The Exit Records camp have been in alias mode of late, from the self-titled ‘The Binary Collective’ album to Kid Drama’s Mikarma album; new avenues for creativity have been secured via new aliases which brings us to Module Eight.
Five like-minded beat makers; dBridge, Kid Drama, Skeptical, Loxy and Resound- all revered in their own right, who decided to form a project that unified their individual tastes, a long player that makes statement about their tastes about Drum & Bass and how it can be viewed. 
As always with Exit Records the material is future forward in its aesthetic whilst the production is detail driven but always club ready.

2015 Drum & Bass Tracks

Hibernating against an already impressively tight discography, Program has been biding its time in unleashing this next release. 

With some of the genre’s most technically adept artists, the track-listing alone is enough to grab your attention. There is a high calibre of production standard present throughout the LP, audible from start to finish. 

Whether you become submerged by Freek’s rolling ‘Enamoured’, accompanied by the pristine vocals of Pia Thaleia, or captured by the apocalyptic sounds of Slang Banger’s ‘Slaughter House’, every taste is catered for. Program sets aside its older sister label Ram and creates a breathing space, allowing it to grow. The label is a heavyweight in its own right; this album is only reaffirms that fact. 

And such a range of versatility comes with names both old and new. L 33 returns to the imprint, with clashing bass conundrum ‘Manipulate’. Gerra & Stone also make an anticipated reappearance; their contribution ‘Po’rdosol’ is a steppy riddim constructed through a medley of beats and sliced up sample. 

But relative newcomer Elliott Mac uses the LP as a pedestal for another stellar production. The budding artist flexes his capabilities across the soundscape of ‘Filter City’, delicately composed yet highly intricate. It’s demonstrative of Program’s dedication to emerging artists, sifting through cyberspace to showcase some of the best acts the underground has to offer. 

So now it’s time to prepare your subs and plug in your speakers – Program have made a welcome return, further solidifying their position as leading tastemakers with a quality ensured guarantee. It’s once again, time to get with the Program!

Starkey @starkbot has been blessing heads for some time with his unique take on bass music, championing grime and other forward-thinking music as part of his labels @seclusiasis, @slitjockey and most recently, his new experimental label @noremixes. His one hour set was part of a crazy block of club music we had Sunday evening of the marathon, this set is dope!

The 2015 Electronic Music Marathon was a 78 hour NONSTOP DJ marathon bringing together a diverse group of some of the best DJ talent in Philly to raise money for Mural Arts & WKDU. Ahead of a second full length album coming in April of 2016, one of the jewels in the Hotflush crown is back with another standout new EP. Sepalcure’s "Fight For Us EP" is their sixth on Scuba’s label, and it features two tracks of the sort of inventive and singular sounds that have made the American duo a truly unique proposition in the underground.

Sepalcure is the coming together of two creative musical talents, Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (who also works as Braille), and between the pair and their vast musical backgrounds they bring a real emotional sensibility and melodic sensuality to their sounds. Built on a solid groove foundation that takes cues from juke’s trademark jittery bass, they knit in both organic wood block hits and more synthetic electronic synth textures that are compelling and refreshing, and make for some of the most forward thinking sounds in all of modern day dance. This new release proves that once more.

Opener ‘Fight For Us’ is a shimmering, sun kissed and trilling electronic affair with lazy chords drifting next to heartfelt female vocals. Down low, a tender and light weight drum patter is inviting as it tumbles along, sucking you into the most vulnerable of emotional spaces. It’s a real heart-stopper that speaks of the sort of lost loves that we have all encountered at some point in our lives.

On the flip, the title track ‘Music 4 All’ is a more driven and direct, dance floor-oriented cut. Swooning synths are draped over rubber kicks as a nebulous vocal muttering infuses the whole thing. Prickly precision and filtered pads all add to the inviting sense of groove and lift you up, up and away.

This is honest electronic music with real structure that tugs at the heart whilst inviting you to tap your feet at the same time. For that rare trick, Sepalcure are in a class of their own.
