During a romantic walk in the woods of twin peaks, a bewitching red light suddenly surrounds you. In the blink of an eye, everything but the light disappears. Your senses merge with each other as this red light turns into heat. Only you and the silence left... but you are fine. How would you feel if your own scream made you dance?..

We are really happy to give welcome to Psycho Weazel (@psycho-weazel). The Swiss duo that after releasing some works on Correspondant or Belly Dance Services, come to Rotten City (@rotten-city-records) to deliver two powerful original tracks inspired on Lynch’s universe, both with a deliberately club spirit.

The release is completed with a trippy & tribal version of "White Lodge" by Mexican guy Tyu (@theroommatesweb) and a narcotic slow motion re-interpretation of "Black Lodge" by the Greek masters of this kind of sounds, Stevie R & Parisinos.

Some artists are so uneasy with their craft that they need to create various aliases in order to express themselves in a more organized way. It’s like if they are pigeonholing their output in an attempt to make things easier to their fans/followers. GATS – also known as Changa Boys, ghostandthesong, Voltags, Solarbaby, Lagoon, and Gates – is one of those restless souls. Using the latter aforementioned nom de guerre, makes his debut on the mighty British label NEIN Records with an interesting journey through his Indie Dance/Dark Disco take. “All Gates Are Open”, expertly mastered by K-Effect (SXDNS062), presents itself through four creative originals and a robust remix by Cafius, the mastermind behind the track we were solicited to premiere.

While the original delivers a sort of frolic and upbeat aura, Cafius’s remix goes through a different path. For his interpretation, the Ukrainian producer aimed at the dance floor by increasing not only the BPM (from 113 to 122) but also the dosage of acid and minimalism. The result is an efficient and darkness-infused cut that has the potential to be in the case (aka repertoire) of DJs and selectors for quite some time during the 2023 season.

Quirky French duo O.N.O have been hard at work this year, making the most of the forced confinement by cooking up some of their most sophisticated work yet.
‘Don’t You Know Feat. Praa’ is a powerful, triumphant track that will lift the spirits. Bordering the lines between slinky nu disco and pumping house, it features sublime, breathy vocals from fellow Parisian newcomer, Praa. Her warm tones glide over a beautiful melange of off-beat disco bass, funked-up synth touches and moody atmospheric touches, all set to a snappy, tight beat. A heady breakdown and massive snare roll build-up kick the track into overdrive, and the mixture of ‘80s mood and driving modern day energy is a truly sumptuous mix.
‘In Spekzion’ rocks an Italo disco vibe in some style, convincingly recreating the muscular vibe of the era. A stuttering, whooping chopped-up vocal loop draws us in, a slowly phasing synth ‘n’ bass arpeggio cutting in sharply as the light beat and gated ‘80s snares explode into life. A swirling, muted synth snarls; another taps out an optimistic melody. Huge snare hits launch us out of the short breakdown, propelling us back towards that deliciously camp and retro vocal hook that recalls the days of primitive samplers with short sample times. The duo say that “the track was inspired by a host of anxiety-inducing information delivered in recent months, a total letting go of reality, a seizure of power over what surrounds us, a positive rebellion, a burst of oxygen.”
Together, these two tracks form a very necessary palette cleanser that will bring you energy and positivity right when you need them most.
