Anxious

There’s a lot of amazing things aligning here with this premiere.  First off, it’s new material from Klaxons. This alone is momentous as they were essentially one of the first acts to really take off in blog culture almost 10 years ago and have even had trends based on them in the UK.  Basically, they broke the internet before there was such a thing.  Second, there are some serious names affiliated with this new material that’s supposed to be presented as a new album in the Spring.  The album appears to be steered in some part by Tom Rowlands (1/2 of the Chemical Brothers…HELLO) and the one and only James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records).  These facts alone have me geeked as they are two of my bigger influences in all of dance music.  Third, this premiere.  Word is Gorgon City produced the original and Claptone, who’s been on fire in the disco house realm for some time, took this to the deep house stratosphere.  So essentially this whole project seems crazy and I’m officially now on pins and needles waiting for more to drop.

     In a world wide society that focuses too much on our differences, we wanted to do something fun that brought people together through similarities. There was no set genre, no theme, and no pre-requisite to be well-known. ANY beatmaker ANYWHERE in the world (regardless of experience and with any length beard - from scratchy new growth to full and luxurious) was welcome to participate. Anyone could get on the album, they just needed a beat and a beard. 

     Lucky for us, we got some of our most favorite people from around the world. We cannot thank these bearded talents enough for lending their skills to our little project, especially when they grew their beards specifically for this. YOU ARE AMAZING, THANK YOU! Fresh from hitting their first festival of the summer at Valencia’s Festival de les Arts this weekend, The Wombats can now unveil enigmatic producer Claptone’s remix of ‘Be Your Shadow’. The original version of  ‘Be Your Shadow’ is set to impact on June 22nd and features on the band’s current album ‘Glitterbug’ which hit #5 in the UK and #2 in Australia. 

Claptone's remixes for the likes of Metronomy, Pet Shop Boys, Klaxons and Gregory Porter have all been chosen because he feels an affinity with the original artist. This is evident throughout Claptone’s imaginative reinventions as he relishes translating such songs for the dance floor.

His interpretation of ‘Be Your Shadow’ strips the song back to basics before progressively rebuilding the track towards a heightened crescendo of sound. Throughout, Claptone expertly weaves beats and atmospheric soundscapes around The Wombats’ frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy’s melodic vocal delivery. 

Claptone has worked hard to maintain his position as a consistently innovative global influencer. His big news for 2015 comes with his highly anticipated debut artist album, the campaign for which commenced when the track ‘The Music Got Me’ was picked as Pete Tong’s Miami Essential New Tune. ‘The Music Got Me’ and another new production ‘Dear Life’ subsequently stormed to the top of the Beatport charts. The album will be packed with vocal contributions from the likes of  Peter, Björn & John; Jimi Tenor; Nathan Nicholson (The Boxer Rebellion); Clap Your Hands Say Yeah; Young Galaxy; Jaw (from dOP); Jay-Jay Johanson and more. Claptone will then take his awe-inspiring 'Immortal Live' show to key festivals such as Melt! in Germany, Balaton Sound in Hungary and SW4 in London over the summer.

A golden scooped beak slowly emerges from the darkness. Claptone is bringing us ‘Charmer’, his first artist album.

In the last few years Claptone has become known for releasing big tracks primed for late nights and packed clubs all over the world. ‘Charmer’ however fuses his signature house sound with a more eclectic aesthetic, featuring guest appearances from Nathan Nicholson (The Boxer Rebellion), Jimi Tenor, Young Galaxy, Jay-Jay Johanson and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah amongst others.

He today shares introductory track ‘Puppet Theatre’ ft. Peter, Bjorn and John, a collaboration which offers a glimpse of the depth to be found when peeling back the layers of ‘Charmer’.

The album will drop following a packed summer touring schedule which reaches all corners of the globe and it follows the run-away success of Claptone's remix for Gregory Porter, a tune which dominates Ibiza this year and has been the biggest selling track on Beatport for months on end.


The album also features ‘Dear Life’ and ‘The Music Got Me’ as well the early singles ‘No Eyes’ and ‘Ghost’, both enormous smashes on essential Berlin house label Exploited.

Claptone will be holding album launch parties all over the planet in the coming months kicking off with a special showcase at W Amsterdam on the eve of release during Amsterdam Dance Event.
‘Charmer’ is set for release on 16/10/15 on Different Recordings (the label that launched the careers of Crystal Castles, Tiga, Crystal Fighters, Vitalic).
