with sonic deviations for the entirety of its 4-track duration, it stands out as a presentation of delicate arrangements.

Impossible Piano [Lullaby Mix] shifts the focus to a refined layering of found sounds submerged in minimalist piano ambience. Sounds sourced from trains, electric currents and material interaction, illuminated by occasional glimpses of melody, comprised in a single music piece.

World Canvas Mix 23 comes from innerinnerlife (Tomasz Szpaderski) whose delicate and tender ambient compositions have been featured on Portuguese labels Eastern Nurseries and surf. On his 2021 EP ‘R U OK?’ innerinnerlife weaved together luscious avant-pop structures which are as well present on his mix for World Canvas. Recently Szpaderski has been producing plenty of new unreleased music, some of which is premiered on the guestmix at hand.
