Composer, improviser, and Buchla Music Easel master Charles Cohen returns to Morphine with a suite of new material. In keeping with the timbre spectrum of his semi-modular system, Brother I Prove You Wrong is built around pointillist analog tones—Cohen's cosmic "beeps and boops"—that swarm and scatter in mesmeric patterns across four sides. Moving through surrealistic textural overlays and industrial miasma, the album's nine tracks reveal a more introspective and personal side of the artist, following from a retrospective LP trilogy released via Morphine in 2013. Those assembled works, dating back to the late '70s, quickly became essential listening and brought Cohen—at the time largely unknown outside Philadelphia's experimental circuit—to critical renown. 

Brother I Prove You Wrong was recorded in Berlin in September 2014 using the Buchla Music Easel, with production help and support from Rabih Beaini. Mastered by Neel and curated and designed by TankBoys; cover art by Nathalie du Pasquier.

Bio:
Mas is an audiovisual project recently formed by two members of the lpc collective label. They like to develop through their music and photographies a cold, minimalist and dark landscape.
Their work is inspired by artists from different horizons, such as : Delia Derbyshire for her contribution to concrete and electronic music during the 60’s, Le Corbusier for his minimalist vision of things and David Lynch for his particular and immersive aesthetic. The two parisian producers also give interest to the industrial music of Samuel Kerridge, for exemple. For this podcast, the duo tried to put all these influences together, for a slow travel to cold Autumn.

"Douran is carving out a special place in the electronic scene as an artist interested in creating a mix of sounds and universes that are not used to being mixed. 
On his new EP "Race To Infinity", the young producer was able to synthesise the idea he makes about his tunes : long progressions between electronic and symphonic orchestrations, intense, linear and massive. Like a movie’s soundtrack, totally serving an image, stirring emotions. The roots to Douran’s sound lay there.

There is also this notion of repetition, inherent to the musical style he practices. It reinforces the subtle shades that Douran mastered since he followed the path of musical creations. Self-taught, he already has handled different projects that were released by Dynamic Music, Einmusika and Chapter 24. This time, the producer will gear up the speed and he definetly won’t denigrate his sonorous values. In his music, there are traces of his influences : Rone, David August, Max Cooper, but also Max Richter or Olafur Arnalds.

Bringing together electronic and classical sounds, Douran has made it his credo : « This balance allows me to reach an apotheosis. The songs will not stop before they reach it. » A singularity that aims to indulge the listener into a need of introspection while listening, making his music a strong immersive experience.

When listening to Race To Infinity, one thing is certain : Douran’s future won’t go on without writing music for movies, a major inspiration for him. Neither without collaborations with classical instrumentalists, therefore, his tracks will take a whole new dimension for his live performance. It’s a logical progression, as are all of his compositions."

Ntogn is a techno project developed by Hypnus Records' founder Michel (b. 1988, Sweden) since early 2013. It aims to weave together modern sound design techniques with a fascination for dragons, shamanism and the occult. This has resulted in what Resident Advisor's William Lynch describes as "fierce, artistic techno that sounds like little else out there" and a discography ranging from hard repetitive deep techno to dark, throbbing ambient excursions.

As a DJ-performer, meticulous care is given to harmony and progression in order to create a comprehensive and captivating journey through melodic ambience to harsher hypnotic techno currents. Over the last few years, this has earned Ntogn the recognition not only as a respected label manager and eccentric producer, but also as an inspiring DJ appearing in several prominent clubs around the world such as Khidi (Tbilisi) and Elysia (Basel).

His most recent 12-inch record Sathurnus: I (2017) caught a notable 4/5 review on Resident Advisor and scattered projects over the previous years include a collaboration with fellow Hypnus adepts Luigi Tozzi and Feral, remix duty on Retina.IT's vinyl EP Octagon and a VA appearance alongside the Swedish techno phenomenon Shxcxchcxsh.

Hypnus Records 의 설립자 Michel (b. 1998, 스웨덴) 이 2013년 초부터 시작한 테크노 프로젝트, 이름하야 Ntogn. 이 프로젝트는 용, 샤머니즘, 주술에 대한 그의 열정을 바탕으로 현대적 사운드를 조합해내는 것에 초점을 두고 있다. Resident Advisor 의 William Lynch 가 그를 묘사한 글에 따르면 ​"어쩌면 이 세상 밖의 것으로 들리기까지 하는... 예술적이며 때로는 한없이 매서운 테크노.” 그리고 반복적이며 강한 사운드의 딥테크노부터 때로는 어두운 분위기로 심장을 요동치게 하는 앰비언트까지, 꾹꾹 담아낸 그의 디스코그라피에서 이 면모를 확인해볼 수 있으리라.

고운 선율로 시작해 거칠고 최면을 거는 듯한 음악으로. 이 흐름 속에서 디제이는 음악의 조화와 진화에 대한 섬세한 이해를 바탕으로 관객을 매료시킨다. 몇 년에 걸쳐 Ntogn 은 유능한 레이블 매니저, 개성 있는 프로듀서 였을 뿐 아니라, Khidi (Tbilisi), Elysia (Basel) 등 세계적으로 저명한 클럽에서 플레이하며 영향력 있는 DJ 로도 인정받고 있다.

Jongmin Lee [Oslated] : I think your music and Hypnus records albums are very oriental.
Are you interested in oriental philosophy?

Michel [Ntogn, Hypnus Records] : I used to read some books about oriental philosophy a few years ago.
Especially taoism but of course also quite a bit about hinduism, buddhism, zen, some Tibetan doctrines and other westernized interpretations of it all like Alan Watts and Eckhart Tolle.
Regarding oriental influences on Hypnus I think Feral and Primal Code has been somewhat inspired by Asian culture, nature and thinking.

Jongmin Lee [Oslated] : 당신의 음악과 Hypnus Records 의 앨범들에서 “동양적이다” 라는 느낌을 많이 받았다. 혹시 동양철학에 관심이 있는지 궁금하다.

Michel [Ntogn, Hypnus Records] : 몇 년전부터 동양철학에 관한 책들을 좀 읽곤 했다. 주로 도교 관련 서적들을 읽었는데, 힌두교, 불교, 선 (일본식 불교), 티벳 종교 그리고 서양적 해석이 가미된 Alan Watts 나 Eckhart Tolle 같은 것도 읽어 보았다.
Hypnus Records 가 동양적 성격을 띄는 부분은 Feral 과 Primal Code 가 동양 문화, 자연 및 사상에서 다소 영향을 받았다고 생각한다.

Our next guest, Kamikaze Space Programme, explores these so-called "errors" with an elegant diligence.
