Dutch duo T.U.R.F. bring the heat to Exploited again after contributing the super-hot ‘Sneaky Ways’ last year. Their knack for a tasty groove is very much intact, with two surefire disco house slammers on this release.

‘Good Times Roll’ builds a foundation of chunky beats around some sweet jazz-funk vibes, with dashes of sax and clavinet interpersing the piledriver bassline. Jaunty pianos loop tensely and quickfire white noise builds and cymbal echoes keep things energetic. When it comes to high energy, organically-textured house music, these guys really know what they’re doing. 

‘Street Talkin’ is a deep and jacking groove built around small disco loops that filter in and out of the foreground, with super-skippy beats cutting against the deep textures of the melodic elements. Looped vocals and infectious fills and to the groove’s bumping feel, and a soulful breakdown blasts into an extra-funked-up section full of incessant horn and electric piano flavour. 

With other contributions on Tensnake’s True Romance label and Till Von Sein’s Tilly Jam, T.U.R.F. are rapidly carving out a name for themselves as ones to watch. Don’t sleep on these bombs...

The album Stratos Bleu seemed like a bit of a risk when Smoove & Turrell presented it to their label. Though long lauded as one of the UK’s top bands in funk and soul circles, the album was a decidedly rawer analogue affair drawing on influences as diverse as 
Detroit techno, Bristol bass as well as the party starting breakbeat funk they are so well known for. 

#1 position in the Official UK Dance Charts on release week and the Album of the Day accolade from BBC 6 Music proved the band were entirely right and now, the crew of larger than life North East musicians are back for more with a slew of fantastic remixes from some top tier talent. 

So far luminaries including Hot Toddy, Ray Mang, Ashley Beedle and Steve Cobby as well as hot rising talent Sorley have remixed the album. 

Next up is the turn of Dutch electronic powerhouses Fouk and new UK act Rayka.

Fouk (Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman of Junktion fame) have been on fire since joining forces with releases on Heist,  Boogie Angst, Razon N Tape as well as their own Out-play Records. Their driving melodic take on classic house has swiftly seen them rise the ranks of the best producers in the world. Their remix on Fade Away turns it into an ab-solute dancefloor melter.

Rayka is a new production duo from the NE of England with their heads firmly in the 
future of music production but an undeniable respect for the analogue savagery of orig-inal acid house. The pair asked to remix hometown heroes Smoove & Turrell and when supplied with the parts turned in two bass bin blowing, low frequency overload mixes of E.P. and This Time. 

‘Smoove & Turrell – Stratos Bleu Remixes will be available 25.09.20 via Jalapeno Records on digital formats from all good stores.
