Based in Manchester, @pod_imiya plays a mix of jungle and drum n bass styles from all eras, dropping in hardcore, IDM and sped-up electro. Pod Imiya’s sets are usually centred around rough breaks with dark but uplifting selection.

Starting out as a regular DJ at Hit & Run, she quickly went on to play at nights across the UK such as Rupture, License to Jungle, Chicken Shop Events and Sheffield-based night Anomalies, which showcases the wonkier side of 170bpm.

After an astonishing SK001 remix that left us craving for more, we simply had to bring Elmono back for a grand expedition on Spitskool. Hailing from Cardiff but finding solace in Lisbon, this maestro has graced revered labels like Cold and Tectonic Records. And now, after a six-year hiatus, a new full body of work emerges, surpassing all expectations. Brace yourself for a collection of intricate, analog jams, tailor-made for every nocturnal moment.

First on the voyage is 'Release,' where organic samples mingle with resounding percussion. A smooth acid baseline carries this delicately emotive composition, never straying too far from the established path, yet perpetually meandering within the structured groove, propelling us forward.

Following suit is 'Fields of Shells,' an awe-inspiring MPC workout. Immaculately crafted drums, a formidable break, and an 808 jam unite to create a stunning piece of club artillery. The acid and stabs transport the mind to two distinct otherworldly realms, converging within the unorthodox groove forged by the low-end percussion.

Enter 'RhythmTing,' a subaqueous grime hybrid that wanders through captivating sonic landscapes. Refusing to pause and fixate, the essence lies in the absence of focus. Percussive elements weave in and out amidst arresting 16-bit sound design and intricate soundscapes, ultimately carving defined sonic spaces that dominate the soundscape.

Prepare for an education in impeccable rhythm and looping with 'You Knows.' Elmono's hip-hop and jungle prowess take center stage. Flangers and phasers dance in harmony with a break that flawlessly complements a contemplative synthesis and sub-bass combination. This is the epitome of slow, moody, and sleek jungle at its zenith.

Lastly, we have 'Way Cool,' a minimal roller tailor-made for those ethereal moments illuminated by 4 AM smoke machines. A tense and unsettling acid line harmonizes with the percussion, seamlessly intertwining with the vast expanse and atmosphere. Elmono has birthed an unequivocal and unmistakable sound, unapologetically his own.

For the remixes in this chapter, we have the label heads Maroki and Coralie, each offering their distinct reimaginations. Coralie's reinterpretation of 'Way Cool' echoes uncomfortable sound design reminiscent of Aphex Twin, challenging the very fabric of club-oriented music. Infused with his trademark bass-heavy kicks and subterranean work, accompanied by clicking percussion, it's the acid's metamorphosis that elevates this piece to the realm of peak-time, left-field delight.

Finally, we encounter Maroki's remix of 'Fields of Shells' - an unyielding and ferocious endeavour. A relentless 4x4 kick, overpowering acid, rolling percussion, and earth-shaking sub-bass levels test even the most robust foundations of any given club. Brace yourself for an unapologetic and unrelenting journey into the depths.

To see out the end of 2023 in style, eatmybeat welcome back Bristol-based Kahter to the label. As a long-term affiliate and remix collaborator on earlier projects, it was a given that Kahter would return for a full length EP. He delivers 4 low-slung, club-ready hits full of UK bass and techno flavour, complete with an additional 5th track; a remix from Italian bass don Kimber. The project, titled “Kord EP” explores subterranean depths, expansive sound design and intricate drum combos.

In  many  ways,  it’s  difficult  to  believe  Wehbba  only  dropped  his  first  full-length  EP  on  Drumcode  this  year.  Released  in  February,  the  four-tracker  ‘Eclipse’  was  a  monster  statement  piece  of  the  Brazilian’s  talents  and  followed  on  superbly  from  ‘Fake’,  his  contribution  to  last  year’s  A-Sides  Vol.6  –  inarguably  one  of  the  biggest  tracks  on  the  compilation.  With  the  confirmation  that  Wehbba  will  take  part  in  Drumcode’s  Off  Week  party  in  Barcelona,  followed  by  the  brand’s  takeover  of  Resistance  in  Ibiza,  it’s  indisputable  proof  that  his  crisp,  chord-driven  take  on  techno  has  become  a  vital  component  to  the  expansive  palette  of  sound  Adam  Beyer  has  drawn  for  the  label  in  2018  and  beyond.    

