Ukrainian producer Konstantyn Isaev AKA Volta Cab steps up to the Hypercolour mantle with a killer EP of breakbeats inna classic style.  Previous releases on Illusion Recordings, Undertones, ISM and Morris Audio have really shone through, so it’s a pleasure to have him on board the good ship Hypercolour….

‘Apache Goes Wild’ opens up the triple pack, a stuttering broken beat and discordant pads sounds like it’s about to break out into some kind of classic 90s drum & bass jam, but reigns it in for a fabulous swinging breakbeat cut, chopping and changing in a highly inventive way, very funky.  

‘Back To The Top’ is another slab of prime time breakbeat, all heavy hitting piano stabs and clipped female vox, pumpin’ & jumpin’!  Closing the EP is ‘Fantazia’, a real heady and understated track, the female vox really warming up the rolling 4/4 breaks and cold stabs.

"The follow up to 'Skadi' by Austria's Sub on Subtle Audio:

The next Subtle Audio 12", from Austria's Sub which follows on from his previous Release on the Label, 'Skadi'. Two D&B Cuts and a Downtempo Piece will feature on the Vinyl and they're extremely good indeed.

'Tensions' is a beautifully delicate piece of D&B. Sharp snares, hi-hats and drifting atmospheres are underpinned by sub-zero bass sound. Suddenly the beats thicken and become twisted and glitchy. It’s almost as if the frozen lake you were standing on is beginning to crack and give way...

'Halleluja' is on the half-speed tip and probably will not even sound like D&B to most. Choir voices are interrupted by a stepping beat and shuddering, dirty bassline, offset by a world of icey atmospherics, echoes and feedback. This is truly from another planet.

'Hydra' is something a little different for Subtle Audio clocking in at 120bpm but certainly doesn't sound like house or techno! It's a nicely mellow track with a lurching, jerky beat which is filtered and reversed but always rhythmical. Dark Rhodes keys and then a bright piano line ensure a nice variance of mood in this beautifully balanced piece."

Switching from the analogue to the digital, we’re back with a follow-up to “Ghost Notes” – Radicall’s latest album. We’re talking about a digital-only four-track remix EP. In case you were wondering what you get when you combine a super talent with even more super talents, this EP is your answer. Radicall lends his signature blend of atmospheric backgrounds, fat basslines, and rolling and crisp beats to serve as an input material to be reshaped by the likes of LM1, Handra, Future Engineers, and Silence Groove; each of them a master of their own trade, and each of them with a different take on the main theme. LM1 turns “Quantum” into a steady-flowing Offworld-ish atmospheric roller, Handra transform “Silent Voices” into a smooth, no-frills dancefloor-esque stepper, Future Engineers offer a techmospheric hard-stepping rendition of “Superior Dark”, and Silence Groove closes the EP by adding a fantastic atmo-jungle twist to “Femme Fatale”. French producer Moresounds makes a welcome return to Cosmic Bridge five years after his debut. The Paris-based dub scientist was one of the first artist Om Unit picked for the label and the co-sign helped launch his career, which has since included contributions to Astrophonica, Doc Scott’s 31 Records, and remixes for Machinedrum as well as a growing touring schedule that saw him take his unique live show to Asia and America in 2016. Mutation Experts catches Moresounds in a more experimental vibe with four cuts that play with the rhythmic potentials of jungle in a different style.

Ting N Tings sets the mood with rolling breaks in a sea of soothing pads, subtle loops, vocal samples, and recurring sound effects anchored by deep bass to create a subtle, implied tension. Mutation Experts makes use of a catchy melody to take the listener along and once again the mood is one of subtle changes and blissful exploration, a junglist daydream. Ruff Times is the darker of the tracks on offer, a creeping roller wrapped around a two-note melody and drenched in dub, a hypnotic descent down a rabbit hole. The EP closes with Positive Yourself a mellow, downtempo production that plays with African motifs and samples for a gentle return to reality.
