Blocks and Escher give us their debut 12” for Metalheadz, hot on the heels of the pair’s contribution to the Platinum Breakz 4 album which was called ‘Madness’. This release is the archetypical Headz sound. Blocks and Escher have an uncanny ability to capture the golden age aesthetic whilst moving head first toward the future.

‘Moods’ begins with an introspective edge, with soothing vocals and pads set against rugged breaks. The track soon morphs into a sub bass roller however the mood soon changes and the track turns into a darker affair with mentasms and mid-range basses working with and  against one another, the track is a journey through calm and storm in a way in which only Blocks and Escher could do.

As per its penchant for cyberdelic enigmas, Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic outpost is building a core of secretive producers. After closing out 2014 with a record from unknown newcomer Crystal Bandito, the label will return in 2015 with an offering from semi-anonymous beatmaker Aden. The tracks on Tanz, which is the German word for "dance", are hewn from bouncing drums, vocal yelps, glittering keys, and a few functional white noise-infused breakdowns that pack a solid dose of energy and spirit. "Tanz 1 – Lieb" is a gentle intermission from the EP’s intense vitality, with warm and soft pads that lay the foundation for blunted percussion. From rigid pumpers to soothing textures, the Tanz EP contains a range of moods to fuel human bodies on the virtual dance floors of a digital future.

Stepping Stones

Jesse Perez not only published already on labels such as I'm A House Gangster and Hot Creations, on his own imprint Mr. Nice Guy Records the man from Miami released stuff with titles like "This Hoe Gonna Get Some Dick“ or "Slangin' That D“. Damn right, the American producer and DJ call a spade a spade and is following his own style since several years now. After he returned Ellen Aliens "The Kiss“ (BPC265) with a Caribbean-tinged remix last year, Perez will debut with his first "THOT EP“ on BPitch Control. 
Perez himself calls his style Bump-N-Grind. And the title track shows already why: "THOT“ is one of those perfect Miami tracks with a wicked bass line and lots of old school driven hip-hop attitude, to which you can actually dance pretty contagious. Just as "Divine Intoxication“. Here a circular bass line moves around with a lascivious verve while Perez demonstrates his passion for direct percussion and nasty rhythms. The melodic addition isn’t new to his game, but a hallmark of his productions. The last track "Bukkake Challenge“ closes the EP not only with some animal madness – in the true sense of the word – but reinforces once again why Perez’ productions are the perfect choice for people who listen to hip-hop and also enjoying House Music. 1. Jesse Perez - "THOT" (Out on Bpitch Control Records)

DJ Rashad was and still is a legend.  Not only was he a Footwork and Juke pioneer but also one of the hardest working DJs and producers I've ever met.  The dude really never stopped working.  He was either globetrotting and spreading the sound of Chicago around the world or in the lab pushing himself to expand his sound further and further.  On April 26 2014 the world lost one of the most inspiring and talented artists of our time.  His spirit moves through Teklife, the dancers, his friends and everyone he has touched or influenced.

Over the past few years I've been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him.  The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed.  Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them.  It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do.  

"Movin' Forward" is a collection of those collaborations plus two exclusive unreleased Machinedrum tracks that were heavily inspired by Rashad and the Teklife crew.  I called it "Movin' Forward" because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years.  I'm proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him.  May his sound and spirit continue to inspire and spread through everyones speakers!  Teklife to tha next life!!

Understand is the first track off of 'Movin' Forward',  out on Friday April 24th. 100% proceeds will go to his family and estate.

Today we’re lucky enough to be premiering what someone in the office just referred to as a ‘serious nugget.’ Yeah, OK, so that person was me. And yes, I did say it to myself, in my head, after listening to it over and over again; but the fact remains and it is what it is. The Critical Music signed drum & bass producer, Emperor’s'She Said VIP’ – which will be exclusively available from the Critical store this Monday – is superlatively frenetic, heaving it’s way out of the rousing build up introduction with the sort of lurching industrial bassline that’ll set most dancefloors afire.