‘Catarse’  marks  the  rapid-fire  follow-up  from  the  prolific  producer.  Opening  with  the  eerie  ‘She  Lost  Control’,  Wehbba  says  he  took  inspiration  from  the  Joy  Division  track  of  almost  the  same  name  (‘She’s  Lost  Control’),  but  instead  of  crafting  the  dense  sonic  atmosphere  with  vocals,  he  employs  an  analogue  kick  drum  and  stealth-like  moog  bass  with  dramatic  results.  ‘Process’  follows,  a  cut  which  begun  as  a  cover  jam  of  Laurent  Garnier’s  ‘Crispy  Bacon’and  ends  up  incorporating  the  cut-up  vocals  of  legendary  minimal  composer  Steve  Reich,  who  is  one  of  Wehbba’s  chief  inspirators.  The  resulting  track  is  an  ice-cool  percussive  work  that’s  rich  in  dancefloor  functionalism.  The  title  track  will  befamiliar  to  many  who  follow  Drumcode  Radio,  a  goose-bump  inducing  highlight  of  Beyer’s  DCR392  at  Awakenings  in  Eindhoven,  ‘Catarse’  is  driven  by  a  memorable  melodic  riff  resplendent  in  90’s  techno  euphoria.  The  EP  concludes  with  the  terrific  ‘Mind  Awake’,  a  powerful  concoction  of  reverb  heavy  basslines  and  glitchy  effects,  that’s  been  thoroughly  road  tested  by  both  Beyer  and  Wehbba  and  kicks  like  a  rodeo  bull.

After a year of isolation in the studio, Selective Response is now ready to present his work to the world, starting with a release comprised two tracks. Part one, a four-on-the-floor, no-nonsense techno number titled Scorched Earth Policy, built from the ground up to push the tempo and energy of the room to the next level. Although simplistic in format, the razor-sharp synth line creates an air of urgency and angst, with an equally punishing kick drum that holds it all together.

Part two, a free download by the name of 'Weekend At Nik's', is a cut of brutal industrial electro named after one of his close friends. Influenced by the likes of The Prodigy and illegal warehouse raves, mixed with high energy thrash, the track is as fun and energizing as it is punishing.

HANDS proudly welcomes one of the hottest acts on the current industrial techno circuit. The Toronto based duo MDD is the alliance of techno producers Measure Divide and Dolgener, who pursue a distinct passion together: The dark and dirty and intensely rhythmic “Reverse The Contrast” is a collection of tracks that defines their diversity and ability to express their aggressive, distorted, and edgy sound reflecting on today's maddening world. Discover old and new school industrial influences in a very unique combination, laid out with highly skilled pro- duction in ten tracks around the 6-minute mark, food for thought and pure physical stimulus at the same time, contemporary club grub galore.
What started with intense recording sessions in 2015 became a live act in 2017, which has led MDD to perform alongside the likes of Orphx, Ancient Methods and Perc already; and in 2018 they have released two 12” vinyls to great acclaim. While industrial and techno have crossed over massively in recent years, from both camps, the question may arise, how does one add something new to the style? MDD succeed in nailing that objective, with an album that oozes euphoria and authenticity – with an innovative combination of sounds: From their techno heritage they take the rhythmic clue, a relentless, capturing backbone laced with substantial groove. And at the same time, they pay due respect to industrial traditions that by far precede the crossover wave of recent years: Tracks like “Crushed”, “Underlight” or “Valium” focus on unadulterated rhythms and noise chops with big washes of distortion; “Breath”, “Dives” and “Submission (featuring AADJA)” feature actual, albeit heavily treated vocals, and addictive melody hooks, thus even hinting at the times when tracks were actual songs. But there’s reconciliation at hand - “Grind” or “Second Injection” reveal their techno heritage through the whipping snare sounds and thumpy kick drums. And then it’s all in the same way head-nodding, stomping goodness. Contrast and reversal, past and present, MDD play with seeming antipodes and achieve something ultimately enjoyable!
