@tunnelvisions1 return to their home label @Atomnation for a fourth fantastic release in the last three years. This six track excursion builds on the pair's warm, richly melodic and always hypnotic style with fantastically colourful results.

Tunnelvisions is Emiel van den Dungen and Raynor de Groot. Both artists keep busy with their own solo projects (Milio and Coloray respectively) but continue to find fascinating middle ground when they come together in the studio. 2020 saw them step out on Moscoman's Disco Halal and Solomun's Diynamic, while they have also been remixed to great effect with influential DJs like Dixon and Tale Of Us playing the results. Now, though, they are back on Atomnation with another superb collection of cuts.

The undulating 'Acid Neverland' opens up with its succulent and supple drums overlaid with heavenly chords and glowing pads. Coloray's vocals are then layered in to bring some drive and attitude to this most compelling of tracks. 'King Cobra' is a dubby delight. Its airy hi hats, bulbous bass notes and tripped out melodic motifs all sinking you into a trance.

There is more angst and energy to the malfunctioning melodies and steel-plated drums of 'Mirrored Identities' while 'Waiting For The Morning' is a perfect dreamscape. It's a super widescreen track with deft pads coming in and out of focus, glistening melodies reflecting light and pulsing drums locking you in. 'Private XS' flips the vibe with more drawn out and sinewy synths gurgling and bubbling away as they ride up and down the scale like a slow motion cosmic explosion. Last but not least, 'End of Time' has the most pop hooks and catchy riffs of the lot. They dart about the mix as smeared pads and crunchy, punchy drums encourage you to cut loose.

This is another masterfully cohesive collection of colourful dance floor cuts that take in pop, techno and synth music and skew them the unique lens of Tunnelvisions.

Sandhog’s star continues to ascend with these two deep new rockets from the Swiss producer. The bouncing, twanging bass pulse of ‘Accent’ is soon built upon by dramatic ‘80s synth-pop blasts and a plucked riff that hammers away while drenched in a spacious reverb. Soon the full glorious melody unfurls, bassline and riff chromatically descending in unison. Subtle automation gives these spine-tingling riffs more power still, and a distorted, bleeping lead cuts through the soundscape dramatically while a spoken vocal adds more colour. A dark texture blasts in the breakdown, its buzzing, detuned vibe coming across like a ship tooting its way into harbour. Brilliantly produced, this track was made for big rooms.
‘Nechama’ rewards the patient listener, with its wiggling bassline and gently swaying percussive rhythms cut through with filtered, distant synth swells that tease out the chord progression. A bluesy harmonica lick appears out of nowhere, providing organic counterweight to the synthetic tension as the percussion builds. Next, a throat singer intones a mystical vibe with a droning modulation, like a human didgeridoo. Monotone yet constantly evolving, it’s a fascinating contrast to the delightful, playful synth hook that rises from the depths and could easily be from a classic Depeche Mode or The Cure record.

Next up for Maeve we welcome the very talented Italian duo, Underspreche to the label, delivering a 4 track EP including a remix from label founder The Drifter. 

Underspreche first caught our attention back in 2016 with the release of their mini album "Invito Alla Danza" on Optimo Trax, a record that possesses the captivating mixture of ethno vocals & sounds with a raw house dynamic. From there they continued to impress with their unique twist on many prominent House and Techno jams through their Experiments series. We are thrilled to have worked with them to bring you this EP and who better to describe the record than Underspreche themselves...

"We think every kind of art has an important role in our lives because of the magical power it has inside. Positive art can be profound, produce questions, show us new perspectives, transform feelings and connect people telepathically. If this is not magic??!! Taking inspiration from Alejandro Jodorowsky's work we did our own “music act” with this record, trying to ease our inner sorrow through musical poetry and freeing our voice. Inspiration from other cultures always help develop our work which as ever, is fuelled by a deep love for what we do."

Ferrari - Jungle Boogie EP

Earlier this year we were happy to release Ferrari’s first ever track on AEON; a crafty remix of Alex Niggemann’s ‘Rise of the Machines’. Towards the end of November, the Italian producer’s ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP will brighten up the darker months of the year. Ferrari wrote the record during Italy’s strict lockdown evenings and first days of easing the restrictive measures, which created a sound of both frenzy and relieve.
The record’s title track creates expectations, which it meets, but not in the exact way you expected it. ‘Jungle Boogie’ starts with native percussion rhythms, but swiftly evolves into a fever dream with altered bird sounds that create an extraterrestrial impression. While female vocals are trying to get to you, you get lost more and more in the acid jungle Ferrari created. While the animals celebrate the temporary absence of mankind. 
‘Trancektor’ immediately spirals down towards even deeper parts of your unconscious. This time, however, the world you find yourself in feels more like an 80s arcade game. Circling, Italo disco-inspired synths swirl around you as the spatial sounding beat runs on.
The third track on the EP, ‘Tellurico’, is an uplifting tune with forceful keys that push you forward. The choir hypnotises this song’s listeners all the way to the end. 
The closing track of the ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP brings you into calmer waters, allowing you to recover a bit from your little journey. However, ‘Freakin’’ intensifies as it goes forward elevating you one last time.
AEON invited Whitesquare - well known from his releases on Dj Tennis infamous „Life & Death“ - to rework ‘Jungle Boogie’s title track. He silenced the birds, but the trippiness of the track stays, while some new tropical animals enter the stage.
This storytelling EP of five tracks shows some excellent curatorship of the Berlin-based label.
